I was going through some stuff last nite, when i came across my Digital Underground Sex Packets TAPE. i was like whoa.
a quick search at our good friends at iso got me the digital copy for my ipod.
so, i was bumpin it last nite. this, my friends, is hip hop. not that garbage that is out today.
was part of it gimmick? of course, but that doesnt take away from the fact that this is good stuff.
Shock G, Money-B, Pac, Goldfingers, Schmoovy, and who ever else was in the band...
Thank you !

I think I have Sex Packets somewhere in my CD collection
I enjoyed the non hits also
I did not buy any other albums besides Sex Packets, but who cant appreciate the group who remade the Humpty Dance into a catchy hip hop tune

The booty's two feet from your head:
Should you:
A, take the time to find a condom,
B, you walk right over and you pound 'em,
C, tell her that you want her love,
Well the answer is D, all of the above.
great CD

I remember I had a tape called Raw Fusion I believe, it was Money B and DJ Fuze, pretty cool shit. There was some funny skit about a traffic jam.
"I'll be late to get my goddamn food stamps! They close at five o-fucking-clock. Godaaamit.."

I sang or do what ya like
And if ya missed it
I'm the one who said "Just grab 'em in the biscuits!"
It's "I sang on 'Doowhutchyalike' and just in case you missed it..."
'Sex Packets' is probably one of the best unsung hip-hop albums ever. Flat-out.
'Doowutchyalike' is probably their best/most entertaining song (you need to check out the extended album version, not the short radio version.)
Radio version. Album version goes on for 3 or 4 more minutes. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_t0CcHrYOs&feature=related)
"Vanessa Williams, ooh, you're so divine,
Just wanted to put your name in my rhyme,
And doowutchyalike..."
The great thing about DI, aside from their terrific use of funk, jazz, and old school R&B samples, is the great humor in their lyrics. It's really creative lyrically, and some of the stuff is laugh-out-loud funny. These guys were having fun!
'Underwater Rhymes' is a rap written from the perspective of a gangsta fish! MC Blowfish. Freakin' hysterical. There's a part where it actually sounds like they're rapping underwater.
"Pink champagne octopus brains
Saw your DJ underwater through the window pane.
That sucker tried to hit a mix, but the mix didn't happen,
Records kept floatin' all the fish kept laughin'
A blowfish blew my mind and started to rhyme,
As the octopus cut nine records at a time.
Your boy said, "Show me how to keep my records down,"
But the shark ate his amp, your boy got clowned."
Love Digital Underground.

They also did "Shimmy Shimmy Cocoa Pop" circa 1993 was alright
But calling it one of the best hip-hop albums is a stretch like armstrong

This album kicks motherfucking ass and it was the 1st tape my parents ever got mad at me for buying. For some reason they took it from me, kept it like 2 days and just ended up giving it back to me. I felt I had won some sort of weird battle.
Hip hop just doesn't get any better. Gotta have the tape, the CD doesn't have a couple things.

A forgotten member of the group was Kenny-K. He was good friends with Flipper. Kenny passed away in 1993 of kidney failure. Flipper actually dedicated the Dead German Tourists CD in the memory of Kenny.
Here's a scan of the inside cover of that CD which Flipper signed for me.
