So it's that time of the year again and I got suckered in by the local girl scout to buy some cookies. I ended up getting:

2 boxes of Peanut Butter Patties
1 box of Thin Mints
1 box of Cinna-Spins

What did you get?

I look forward to ThinMints, but they sold out quick. I ended up getting Cinna-Spins and they are awful.

Take your cookies and go packing, hon.

I get the Pecan Sandies from Shop Rite for $.99!

I would rather bury my nose in a homeless man's asshole than eat a Samoa. You people are vile.

But what bothers me more is the way I am approached. I step out of Wawa and there is a group of young, eager faced young girls who are genuinely excited and having fun, and I can't help but buy a couple boxes. And it seems like it makes their day.

The next day I come out of store and behind a table full of cookies are two surly, brooding 13 or 14 year olds who could barely tear themselves away from cracking their gum and talking on their cell phone to mumble to me "Wannabuysomecookies?"

I walked on, because a) I didn't have any cash and b) I could barely hear her, so if she doesn't care, I don't care.

As I'm walking away, she very loudly and very sarcastically yells.. "THANK YOU!!!"

So now my question is...is it wrong to punch a girl scout?

Whatchoo need? Whatchoo need!

I've got a basement full of them. We are the "Cookie Family" for my daughter's Brownie Pack. Other families submit their order forms to us and we get them their cookies.

I can understand the hard-sell though. This is the first year that my daughter's been doing this and compared to my son's Boyscout popcorn sale the prize levels are crazy. She would have to sell something like 75 boxes to reach the lowest prize level which is a fucking pencil sharpener! She'd have to sell into the thousands to get anything good. I told to just ask our friends and family. Between them and us she sold 25 boxes. I told her I'd get her a pencil sharpener next time we're at the $1 Store.

Do-Si-Do's are the peanut butter sammich cookies.

I don't like those. They're disappointing.

Tag-A-Longs are the ones that are analogous to a peanut-butter Thin Mint.

Tag-A-Longs are my second favorites. When I was a kid, I liked to scrape out the peanut butter with my teeth before I ate the rest of the cookie.

Samoas are the best. Even when they stopped calling them "Samoas" and went with "Caramel Delights" a few years ago.

I keep those in the freezer with my Thin Mints. (Yum! It's harder for me to eat half the box that way.)

And I am old-school: order directly from the Girl Scouts with an order sheet and everything. Right now, I'm waiting for mine to be delivered.

switch the names of these two and that's how i feel about them. (i had recently ordered them, due to the love of the peanut butter) and was way disappointed with the tag-alongs. the do-si-dos are my number two behind the samoas.

In the latter instance, it is abso-fucking-lutely not wrong to punch a Girl Scout.

And this is coming from someone who is a 3rd generation Girl Scout.

Behavior like those Scouts you saw in the 2nd place reflects badly on both the Council and Scouting in general.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd report it to the Council. They're usually really anal about stuff like that.

See, if shortbread didn't taste so buttery, Trefoils would definitely be my favorites.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy them, but when given a choice to pre-order several boxes of my favorites...Thin Mints, Tag-A-Longs and Samoas win every time.

I have loved these flavors since I was a kid.

And someone mentioned that the love it/hate it of the Samoas hinges on liking or hating coconut...I disagree. I freaking HATE coconut in anything else. But I could eat those Samoas until I puked, I love them so much. I think it's the caramel that does it for me.

I was hungry when I was attacked by my neighbors' kids with order forms. 4 boxes of the Thank You cookies ((whatever the fuck their called)). 4 of Thin Mints, 4 of the peanut butter ones.

No, not exactly.

there are apparently 2 companies that make/distribute the cookies and they have different names for a few (some may have been different in the past and merged back together...i am no cookie historian).

There are two bakers that are officially licensed by Girl Scouts of the USA to bake their cookies.

The bakers are ABC/Interbake Foods, Inc. (http://www.abcsmartcookies.com/) and Little Brownie Bakers (http://www.littlebrowniebakers.com/).

If your local Girl Scout Council gets their cookies from ABC/Interbake, you will have the option of getting Caramel deLites, CinnaSpins, Lemonades, "Peanut Butter Patties," "Peanut Butter Sandwich" and Lemonades. They also don't call Trefoils "Trefoils" ... they call them "Shortbread." (Which is what they are, but, these are supposed to have funny names!!!)

Basically, the Caramel deLites are pretty much the same as Samoas (from Little Brownie Bakers) except for the fact that the deLites are slightly hexagonal and the Samoas are completely round.

It varies from Council to Council ... when I was a Scout selling cookies (Lenni Lenape Council of New Jersey), we always sold the ones from Little Brownie Bakers. However, once I moved to New Brunswick, the girls in the Raritan Valley Council sold the ones by ABC/Interbake, so I had to pay attention to the descriptions to get the cookies I wanted. (BOO!)

Frozen Thin Mints = More Gooder

Besides making them taste yummy, I also keep them in the freezer so I don't wolf them down in a single sitting. So far, of the box of Tag-A-Longs and Samoas I've already stashed there, I have had 4 Tag-A-Longs, but I think Matt had 5 or 6, which, all things considered, isn't too bad. (But he still had more Tag-A-Long cookies than I did and I'm the one who paid for them!)

We still have unopened boxes of Thin Mints and Samoas.

Oh and 1 box each of Tag-A-Longs & Samoas plus 2 boxes of Thin Mints are on their way from my friend from Long Island. (I sent my check out to her today.)
