sure, it was about hunting. al was saying that it was wrong to hunt, and i said that it was more humane to hunt b/c more deer would die by being hit by a car,ect than would be by hunting.

Good job, Nellie! I was wondering if that was you when they said your name. If I'm not mistaken, you took the position that hunting deer is far more humane than leaving them to starve or be run over by cars...a position I agree with, by the way.

Absolutely humane.why are
there so many deer that
they're starving themselves?
Our fault. You could ague a
moral obligation to control
deer populations SOMEHOW.

it is partially the fault of we humans that the deer population has gotten out of controll. we are building our houses where they used to live. they are forced to search fo food then, often by crossing roads, and because there is a population increase of deer, there is not enough food during the harsh winter months to feed all of the deer.

I didn't hear your call, but I agree with your position...why let a deer die when it could feed a family? Sounds simple enough to me...

But why do I suddenly have the urge to hear "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" now? :)

It's not funny, my ass is on fire...

I almost drove off the road and into a family of deer when I heard them play a Wally Pleasant tune. I've been a fan of that guy for years, but didn't think anyone had ever heard of him. I wonder if they have all his stuff or somehow just dug up that song?

Oh, and for Wally think Stephen Lynch, but a little bit less X-rated.

Nellie, the reality is that overpopulation is beneficial to the hunting industry as a tool for putting forth their propoganda. It allows them to tout hunting as a viable and necessary means of population control. IF HUNTERS WERE TRULY CONCERNED ABOUT A PROBLEM, THE SIMPLEST SOLUTION IS NOT TO CREATE THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. State wildlife agencies manipulate habitat by burning and clear-cutting forests to increase the food supply for "game" species. More food means a larger herd and more deer available as targets for hunters. Hunting programs also cause wildlife overpopulation by stimulating breeding by conducting "buck only" hunts, which leave as many as six does per buck. Hunting is not the cure but the cause of overpopulation and starvation. It has long been proposed to state wildlife agencies that if they are serious about using hunting as a popilation control tool in areas where the sex ratio is already badly distorted, they should institute a doe season (taking no bucks but only does until the ratio is again stabilized at 50:50). Every agency rejected that proposal. Completely giving up any pretense of ecologically motivated sound wildlife management. Let's face it, hunters either shoot animals at random, or they seek out the strongest and healthiest animals in order to bring home the biggest trophies or the largest antlers(in other words, most often bucks). The New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife in particular, stated "the deer resource has been managed primarily for the purpose of sport hunting" (New Jersey Dept. of Fish, gane and Wildlife, An Assessment of Deer Hunting in New Jersey, 1990). The argument that without hunters, animals would overpopulate their habitats is ludicrous. It begs the question: What did all these animals do before hunters kept them in check? Wildlife does not need humans to survive. I think we can all agree that that is abundantly clear. therefore the myth had to be invented to justify the argument that humans must maintain "control" over nature.
