According to the article, he killed himself because relatives wanted him to go into an assisted living facility. Yet he was able to build a robot that shot him in the head four times.

I never understood why suicide was illegal. You can make an argument either way for abortion based on your definition of life, but why is the government involved if you want to end your own life?

Much like abortion clinics, there should be suicide clinics. There you would have to talk to a counselor first (just to make sure you're not upset because your girlfriend just dumped you) and you would fill out the appropriate papers (like who to notify, organ donations, etc.). Then a doctor would give you a shot, you would fall asleep and that would be it.

Now they send you to psychiatric hell holes if you don't succeed.

In news that can only be described as utterly apocalyptic, an 81-year-old Australian Gold Coast resident has killed himself -- with an elaborate suicide robot, built using plans downloaded from the Internet. The man spent hours searching the Web for a way to go; then, after finding what he wanted, downloaded what he needed and built a remote firing mechanism for a gun.

He set the device up in his driveway (pictured, above), placed himself in front of it, and set the machine to kill; the machine was attached to a .22 semi-automatic pistol, which promptly fired multiple shots into the man's head.

The man apparently lived alone, and left notes of his plans and thoughts as he struggled to come to terms with relatives' demands to move out of his home and into care.

Which, apparently, didn't seem all that appealing to him.
