This thread is probably a very corny idea (so is the titular pun) but a bunch of songs have really "struck a chord" with me as far as their message goes. Songs like----

Dust in the Wind - Kansas - "All we are is dust in the wind" "just a drop of water in an endless sea"

Hakuna Matata - Timon & Pumbaa - "it means no worries for the rest of your days"

honorary mention goes to ronny b "cousin" chester bennington's band Linkin Park with "in the end" (it doesn't even matter)

can anyone relate? :help:

Got to love any song by Aimee Mann (and yes, I'm a dude), but if I had to choose it would be from her song, "The Moth"

"And nothing fuels a good flirtation,
Like Need and Anger and Desperation.."

your examples scare me, but i'll add a song by the Two Gallants called My Madonna....it's got this screaming part that does something to me.

The Stone Roses, I wanna be adored...good times.

And Tori Amos covering Smells like teen spirit

Im new - hope you dont mind me chiming in!

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
-------------------------

Who hasnt been there at the end of a relationship?

and I love this:

Ryan Adams - Come Pick Me Up

I wish you would
Come pick me up
Take me out
Fuck me up
Steal my records
Screw all my friends
Theyre all full of shit
With a smile on your face
And then do it again

"Under Pressure" by Queen & Bowie.
Even all these years later, it still gets a reaction from me. It's a very moving song.

For my money... it just doesn't get any better than that.

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
Warren Zevon

So much to do, there's plenty on the farm
I'll sleep when I'm dead
Saturday night I like to raise a little harm
I'll sleep when I'm dead

I'm drinking heartbreak motor oil and Bombay gin
I'll sleep when I'm dead
Straight from the bottle, twisted again
I'll sleep when I'm dead

Well, I take this medicine as prescribed
I'll sleep when I'm dead
It don't matter if I get a little tired
I'll sleep when I'm dead

I've got a .38 special up on the shelf
I'll sleep when I'm dead
If I start acting stupid
I'll shoot myself
I'll sleep when I'm dead

So much to do, there's plenty on the farm
I'll sleep when I'm dead
Saturday night I like to raise a little harm
I'll sleep when I'm dead

RIP Warren

Best Imitation Of Myself
Ben Folds

I feel like a quote out of context
Withholding the rest
So I can be for you what you want to see

I got the gesture and sound
Got the timing down
It's uncanny, yeah, you think it was me

Do you think I should take a class
To lose my southern accent

Did I make me up, or make the face till it stuck
I do the best imitation of myself

The "problem with you" speech
You gave me was fine
I liked the theories about my little stage

And I swore I was listening
But I started drifting
Around the part about me acting my age

Now if it's all the same
I've people to entertain
I juggle one handed
Do some magic tricks and
The best imitation of myself

Maybe I'm thinking myself in a hole
Wondering, who I am when I ought to know
Straighten up now time to go
Fool somebody else, fool somebody else

Last night I was east with them
And west within
Trying to be for you what you wanna see

But I can't help it with you
The good and bad comes through
Don't want you hanging out with no one but me

Now if it's all the same
It comes from the same place
And if my mind's somewhere else
You won't be able to tell
I do the best imitation of myself

Yes it's uncanny to see
You'd really think it was me
The best imitation of myself
The best imitation of myself

my fave

Invisible Ink
Aimee Mann

There comes a time when you swim or sink
So I jumped in the drink
Cuz I couldn't make myself clear

Maybe I wrote in invisible ink
Oh I've tried to think
How I could have made it appear

But another illustration is wasted
Cuz the results are the same
I feel like a ghost who's trying to move your hands
over some ouija board in the hopes I can spell out my name

What some take for magic at first glance
Is just sleight of hand depending on what you believe
Something gets lost when you translate
It's hard to keep straight
Perspective is everything

And I know now which is which and what angle I oughta look at it from
I suppose I should be happy to be misread-
Better be that than some of the other things I have become

But nobody wants to hear this tale
The plot is clichéd, the jokes are stale
And baby we've all heard it all before
Oh I could get specific but
Nobody needs a catalog
With details of love I can't sell anymore

And aside from that, this chain of reaction,
baby, is losing a link
Though I'd hope you'd know what I tried to tell you
And if you don't I could draw you a picture in invisible ink

But nobody wants to hear this tale
The plot is clichéd, the jokes are stale
And baby we've all heard it all before
Oh I could get specific but
Nobody needs a catalog
With details of love I can't sell anymore

Queen has always had this affect on me: Who Wants to Live Forever, You're my Best Friend... Princes of the Universe (theme song from Highlander), I Want to Break Free, Don't Stop Me...I could go on, but those are my top favorites

It's funny that I saw this thread today. Yesterday my son, who is in Middle School, told us about a project that he had to do about himself and one of the things was that he had to find a song that most represented him. Keep in mind, my son is a good kid, but has never been the most popular kid in school. Always stands up for what he thinks is right and doesn't take crap from any of the bullies that are twice his size. The choice was obvious:

Won't Back Down - Tom Petty

Best Imitation Of Myself
Ben Folds

I have so many songs that strike a chord with me. But this one's a great one. Personally, I LOVE the version from the Ben Folds Live album, with just Ben and the piano. I like that one better than the original album version.

Uh.. remember that song by The Beatles? And, um, that album Abbey Road, and at the very end of the song, it would.. the song goes, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"? You.. you remember that?

Uh..You think that is true?

Oh, and as tribute to SatCam's name, the Comsat Angels' "It's History" has surgically struck at the heart of more than a couple relationships that a "friend" of mine has gone through.

You say you can't forget

All those silly things that I did

Well OK, but you know it's so long ago

It's history, it's history

There's no future in a memory

Stop holding on so stubbornly

Just let it go, it's history

I've lost count of the number

Of times I have apologised to you

Yet you say it's not enough

But what more can I do

It's history, it's history

There's no future in a memory

Stop holding on so stubbornly

Just let it go, it's history

The papers read that the king is dead
The people said what we need instead
Is to be on our own...

But people, they do the strangest things
You never know what they might do
When they are left alone...

There's men without gods and gods without men
And a spirit of which none of them can transcend
But something peculiar is happening
We should just be happy with just what we've got
And the problems should be too few to mention
But they're not

Where can I go for some information?
So tired of the big sensation
I need to know what's going on

Oh well you're the well-informed
Into your world which I was born
My friend, here's to you

How would I know if there was something wrong
When the weak of heart out-survive the strong

The truth is almost always confidential
You never know just what you've got until it's gone
And your friends have never seemed so essential
When you're wrong

Remarkably incredible, incredibly forgettable
I know this might sound strange, don't ever change

Amazingly unfaceable, entirely replaceable
There's nothing I would rearrange, don't ever change

Out of luck, out of space, out of time, out of place
Don't try to save face my friend

There was a time and there was a place
For your face and for your race but it's been swept away :drunk:

It's The Sun by The Polyphonic Spree (the most fucking amazing show I have EVER seen!!)

Sun
Take some time, get away
Sun
Suicide is a shame
Sun
Soon, you'll find your own way
Sun
Hope has come, you are safe
And it makes me cry
Because I'm on my way
On my way
On my way
Hey, it's the sun, and it makes me shine
Hey, it's the sun, and it makes me shine
Hey, it's the sun, and it makes me shine
Hey, now, it's the sun, and it makes me shine

Sun
Soon, you'll be okay
Sun
Soon, you'll be okay
And it makes me smile
Because I'm on my way

Hey, it's the sun, and it makes me shine
Hey, it's the sun, and it makes me shine
Hey, it's the sun, and it makes me shine
Hey, now, it's the sun, and it makes me smile
All around
Hey, now, it's the sun, and it makes me smile
All around, all around

Ba dada ba ba...

Hey, now it's the sun, and it makes me smile
All around
Hey, now it's the sun, and it makes me smile
All around, all around

Ba dada ba ba...
