I am really bummed out today -
I spent all day yesterday in re-training with co-workers and we had our annual refresher in CPR training. Me and another guy were cutting up and not paying much attention and we both said that if faced with the task of actually performing CPR - our patient would die. I just cant see me doing it -it weirds me out. Well, as karma would have it I have found out this morning that his live in girlfriend (35 yrs old) suffered a major heart attack last night and died in his arms. I dont know yet if he was able to try to revive her but damn - if he would have paid more attention would it have paid off? I feel terrible for him.

That's incredibly sad news Bob & I hope your buddy doesn't blame himself in any way. It's going to be difficult enough for him without the added burden of guilt.

All my best to you, your co-worker, & the families involved.

Chalk it up to a terribly ironic coincidence and nothing more.

I'm sorry for your friend's loss and your subsequent mood. However, i am sure he tried any and all venues that were available to help her.

I take CPR classes every 2-3 years to renew my certificate. The only thing I would feel uncomfortable with is doing CPR to a baby. It's one thing to do CPR on the little baby doll they have at the courses, but to do it in real life is kinda nerve racking as you don't want to make a mistake cuz the baby's like depends on it. I hope that situation never comes about. I see myself freezing if that were ever to happen.

Jesus CB that sucks, I am sorry to hear about that. I guess all I can say is that it is terribly ironnic and just be a good friend to the guy.

CPR would have helped. And if there was a defibilator close by, it would have increase her chances even more. That's the only grip I have about the CPR classes is that they don't really demonstrate how it works, they talk to you about it or show you a video.

Sorry for your friends lost.

I'm really sorry CB. 35 is way to young to die. Don't feel any guilt though. CPR is a life saving technique, but a lot of timEs the down time is too great and significant brain damage occurs.

You joking around during the course didn't cause anything to happen. Life is unkind like this sometimes. Keep your chin up.

The CPR class I took had us work with the defibulator. But the defibulators they use today are pretty much idiot-proof. They basically tell you what to do and when to do it.

the cpr/first aid classes i took showed some videos, but it was mostly all hands on with the dummies and fake AEDs. the instructors were a lot of fun, and they kept our interest going.

New CPR rules say you don't have to do mouth to mouth. just go to the chest pumping.
