View Full Version : old volkswagen beetles
I saw a 1971 red convertible super beetle for sale. It would be a pretty sick car to have. Has anyone else owned an old one? The only thing that worries me is that they are old cars. I know Mexico made the old style ones till 2003 so i was thinking about just buying a mexican one maybe....
any info?

EXTREMELY unsafe cars!!! Especially for a new driver.
I don't care how old they are, VW convertibles = gay.

Buy it. You won't have any problems finding parts when you need to and you'll be able to do all the work yourself. I've owned 3 beetles in my life, never a convertible tho', and driven cross country with 1 when I came home from college. They're cheap, reliable and fun. With 2 buddies you can replace the engine by removing 4 bolts and then lifting the rear end up and over the engine as it sits on a milk crate.
Yes, people will think you're gay but let's face it, they do already anyway. Doesn't make you a bad person...

My dad had a Beatle back in the day. Thing I remember most was having blankets in it because the heater broke all the time.
It is true you can do most work on them yourself, and parts are easy to find. The problem is you work on it all the time.

Mike Seaver drove a Beatle convertible and he was the very definition of masculinity.

Well, he IS looking at cars over 30 years old! He's going to have to get his hands dirty occasionally.
And the heater couldn't 'break' because all it was was a tube coming off the engine block with a lever to close and open the cover in the passenger compartment! All the heat was pointed at the drivers and front seat passengers ankles. Everybody in the back seat froze by design.
I blame Hitler.

Buy a dune buggy instead. Chicks dig it!!
My neighbor has his son's bug stuffed away in his garage. That thing is jacked so high he must snap cv joints at a pretty good rate. Hasn't been out of the garage in at least four years. Hmmm. Wonder if it has a title...
I'm looking for a solid Honda CT-70. Um, my son is 10.

What -- you never heard of a 'crumple-zone'? That's not a defect, it's a safety feature!

I had a friend many years ago. The end.
Wait, no: I had a friend many years ago who had a Beetle whose floorboard had rusted out so that you had to keep your feet up on the seat in the back unless you wanted to shave down your heels/break your legs. It was scary fun to watch the road pass underfoot at 50 mph. This was technically a devolution into a Flintstone mobile since it was a stick and could be push started by dangling one's legs out the bottom to start momentum. Yabba Dabba Don't!

Tony Petrucelli took this picture and all the VW Beatle shots for the original ad campaign in the late 60's- met him in 95, he had Petrucelli Studios in Newport Beach Ca, the nicest, richest guy i've met, he loved the leggy models he used to shoot, i'll just say he threw the best parties in town.

Hippo has ninja like abilities. If one should attempt an errant buggy punch, said punch will fail to connect.
