I was listening to a show on NPR and a guy was discussing a book all about the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, a kooky religious cult-like figure who thinks he's Jesus Christ and happens to be responsible for the Washington Times, the rag that neo-conservative radio hosts and bloggers like to reference.
Read this shit, he's a kook! Congress even gave him a crown!

In 2004, at a March 23 ceremony in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.) wore white gloves and carried a pillow holding an ornate crown that was placed on Moon's head.
Moon delivered a long speech in which he stated that he was "sent to Earth . . . to save the world's six billion people. . . . Emperors, kings and presidents . . . have declared to all Heaven and Earth that Reverend Sun Myung Moon is none other than humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent."
And they are trying to get Obama for his association to a preacher? Ha!

He's doing an awful job saving the world considering this is the first time I've heard of him.

He is a wack job, Conservatives live with him because he was so anti-communist back in the 80's

Back in the 70's and 80's you'd hear about him a couple of times a year at least. He'd officiate over these massive weddings.

They also used to hang out in airports and bug people to join them (and I think ask for donations).

That's just the dark side of the Moon.

I think his "fame" has died down quite a bit recently but he's quite a well known religious figure. He owns a farm up in Port Jervis, NY and growing up in Jersey older relatives would always say, "yeah, the moonies have got their hand in this or that."

the MOONIES!
Local legend had it that in Armonk (Westchester) at the top of this long ass driveway was a Moonie Church/encampment. I know we drove up it once when I was younger and got chased back down the hill by angry peoples.

Oh man, I would give my left nut to go harass some Moonies. That would be a great way to kill a Saturday.

Back in the 70's and 80's you couldn't so much as stop at a red light in NYC without a crew of like 18-20 "moonies" , the majority of them Korean, surrounding your car and sticking fists full of individually wrapped roses into your window..Usually coupled with the sales pitch of.."You buy frower, for your rady"..It always worked on me..At five bucks a pop no price was to steep for my RADY..
