On Friday after leaving the studio, me and Servo went to the coffee shop on 7th to grab some food. I order a burger and the waitress comes back with my food, but there's a long black hair across my plate. This just sucked because I've been up since 5am and it's now 3ish and I haven't eaten anything all day. So I send it back and she apologizes. Now we're sitting right next to the kitchen pickup so I'm watching to see if they just take the hair off and give me the same food, which they didn't and she brings me a fresh plate. The entire time I'm eating it all I could think about was the hair and if there was anything hiding somewhere on this plate that one wouldn't want to eat.

Having said all this, my question is if you're in a restaurant, and you get a hair in your food (thank God it was a long one) do you chalk it up to an accident that happens and it's no big deal, or do you get the idea that the place your in is a dirty shithole?

I've worked in diners and stuff so I know shit like that (and worse) happens but sometimes I can't get past it.

I chalk it up to no big deal. In fact, I've removed pieces of hair and just started eating. As long as it isn't in the sandwich. There are much worse things in a restaurant you have to worry about. Have you seen the report on the lemons you get in your water? Yuck.

Yeah that one really got to me. Thank God I stopped doing that when my girl brought that to my attention when we were out somewhere.

nope , Hair in the food = manager coming over

replacing the meal, then hopefully comping the meal

with a comped meal and a apology, I may come back and eat again

this happened to me at Chevys in 2002, manager was an arrogant prick, took no accountability, I have not been back since

Was it a hair 'on' the food, or 'in' the food? I think the earlier could be forgiveable at times.

Also I can't fuckin stand it when sometimes I find an eyelash in my food and can't battle back and forth in my head whether it's mine or not. That drives me insane.

Agreed. A hair is one thing, but a RED one? Creepy.
I dont wanna eat anywhere near those freckled freaks, let alone let them prepare my food.

This doesn't bother me as much as it should, simply for the fact that I've been putting lemons in my water in restaurants all my life and I'm just fine...I can look past it.

At my favorite place to eat in Montclair I found a pube at the bottom of my french fries. It really bothered me at first but even then I knew I'd be back. They were really nice about it and of course comped my meal. Their french fries are just so damn good! I've been back several times since then.

A friend of mine works in a steak house and says some people will plant pubes or hairs in their food just to get out of paying... slime!

i'm dry heaving as I read this. One time I was having a coffee and eating a brownie in this cafe. I went to break the brownie in half and there was a long hair baked right in the middle. I called the waitress over to show her my little discovery but she didn't believe me. UNTIL I lifted up one piece of the brownie and the other half swung back forth in front of her face by that long singular strand of hair. Hideous.

the only time I won't make a fuss over food in my hair is if it's my mother's. Meh.

That's horrifying!

My parents' church was having a bake sale featuring hand-made Easter chocolate... I bit into a chocolate bar and bit down on something that wasn't chocolate. When I pulled it out... it was a... STAPLE!!! When I complained the snotty girl running the register acted like she couldn't give a shit less... what was I going to go do, tell the Pastor? Or God?? I just walked away feeling completely annoyed.

A stray hair (unless it's short and curly) doesn't bother me that much. Like some others on the board, I've worked in kitchens and know that there's a lot worse than finding a hair on your plate.

I have never worked in the food industry because I don't want to know what happens. I want to think everything is GREAT! Tip top shape! I want to be naive and think the worse that happens is hair in food. So let me be but yet I keep coming back to this disgusting thread !

I am a hairstylist so most times when I find a hair on food it has come from me so I am usually reluctant to say anything. Unless it is IN the food...thats grounds for a complaint.

I look at it this way. I get hair in my mouth when I eat a girl out. If I happen to get hair in my mouth because the big Samoan chef is balding, so be it.

The grossest one I found was inside a samosa (Indian potato stuffed pastry). A thick, black short hair baked inside which I just happened to discover when I broke the samosa in two pieces which I usually don't do. My stomach churns when I think I might have eaten it if I hadn't broken the thing open. Yarf!

Would you like crabs with your hair?
