It might have been the remake of Omega Man that killed him but Godspeed Colonel Taylor. (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/080405/clsa013.html?.v=11)
May you forever be taking those damn, dirty apes to task.

Now's the time.
Charlton Heston has gone back for some new Commandments.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080406/ap_on_en_mo/obit_heston;_ylt=AnY6fzbDCMNDvcsge3NaL6d34T0D
Acted in some iconic films (sometimes well); stood up for what he believed in ... not a bad life, I reckon. Tough at the end though, Alzheimer's is a bitch.
Godspeed.

That opening overhead shot is ripped off so much it's ridiculous. And Welle's monologue about "chili" is tremendous.

Time to whip up some Soylent Green biscuits for the funeral luncheon.
Rest in peace Chuck.
I wish that we lived in a world where he, or any one of us, could CHOOSE to go out on our own terms instead of the way that he probably did actually go: drooling all over himself, laying in a pair of shit-filled diapers and thinking his wife was the Easter Bunny.
If you ask me, this is the way to go (everything except the part about making the people cookies.)

While I feel sad for his passing & I recognize his excellent work...I also feel kinda guilty because my first thought upon reading of Heston's passing was, "Oh good, now O&A will play the NRA-Theme Restaurant bit from the WNEW Days!"
You know, the good ole' days, back when Ant still did voices, Opie didn't cut every bit off at 3 minutes when it could have kept us laughing for 40 minutes, and the non-hayseed & non-trucker calls lead to fan interaction Comedy Pyramids made of pure gold!"
Then I realized that half the bit might be deemed offensive nowadays & would likely have to be edited for FM broadcast. Thank God for the XM portion of the show.
R.I.P., Chuck.

Touch of Evil... meh... I'll say it the emperor has no accent and a bad mustache... Yes I know its *the* noir film but Chuck is so non-Mexican I cant watch. I mean I do, all the time, but still...
Planet of The Apes; not the perfect sci-fi movie but one that had so much; a great script, locations, apes that were believable enough that you werent constantly thinking 'person in monkey suit' and it was a bigger success then anyone imagined. How many sequels? Tv Shows?
How many allegories can a movie have? Beats me but this one was one huge one; every issue; racism, sexism, how we treat animals vice versa, medical research, good vs evil and which is which, dominance hierarchies, leadership hierarchies, the evil nature of man/animal...
Sigh...

I'm so glad you posted that pic. People think of Heston only as a gun advocate but he was one the first Holywood stars (and I think the only Republican) to march with Dr. King. He was a class act. RIP.

Haven't listened to O&A in a while, but I will make sure to listen Monday...hopefully Anthony gives his Heston impression a nice swan song.
While I love Planet of the Apes (and Beneath The Planet Of The Apes to a much lesser extent), my favorite Charlton Heston film moment is when Michael Moore sandbags him in that interview at the end of Bowling For Columbine and Charlton Heston just gets up and basically runs away in his own house.

That was just Micheal pulling a bit. He seems to understand where political arguments end and real life begins. He also seems to know that the clock ticks for us all. He did this a ways back when Roger Smith died.

but Earnest Borgnine is strong like bull......
borgnine kept in shape by beating the shit out of his then wife ethal merman. and could you blame him? could you imagine that voice constantly in your ears?
for me, hestons' most memorable film was "Number 1" where he played an aging new orleans quarterback. Back then you would pay money to see nfl football, on film, anywhere. you only got sunday afternoon football back then.
The late 60's-early 70's "cool" of mock turtlnecks and ridiculously large cars, and bobby knight style haircuts were only outshined by heston throwing a football like a girl. and not just any girl, but the type of girl that wears bright yellow dresses with pigtails and carries a large lollipop.
he was priceless. so long, guy who throws a football like a girl man.
