Ok, I have this pretty kluge-y setup at home, but it worked for me until my MyFi died this morning:

I used the MyFi and my Bose wave radio together to wake me up to XM content every morning. I left the MyFi on and set the radio to the transmitting frequency and it worked great.

Today I lost my MyFi so I tried the same trick with a Sportscaster I had hanging around and the signal was so weak that it was static-y even with the sportscaster sitting on top of the waveradio. I called XM and they said what I was trying to do was "illegal" and that the RF modulator only worked in the car.

I hooked the audio out into the aux input on the bose, but it won't let you set the alarm to AUX, only AM, FM, or CD (which is stupid...arrrgh!)

does anyone have a work-around for the FCC-mandated home modulator issue? This is going to be a problem :-)

thanks!

Steve

The problem is the weak FM transmission. You can go to myradiostore.com and pick up a RoadyXT for cheap. The FM signal is much stronger, and should work with your setup.

Is the inhome modulator ban new? The myfi was designed to work in the home and the car.

Also, dimmer switches can bung-up radio signals.

Around two years ago the FCC required that XM and Sirius lower their FM modulation under the premise it was bleeding onto people radios. (Its total bullshit how many people out there are listening to 88.1) So now on the newer units the transmission is overpowered but even faint signals.

I picked up an iRiver AFT-100 FM 'transmitter' to use in the house. It is designed for a car adapter, but if you pick up a DC to AC converter (pretty cheap), it works really well in your home.

It's some "creative" usage of materials, I'll give you that - but it works. PM me if you want some more info. :bye:

I can't do the firmware update for my Inno or else the FM modulator will be disabled (for home use).

The only real solution would be to use your Sporstcaster Car Cradle with your home power supply and antenna and fool it into thinking it is in the car so the FM Modulator would work.

I can't do the firmware update for my Inno or else the FM modulator will be disabled (for home use).

The original firmware of V1.05 is the only one that would really work the best. If you do have an inno and want your FM Modulator to work anywhere, you can use the FM Buddy manufactured by MyRadioStore:

http://www.myradiostore.com/home-car-kits/for-inno-kit/fm-buddy.html

If you have an Inno2 it even has a SureConnect cable to attach to the stereo's FM Antenna so you can still use it.

Go into:
Menu>Settings>Setup>>Set Time>Set Clock>Select Time Zone

And then just move one Time Zone Back (Switch Eastern to Atlantic)

This customer service was brought to you by MyRadioStore.com. For 2 years running, the leading independant retailer for XM Radio technology.

Now Dr. Steve, can you help me with this cyst I have on my back?

You can't pull anything directly off the inno, but I have a little Creative Zen Nano that I got for like $40 that I connect my Myfi to through the headphone port and I convert it to an MP3. I'm sure there are more savvy people out there who might have a more elegant solution, but this one works for me.
