Ron mentioned this on the show a few years ago and I didn't find a thread dedicated to it, so I'm bringing it up again, because those who haven't seen it.... must.

Only because it may be one of the greatest films of all time.

I watched it again last night and I had forgotten how f'n hysterical it was.

Watch the whole thing here, Heavy Metal Parking Lot. (http://www.boingboing.net/2008/03/24/heavy-metal-parking.html)

Here is a short clip:

AWESOME. I can't help but watch this and picture everybody without teeth, as I'm pretty sure that's what they look like now.

I like "I'd jump his bownes".

I think that's at the old Capital Centre parking lot. The funny thing is I wonder how many of those Priest fans knew Rob Halford was gay -- especially that chick from Glen Burnie: "I'd jump his bones!"

God, I used to party with people like that back in high school ::shudder::

That's correct. You'll also notice a number of DC101 shirts in the film, if I recall correctly.

Its also ironic that the site of the old Capital Centre has become a gigantic upscale outdoor mall for the numerous rich black people that inhabit the area. I went up there a few years ago and have never seen so many Jaguars in my life.

There's also another one of those where they did the same thing for a Neil Diamond concert, which I believe was also at the Capital Centre

HMPL FTW.

A similar doc from a few years ago is Raver Bathroom. Oh, yes, it's as bad/hysterical as it sounds. Here's the first part:

It's in my Netflix queue.

I saw a bit of it and could have sworn it was filmed in Long Island.

On a side note-- I wish Penelope Spheeris would make a movie about all the people that said that they'd make it in The Decline Of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. I really want to know what happened to them all; especially the ones that said that they'd make it no matter what. There was no other option for them.

Heavy Metal Parking Lot is a classic and part of DC pride. The DVD has some pretty fun extras, including a documentary tracking down some of the people from the film who had no idea this thing ever existed, as well as an introduction by my friend, DC horror host legend, Count Gore De Vol. It also has the news report of the Cap Center being imploded, which was very sad for me as I spent many years going to see concerts, hockey, circuses, monster truck shows and pro rassling there.

The filmmakers behind HMPL returned to the Captial Center (after it was renamed, but before it was destroyed) several years later for "Neil Diamond Parking Lot" which was pretty damn funny, and they even got their own show called "Parking Lot" on the Trio channel.

This is the kind of film that was made for the You Tube generation a good 20 years before You Tube.

FINALLY SAW THIS. It was the perfect length. Twenty minutes is really all you need to realize JUST HOW STUCK you felt in the in the 80s; regardless of what sort of music you liked.

Watched it. THEN watched it with the "director" commentary. HILARIOUS!!! They were afraid of their subjects. I find it funny that ONE particular "metal specimen" had his doubts about Rob Halford while all the girls wanted to jump his bones. Interesting....

By all means, RENT IT just so you can feel better about your lot in life.

Jeff Krulik is still working and working - here's a very funny blurb from last week's Washington Post about his latest obsession - the mystery surrounding a Led Zepplen show for only 55 people at a Wheaton, Maryland rec center on January 20, 1969 - Richard Nixon's inauguration day.

Growing up in D.C. in the seventies and eighties I went to the Cap Center often, mostly for hockey games. I had a fondness for the place. I can't wait to see this movie. I've heard a lot about it from different sources.
