View Full Version : Ron Bennington: Corporate Shill???

Ron's remarks regarding XM and the companies that sell their service show that he is a company man. I've always thought that Ron was above it all and anti-authority. Am I dont get the bit guy or is Ron bowing down to corporate America and becoming the very thing he speaks out against???

You're making something out of nothing. In radio, you don't trash the sponsors. Ron just makes a joke out of it.

Ron was stopping Dave from getting trouble, his rant on Best buy was going south
why fuck with Best Buy, they are not a sponsor of the show, they sell the unit which help pay their salary

It's a simple matter of "don't bite the hand that feeds you."
IF you have a job then you have a boss. That boss works for somebody that works for somebody that works for somebody and so on and so on and so on. blasey blasey blah blah blah. Ron needs no defending, he is def his own man. What you do not seem to understand is SOMETIMES the help steps on thier own dick. Sometimes maybe just sometimes they need someone with Ron's clout to smooth things over with nice things to say about THE COMPANY THAT SHARES BUISINESS INTERESTS WITH THE COMPANY THAT PAYS THIER BILLS. I do not mean to CAPS LOCK SCREAM...............but jeez sometimes.:furious:

I've always thought that Ron was above it all and anti-authority.
To the dismay of generations of anti-authoritarian empowered youth, the encroaching realization that we all eventually have a 'man' to answer to, is the baptism of adulthood.

That was the FIRST thing that came to my mind! Those are the best live reads I've ever heard. They are the complete opposite of selling out. In fact, I found them so moving that I want Fez to come to my funeral someday and announce that it was ALL NATURAL CHA DE BUGRE that killed me. Especially if I died from something totally unrelated, like a gunshot wound.
Sometimes my boyfriend and I play the I-57 Ignite spots on repeat at night when we cook dinner. Huh. It sounds a little weird when I put that in words.
To address the original topic, I agree with the last person who posted and said that it's just a fact of life that at some point you have to accept that you are answerable to others to some degree. One of my favorite things about Ron is that I think he is one of those people who is able to take things seriously enough while not taking things too seriously at all. If that makes sense.
So no, I don't really think that his (totally hilarious) advocacy of corporate sponsors makes him a corporate shill.

Ron Bennington completely ducked the issue of the XM Sirius merger today, blatantly towing the corporate line by focusing the entire show once again on Fez and his issues (like an upset tummy). Ron is slowly losing the God like status for me on his political action and his pandering to the day time, soap opera, housewife crowd!

This may be the stupidest thing I've seen posted all week. He didn't talk about what you wanted him to talk about, so he's pandering? Talking about Fez returning, which is probably more of concern to the regular listening audience, is some pandering to the day time, soap opera, housewife crowd? How do you figure that? Somehow, talking about the merger is more dangerous radio? Oooooh.
Maybe it's not as interesting to everyone as you think it is right now. The merger has been discussed to death as it is. Furthermore, although the merger is getting closer, but it still isn't a done deal. Even when it does come to fruition, it will likely be a while before it's effective, Ron likely doesn't know how it's going to shake out internally because, I'm sure, fairly few have a good idea on that. To the extent he does know what's going to happen internally, he probably isn't allowed to talk about it.
There's also the possibility that XM doesn't want them to talk about the merger. If that's the case, guess what? They can't talk about it. It's called staying employed. I guarantee that every radio station they've ever worked for has put some kind of content restrictions on them. I'm not saying this is the case, because I have no idea if XM is restricting whether they talk about the merger, but if it is the case, Ron is no longer your hero because he won't do something to get himself fired? Grow up.
Cut him some slack....

The merger's not actually done yet: the FCC has to weigh in. So discussing it too much at this point is still fraught with danger, and I see why Ronnie wouldn't want to talk about it too much. I mean, he says the wrong thing, he's fired, and he's forced to smoke cheap-ass Puerto Rican cigars. And that would truly be a fate worse than death.
