my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary party is coming up on sunday....we spent alot on the place that we are having it at but failed to hire a DJ(the one we had backed out) so, therefore, plan B is to have me, stickyfingers, create cd's that we can just let play in a cd player

I need some advice on music that would be appropriate for this type of event.....stuff like 'when a man loves a woman' but i need like 4 hours worth of stuff so please help me

blingo! thats what you have to do. so back in the year 1953 you have to find the biggest hits. and just remember most of the copy rights on songs from them have run out, so you don't have to worry about illegally downloading the songs

When it comes to being less funny, disliked and barely in the business, you certainly are the person we all turn to for your well informed opinion.

By the way half the stuff yohave posted has been so far from the truth in the past it isn't even funny.

In Your Eyes lyrics
love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don't like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes

"The very thought of you" done by Elvis Costello.

We just got married last month =).

We were looking for a song, and we are both huge EC fans. Problem was we couldn't find a suitable EC song that wasn't a bit cheesy (She) or somewhat overused (Funny Valentine).

Believe it or not, we got the idea from Wonderboy's list of top Romantic songs he prepared for R&F. zing!

Van is always a good choice, my cousin just used &quot;Crazy Love&quot;.....Kristen wants to use Elvis Costello's &quot; She&quot; which is a great song but I don't feel like it has any significant meaning for us.&nbsp; I told her she can use that when she dances with her pops.

<p>The wife and I couldn't really agree on ONE song.&nbsp; We talked about it quite a bit though.</p><p>&quot;You're My Home&quot; by Billy Joel was probably the front runner.</p><p>We were SUPPOSED to get married on September 13th 2001.&nbsp; When the WTC collapsed (with our wedding rings, our pastor, AND our jeweler still inside!) we postponed the whole thing.&nbsp; Having her family fly in from Eastern Canada was not an option.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>On Sept 24th, we flew to Vegas and got married in that little place where Ross and Rachel got married.&nbsp; A Karoake version of &quot; You&quot;re My Home&quot; was playing in the chapel.&nbsp; So...I guess that song was meant to be ours.</p>

<p>Me and the chick were in a bar in Brooklyn Friday night that has a very obscure jukebox.&nbsp; On there they had an album which I loved in my high school days which I had completely forgot about.&nbsp; The name of the band is Big Star, the lead singer is a guy named Alex Chilton, you may know him for being the lead singer of The Box Tops who had the&nbsp;'60's hit &quot; My Baby Wrote me&nbsp;a Letter&quot;&nbsp; or &quot; The Letter&quot;, whatever.&nbsp; </p><p>Any way, after he left them he started Big Star and did a song called &quot;Thirteen&quot; about a Junior High Romance,&nbsp;which I used to love.&nbsp; I played it the other night and instantly got chills, you know the kind you get when you hear a song that strikes a sentimental cord.&nbsp; We met around that age and I am pushing for that song now, she doesn't know it that well so I am going out to get the album today.&nbsp; </p><p>&quot;Thirteen&quot;</p><p><font size="-1">Won't you let me walk you home from school</font> <br /><font size="-1">Won't you let me meet you at the pool</font> <br /><font size="-1">Maybe Friday I can</font> <br /><font size="-1">Get tickets for the dance</font> <br /><font size="-1">And I'll take you</font> </p><p><font size="-1">Won't you tell your dad, &quot;Get off my back&quot;</font> <br /><font size="-1">Tell him what we said 'bout 'Paint It Black'</font> <br /><font size="-1">Rock 'n Roll is here to stay</font> <br /><font size="-1">Come inside where it's okay</font> <br /><font size="-1">And I'll shake you.</font> </p><p><font size="-1">Won't you tell me what you're thinking of</font> <br /><font size="-1">Would you be an outlaw for my love</font> <br /><font size="-1">If it's so, well,&nbsp; let me know</font> <br /><font size="-1">If it's &quot;no&quot;, well, I can go</font> <br /><font size="-1">I won't make you</font> <br /></p>

<p>I met my wife on a blind date (yeah, I know) in 1989 in high school. We went to a dance that had a group called The Great Train Robbery&nbsp;playing. The band had one slow song: &quot;Hold me down&quot; I vividly remember trying not to stab her in the belly with my junk while we danced. </p><p>Twelve years later I tracked down the horn player, got a copy of the Band's album, had it burned to disk and surprised her with it on our wedding night for our first dance as a married couple-&nbsp;just seemed appropriate. </p>

<p>My bride and I are sorting through various pieces of music we want to use at the reception and the ceremony.&nbsp; The problem is, the two songs we've picked for the processional and recessional are full orchestral pieces that will sound absolutely amazing with the acoustics of the chapel, but a few people have turned up their noses at the idea of us using canned music at the show.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Here are the problems we are dealing with:</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The processional is a very, very new song that was composed within the last two years, but finding sheet music has been nearly impossible.&nbsp; I even emailed the composer, with no response.&nbsp; Also, it's hard to find a bagpiper and a flutist who will perform music they are unfamiliar with.&nbsp; The processional also has a vocal in Gaelic that really makes the song work.<br /></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The recessional, although is a very familiar song, needs a horn section to make it sing, and that can be expensive.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Both Liz and I do not want Pachebel's Canon, Here Comes the Bride, or Amazing Grace played at the wedding.&nbsp; We take great pride in our musical tastes, and we are absolutely adamant that we don't want traditional and/or cliched music at our ceremony.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>So, it's out there - what's your opinion?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>As an FYI, the church isn't someone's parish.</p><p>It's actually one of my college chapels, and was built in 1925 for college assemblies, but not with any religious overtones.</p><p>The only rules regarding music involve who's allowed to play the Chapel's organ . . . only one of two pre-approved organists are permitted to play the instrument, as it's one of the most valuable parts of the building.</p><p>The acoustics are fantastic and, as Matty said, there's a &quot;built-in&quot; sound system.</p><p>Effectively, the building was designed as a lecture/performance space. While there are a few quirks to the best spots for something to be acoustically pleasing, the space is ideal for this sort of eclectic arrangement.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>And, at the risk of repeating myself, there will be NO MOTHERFUCKING 'CANON IN D' played at our wedding.<br /> </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It stinks and I don't like it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I happen to love &quot;Canon in D&quot; - but that's besides the point.&nbsp; </p><p>I've been asked by a close friend to play the wedding march on acoustic guitar at their wedding in May. &nbsp; They don't want anything too &quot;traditional&quot; either so they figured they'd get me to come up with some funky fingerpicking version.&nbsp; I'm working on it as we speak.&nbsp; </p><p>I guess this way they get the best of both worlds - the wedding march is being played to appease their parents and grandparents, but it'll be modern enough so as not to sound trite. &nbsp;</p>

good then go for it.&nbsp; I have been to weddings where some of the
music was recorded.&nbsp; </p><p>On the other hand, I have been the
music for many weddings as well.&nbsp; My good friend who is getting
married on 12/1 has 8 of us performing various songs during the
ceremony.&nbsp; It feels odd to sing popular music at a wedding, but

<p>Here's what I did at my wedding </p><p>We had a band, we picked all the songs you have to do, the first dance, mother son, father daughter songs. We did away with the corny songs you hear at every wedding, I asked the the band play mostly 60/70's soul and funk music that pretty much made everyone happy and I come from a family of Micks that allways want to hear Danny Boy and the Rose of Trelee I dont know if that helps but I had fun at my wedding and did a lot of dancing</p>

Hey guys, I need help getting together some good songs for my upcoming wedding reception. I think this might have been a topic of conversation on the show before, but I'm not sure. I didn't know where to get ideas, so I turned to the hippest crowd I know of, Ron and Fez fans. I'm thinking of songs along the lines of older soul or R&B, but I'll take anything at this point.

Thanks!

Edit:
OOPS! I guess I could've done my homework and looked for a thread before posting. Pardon my ignorance.

Hello, Badorties... I hope you're still around and monitoring this website. I located you in a desperate search for the song "First Light of Day" by Paddy A Go-go. We desperately want it for our own wedding entrance! It's proving extremely difficult to find. Can you help in any way? Thanks a million.

Dearest Oracle,

First time, Long time

I'm sitting here in beautiful Astoria, NY (I know...thank you) putting together the music for my wedding and I am running into bit of a creative wall.

Sure we all know the staples of a wedding but what are some not so common but must have's of wedding music?

Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Oh, and I've already got "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band on the list.

I'll hang up and listen to your reply.

Your friend,

Led

A friend of mine danced with his wife to the Acoustic version of "Big Me" by Foo Fighters. It was a cool song choice I thought.
