AH...a subject near and dear to my heart! I am a self confessed blues fanatic, and I have so many heroes of the genre that influence my playing. If I had to pick just one, though, I'd probably have to go with Ry Cooder...absolutely the greatest slide guitarist on the face of the planet. He blows me away.

For an older blues guitarist, I have to chose Buddy Guy. I really enjoyed the two albums by Jonny Lang. It was amazing how a white teenager had that much blues in him. Then he disappeared. Oh well.

One of the best is R.L. Burnside... not a lot of people know about him, but he's got a lot of albums out there. One of the best is an album he recorded in 1994 at his house in Mississippi with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. It's called Ass Pocket Of Whiskey and it's just a great, great album.
Also I'm into another blues man called Junior Kimbrough. He died like a year or two ago, but he's got a whole bunch of albums too.
It's not like a modern blues either, its an old, hill country sound that is just rough and awesome.
Good bangin music too, with the right girl. ;)

Brick Jesus definitely touched on something.
Check out R.L. Burside if you haven't already.
