View Full Version : Celebrate the birth of IRISH ALKEY and others on March 22nd in NJ

Come join us at Pegasus at the Meadowlands Racetrack on Saturday March 22nd to celebrate the birthday of the great and very wonderful IRISH ALKEY and also the birthdays of happytypinggirl (me), Agiirl (barb) and Dean from Brooklyn.

The races start at 7pm so come a little before if you want to bet the first race. Info on the racetrack is at www.thebigm.com. Follow directions to the racetrack and then look for signs for the Pegasus Entrance. After the races end, those of us who still have energy are going to head over to alk's old bar-- Herberts-- in Secaucus.

DRESS CODE ALERT: No jeans/sneakers allowed, so you have to dig for a pair of pants. Apologies for the dress code, but hey, is it so awful to look nice for once? :) And it will be worth it cuz the girls will be dressed nicer too.

DETAILS: You can park for free in general parking or pay $5 for valet. If you valet make sure you follow sigs for the PEGASUS valet. And no matter where you park, you have to enter through the PEGASUS entrance which is seperate from the general entrance.

Admission is $5. Take the elevators upstairs and walk past the fancy buffet to the bar area (also called the saloon) where we'll have our own area by the bar to sit in. You can order dinner there if you like-- they have a fancy menu and a pub menu-- or if you want to save all your money for the races, you can take an elevator downstairs to the food court for cheap eats amongst the toothless crowd. :)

PLEASE RSVP: I need an idea of how many people we will be so they can give us enough waitresses and tables, and please please please be nice to the watiresses as they are friends.

Some of you have already gotten evites if i have your emails. You dont need to rsvp twice. Im sorry to those i didn't evite, i dont have your email. No slight intended. Everyone is invited. If you want to be on the evite so you feel more official...just send me your email. :)

Get there early and find the remains of Jimmy Hoffa unearthed by an backhoe. They would make an awesome birthday present for Alkey.

I'm sure HTG would prefer chocolates or something nicer though.

who is stu? oh and i know meadowlands parking is tight but you wont have any problems if you valet. so there's that option. of course thats $5 less for drinks/bets sooooo......

but i also dont think the general lots will fill. especially since its the night before easter. should be a reasonably quiet night at the track.

IrishAlkey was born like any other man?

I find this hard to believe.

I've always thought he was thrust into this world as a fully formed man. The thought of him as a child is just ridiculous.

I'd love to attend this little soiree, but I'm not sure if I can. Hopefully I'll be able to swing by at least for a little while.

In case anyone needs bus info from NY and all kinds of parts of New Jersey click on:

http://www.thebigm.com/Transportation.asp

Buses Leave Port authority every 60 minutes on from 8:50 am until 9:50 pm from Gate 224at Port Authority.

Return Buses kind of suck so its better to arrange a ride back to Manhattan if you can, but they run every 60 minutes from 9:12am to 9:12pm and depart from hte pedestrian bridge to the Izod arena, and at the bus shelters in hte parking lot #5 bus loop opposite the racetrack.

Tickets are $2.55 each way. You can't beat that. Get your tickets before going to the gate at any NJT automated terminal.

Pegasus also maintains a dress code of slacks and a collared shirt for gentlemen. A jacket is requested and no jeans or sneakers are permitted.

jacket requested does not mean jacket required, and in fact, very few people wear jackets there. also, they do not enforce the collared shirt or slacks requirement. people go in khaki's and a sweater all the time. stick with the no jeans/sneakers and you'll be fine. if in doubt, just give them a call and ask. :)

button down and khaki's are absolutely fine. some of the boys are going all out with jackets and/or suits, but its only cause they want to. its absolutely not necessary.

additional note on the dress code:

here has been my experience here. if you look nice, they dont bother you. the only "rules" that they enforce are no jeans no sneakers, but i've occasionally seen people in dressy jeans, and/or sneakers that they havent bothered.

i've also seen them turn someone away because of jeans once sooooo....there is some element of risk there.

when you come upstairs, dont stop at the front desk, just walk past it, and walk past the buffet to the bar area, and that way with a little luck, nobody will look at you and/or have an opportunity to stop you. and if you're going to take the risk, just have someone walk in front of you. so nobody notices you. :)

I will be sending you an invoice for the $86.40 you owe me, as well as a seperate bill for the pain and suffering and humiliation that I endured when I found out my winning horse was only paying out 5/3 instead of the 45/1 that you told me. :)

Tony 2 bucks isn't going to retire just yet. I think I won something on 5 out of 12 races. I won a total of $34 and spent $24 in bets. $5 parking, $5 admission and I broke even. I definitely can't complain....that translates to 4 hours of free entertainment.....not counting my losses to the bartender :)

That was a great night. I had a lot of fun, in spite of being sore as hell. Now I need to find some cool people that share a birthday on July 5th. I am thinking beach party. Like the Pegasus there will be a dress code. I'm thinking of Gunnison Beach, Sandy Hook. :thumbup:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunnison_Beach
