Mom on trial for briefly leaving baby in car she could see (http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/12/mom.on.trial.ap/)

Note... It was a "community service officer" that busted her. Leaving kids in the car is usually stupid, but there are times when well meaning laws need to taken in context. This is fucking ridiculous.

"It's sleeting out, it's not pleasant, I don't want to disturb her, wake her up," Coyne said this week. "It was safer to leave her in the safety and warmth of an alarmed car than take her."
So Coyne switched on the emergency flashers, locked the car, activated the alarm and walked the other children to the bell ringer.

My wife does day care out of our home. We have heard horror stories where parents get their schedules confused and forget to drop off their child and leave them in the car while they go into their jobs. Sometimes this lead to the death of said child.

More than once my wife has received calls from frantic parents saying "DID I DROP OFF _____TODAY??!!"

I think to myself,"Why are you on the phone, go look in your fucking car....NOW!"

Absolutely amazing.

This is clearly a case that should never even get to trial; if it does, it should immediately be dismissed. Now these people have to spend thousands of dollars on lawyers. Amazing...

Man, that is pretty fucked up.
I find it odd that she was leaving her car, not to score crack or anything bad, but to give money to the homeless. And ten yards away? Lunacy. If you can see the kid, I'm not sure that that counts as "unattended".

I hate people who leave their dogs in the car, in the supermarket parking lot, with windows rolled up. Fucking savages. I'm not a violent person and value my non-incarcerated ass, but nothing makes me want to hurl a cantaloupe through a Murano windshield more than seeing a chocolate lab panting hard and sniffing at the crack in the window that isn't there.

Talk about the case has intensified, particularly online, where bloggers are weighing in on various message boards.
ronfez.net's ears are burning.

Leave Supermom alone. She rolled the windows down an inch.

PS- I love how the article goes out of it's way to repeatedly mention she was only there to give 8.29$ to Salvation Army Santa.

this should have never been accepted by the courts.
her lawyer should also step up and let this one go "on the house" when it gets thrown out.

Well the bell ringer should make a great witness for the hot mom.

When my kids were small I never worried about leaving them in the car. I worried about leaving them ON the car. We had one of those car seats that doubled as a carrier so you could just unhitch it from the base and carry the kid around in it. When I would go to put my kids in the car, I would place the carrier on top of the car while I opened the door. On more than one occasion, I would pull away and hear a thud and think the kid just fell off the roof of the car.

This wouldn't be a problem if chicks would just stay home where they belong and let the man worry about giving money he earns out to the needy.
If you do have to leave your kids in the car through a blanket over them and nobody would be the wiser.

I have a confession to make. Today, at approximately 9:15am, I left Baby Bandit in the car so I could drop some documents off at my office.

Luckily there were no police officers around. Plus, I have tinted windows! Mwah haha ha.

Ninety seconds. She was unharmed.

This case was ridiculous. There are people who have left their kids in the car to bake all day and die and don't get jail time because "they've suffered enough." This woman did nothing wrong.

I love how the police chief, rather than say something like it was a misunderstanding but the law is good, continues to blame the mother, saying she's at fault, the baby could have been kidnapped, blah blah blah. He looks like a fool.

Last Saturday, Piuki was out of the house, and I went outside to get the mail and left my Wii inside with the door unlocked. As I grabbed my cable bill, I realized what I had done wrong, sprinted back inside and played a quick game of Lego Star Wars. I'm so ashamed.

I am glad for once the right thing happened.
Being a parent in this country scares me, you can do everything right and still found guilty for bullshit and the parents that do everything wrong never get caught abusing their children. Where were the community officers when the other kids died in the cars as no mother or father was even near for hours?

I also cannot understand any parent forgetting to drop the kid off in daycare and then have the balls to call and ask if the child is there. If you are that loopy then you are clearly not suited to be responsible for a child.

they always back their officers even when the officer was a jerk off. what she did was smart. she didnt want to bring the child out in the cold or wake her. this is nothing, its like leaving your kids in the yard. i love how they added a charge at first "obstructing a peace officer". because she wanted to wait for her husband before she said anything further. whats wrong with that. you dont have to say anything, but they love adding charges to cases to make the crime seem even worse. this happens all the time and it sickens me and its the reason people fear the police rather then respect them.

Well it is sickening that people who have NO kids love to tell people who HAVE kids what to do when it comes to child care. "Oh I'D never do that with MY kids".
I am not talking about the obvious important shit like leaving the kids in a car with it wide open and running for ANYONE to jump in and steal the car. Or just forgetting if you dropped him or her off to day care. I mean the muindane shit like what this woman did.

please...everyone is different. What she did was NOTHING wrong. So those holier-then-thou assholes (like the 'police' person who busted her) please STFU and move along.
