I'm sure I'll get ragged on a little. Sure they are interesting in small doses. But is it just me or do alot of these guys/girls seem to overstay their welcome in studio or on the phone.? I'm not going to point any of them out but the only twp/three I ever seem to enjoy is Private Pyle/Kane and CrazyJen.
But maybe i'm crazy/jealous/e-jealous of them getting to hang with the guys i listen to each day.

Ron and Fez have always been amazingly cool to their friends and fans. It's part of their charm. It's part of the interaction between show and fan that sets them apart from other shows. I am not entertained by everybody they give airtime either, but more often than not it's just part of the show.
It's the drama that is lame, and I think you're associating local people with drama. It's not always the case, its just that most of the drama comes from local people, but not EVERY local person causes it.
I don't think there's an absolute answer for you bro. Just stick it out until they move on or check some music for 10 minutes and come back. Giving back to the fans is what Ron and Fez do.

It's probably just unintentional jealousy. I've seen a hundred times before from people who call in or post here. Locals may overstay a listener's welcome, but they don't overstay the welcome of the show. I've heard Ron cut off the old/local fans many times, when he has decided they aren't contributing anymore.
BTW.. I'm not faulting you for jealousy. It's natural.

Well its never so bad to the point where I change the channel. And I'm not taking a shot at Fred from Brooklyn, but after they're in studio after a while they get chatty and step all over the buddays and then no one can even get a sentence out.

Exactly. I only call in every few months and Ron hangs up on me when I've said my piece. And I know it's time they move on. I take zero offense to it, I probably was getting long winded or I'm just chuckling on the line as they react to what I said or the general discussion.
They give back but they will move on when they're getting nothing out of a guest/caller no matter how old skool they are.

fred is uninteresting and has somehow let appearing on a radio show go to his head, how is that possible? him and mikey d give me the creeps.

The local angle IS the Ron and Fez show. It may take non local people like myself longer to get into the show, but once we get it, we feel we are part of the gang. There is no other product out there similar to Ron and Fez. I can't wait to actually meet some of these people someday. Everyone is almost like a reality show star, but actually being themselves and real people. I find myself taking sides in every dispute.

I'm a few years in, and from the west coast. Some of the provincial stuff I don't get.. Like what streets are bad, and which part of Jersey stinks the worst.
Keep in mind, it's just like watching wrestling. Eventually you get most of the bit's and you don't feel like its a provincial thing. The friend characters are all part of the show. It takes a loong time to learn where all the references and drops came from, but it's all part of it. Just like old school WWF you had to watch a while to get it.
Secondly, the East Coast callers are the best. If you listen to the comedy pyramids from the old days, the callers are pretty much pure gold. Nowadays I have to agree, the hayseeds make the pyramid impossible. I guess I point this out because I think Ron has to go to East coast friends on the phone to keep the gold coming in. This is another reason why it feels provincial but there is no way around it..
All that crap said, I hear your frustration. I have found it very hard to get any heat going anywhere relating to the show.. I've called in, Joined pal-talk, I've done hundreds of photoshops, sigs, graphics for boards, thousands of posts and have gotten only 5 pm's in two years from anyone... and one was a warning from EliSnow that my sig was too big...:innocent:
Trying to be decently hip and be off the east coast at the same time is definately playing internet in /hard mode.

What was his last call all about? Was the crazy thing not just a bit? I assumed it was a bit like some of the other stuff you hear.
And for the record, I'm from Canada and I dont feel left out. a few months listening and a few keys posts and replies from the good folks here at RF net and your all set.
But yes, Fred from brooklyn is dull.

I am far from NYC but I love the local part of the show and miss the Free FM show a shit load. Sure the subject of certain listeners is completely boring to me but you got to take the bad with the good...you are either for it completely or against it...you cant pick and choose.
Talking about their listeners has always been a part of the show. USUALLY the people that do not like it are the ones that are mad it isnt them being talked about.

I don't mind when they call in at all. I just don't care for the message board chatter so much. But almost all of the local callers always have great shit for the show, and it's appreciated. I didn't really dig the Pvt. Pyle calls. Not so much the insanity or the split personality gimmick he had, his voice just bothered me.

What was his last call all about? Was the crazy thing not just a bit? I assumed it was a bit like some of the other stuff you hear.
Several people who met him in person have attested to the fact that he was truly crazy. As for the call... Back when he was calling in about wanting to come to NYC to visit the show, he mentioned that he had a new voice that had been talking to him. The new voice was the guy who shot up Virginia Tech. Ron immediately realized that Pyle definitely needed some serious help. I think they moved the call to "off air" to talk to him about getting more help, and the rest is "behind the curtain" stuff.
I hope all of this isn't "forbidden", but I said nothing that wasn't said on air.

I love hearing the local callers and I like the NYC angle to the show even though I live on the other coast and in Canada. I actually really enjoyed listening to the FreeFM show last year over the net and it was almost purely a local show, the content and the callers both.
And it makes me want to visit New York City.

Yeah, whether he was doing a bit or was truly crazy, his timing was way off cuz if I remember right it was not long after the VT incident.
Big, Big no no and I think Ron cut ties quickly. Good move on his part.
I have always liked the local angle (especially when they were on WNEW but broadcast here in DC) - the R&F Show is about Ron and Fez, and their lives are where they live. It's a national show when it needs to be because they also live in the United States and can bring in more than one perspective, but it's always been fun to see and meet the people in their neighborhood.
What DC lacked in consistant, creative callers they made up for with visitors and regulars - which did keep expanding as more people discovered them - and was helped by old timers who stayed in the loop, like Perry, Mikey D., Earl, Billy, Stalker Patty and Mikeyboy. It was a very strong (and loyal) group, including Kathleen & BriBri, Jen, Bobo, Elfish, Mizzle, Cherry, Lazlo, Yerdaddy/Bonedaddy, Cigar Sid, the Real Jen, Skellington, the Loose Bowels, Don and maybe the most subversive regular of all time - Fred.
http://www.io.com/~maddog/hampix/barber/barber_ur_next_gray.gif
(btw - maybe it was just me, but I never felt comfortable claiming Pvt. Pyle, as he was more of a Hideout regular who expanded his need for attention by coming on R&F - and while I liked them a lot, the same with UFO Phil & Nicotina (more Hideout) - on the flip side, "Lewtard" gave some great, great calls in R&F for awhile there).
The only time I have remotely been bugged - whether if it is a guest, a "friend" of the show or a staff person - is if there is a sense of entitlement to their relationship with R&F and the show. Holds true today.

I think Moe hit a very salient point: I don't mind the local callers, but the DRAMA from 'friends of the show' is getting REALLY old.
Hell, there is enough drama on the show without having to pull in crap from the boards, friends, etc. Between Fez, Dave, Earl, and the rest, the show is already drowning in drama. There isn't a "need" to pull in more.

I miss Dan from Hoboken (it was Dan, right)?
His instant feedbacks during the 'NEW days were almost always gold.
I always listen to the show in my own city. In fact, I occasionally call in from my hometown too. I hate people who call in from anywhere outside their hometowns. Fucking truckers.

The reason I listen from here in Vegas is to hear the two things that I can't hear locally:
1. Good radio
2. Interesting people
When I don't understand something, I listen closer and/or post a question. Let it roll, baby, roll...

A: Comedy Pyramids
B; Oscar blurbs
these 2 things would make it easier for Fez to interact and makes some funny one liners and jokes. and would make him less stressed out
in conclusion, you non local callers are the cause of Fez's problems

it is very cool that ron and fez want to make the fans a part of the show. though it sucks when those fans want to hijack the show and think that THEY deserve to be on the show or that they ARE the show. mafia life chris, fred from brooklyn(who i loved as a caller, hate as a "personality") and zman are probably the worst. there have been some other ones in the past (perrynoid, crazy jen, bobo), but none of them killed a show like the first three i mentioned.
