I love it when you call the show, or even better, when you are on the show. Thanks for the thought provoking entertainment you bring.

Finally a real reason for this thread. The kudos and ego snacks are appreciated, but these die hard and fast, for good reason.

I think I did this in a past thread.

GUESS HOW MUCH MIKE EARNED aka WHAT DO TEACHERS REALLY MAKE???

I last taught high school in 1998. At that time I'd been teaching six years. Two diff districts.

Q: What was the highest salary I ever made as a full time high school science teacher, in NJ, base salary [we got extras for coaching but were not counting that] with a Masters in Education?

I have it to the nearest ten dollars in front of me. And I will reveal soon so we can lock this thing up.

Believe me you wont insult me being waaaay off high and/or low. I'll even help; higher then $10K, lower then $100K.

OK, I'm game and assuming it was a public school, I will say $38k.

Public school, sorry I omitted that.

No point in this at all, just seeing what anyone thought the average teacher could earn then.

A historical footnote; ten years before, in 1988 New Jersey was the first state to pass a minimum public school teacher's salary. Gov. Kean was hoping for a raise to a minimum teacher's salary of $22,000. What was the minimum that they got?

$18,500.

Damn. Thought I'd be closer. My wife's a high school business teacher (20 years in w/Masters plus 5). When we got married (in '88) neither one of us had a pot to piss in and I think I was making like $12K a year. She was doing better than that I know for a fact.

Hmmmm, let's try $25,313.

If you are a newbie, please consult the file library for MTT segments, as far back as you can go, they are all phenomenal.

Urban school, ten years ago, 48K
Suburban, ten years ago, 52K

I was not making a comment on what teachers, or you make in particular, make. I was trying to nudge you into taking Earl's position.

Money is not everything. Your past teaching and training has made you what you are today, which is an educator of thousands and thousands.

38K is certainly not everything.

Ban private schools. Make rich kids go to school with everyone else. Just a thought.

I always enjoy Mike's appearances on the show and always feel like he wasn't on long enough when the segment ends.

Does he actually "rule" though?

I'm not so sure.

Well, he will give you a good rapping across the knuckles with a ruler if you're talking during class.

Love ya too Patty boy.

I've already said my nice things about Mike somewhere else.

That really pisses me off that educators get so little money. This ethos of "well if it's alot of money, then you get the wrong kind of people wanting the jobs" is bullshit because most people in teaching have to go through a ridiculous amount of schooling and training in order to become a teacher nowadays. We're talking graduate degrees masters, and beyond for some.

Sigh. I wish I could do something about this shit...but I guess you teachers have it better now than you did back in the days...being slaves who had to be a little boy emperor's tutor.

Was Aristotle a slave?

What Mike The Teacher does not want anyone to know, lest they stop feeling sorry for teachers, is the amount he makes in tip money.

And don't forget all the underage tail they get. Can't put a price tag on that!

Kidding, Mike, I'm just kidding!

Big Ronnie B is a genius and I would never dream of telling him how to run the show.
So here is what he should do.
Hire Mike the Teacher for Executive Producer

I love Fez, but he is better as an on air personality.
I don't hate Earl, but he is not EP material.
Consider how similar a teacher and an EP are.
Handing out assignments to the interns.
Making sure they do their work.
Keeping everyone busy.
Helping people learn how to do new things.
And to top it off, Mike is great on the mike too.

Quote Do XM producers get paid more than teachers? hmmmmm, just a thought

Serpico1103 XM has lots of money, give Mike twice what he makes now.
