I was listening to the radio today and heard "Freebird" for the millionth time in my life. Do people still like this song or is it every bit the tripe I think it is?

I always liked it. I know it is a famous song, and famously overplayed, but I haven't heard it a million times, so I still enjoy it.

I love the song. And almost all other Skynard.

Way too played out, but it'll always have a soft spot in my heart as being the regular last slow dance song of the night at middle school dances.

Absolutely LOVED Skynyrd as a kid, but even then my patience wore thin after 7 minutes.

I like my rock to hit and run....like The Ramones.

But I won't stand for anyone running down Ronnie VanZandt and the boys!

"Freebird" is the Hayseed "Stairway To Heaven"

Freebird is not a bad song, but it is overplayed.

And I am going to stomp someone (perhaps an unlucky ant, or my own shadow) if I hear Skynyrd being mentioned in the same breath as the Allmans one more time.

The Allmans when on target sound about a thousand times better than anything Skynyrd has ever done. The current Allmans lineup (including Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks) has been kicking ass since 2001 and completely blow away the staid current version of LS.

In order to maintain my love of the song, I have to limit the amount of times I listen to it.

It is one of the top ten songs of all time, thats why its played out. But if you dont listen to mainstream radio and just XM and ipod music you shouldn't be too burnt out on it if your 30 or under.

That being said if a shitty band is playing someplace and they ask for requests I have to shout out, "Freebird mutha fuckers"!!! Its a God damn compulsion.

I'm sorry boys, but to me, no Duane Allman + no Dickie Betts = no Allman Brothers.

I will admit the current lineup is phenomenally better than the disgraceful band currently touring as Lynyrd Skynyrd, and that Gregg Allman is perhaps the greatest white soul singer of all time, but it's not really The Allman's.

Still a talented band, but just not the same.

I disagree. To me The Stones are Keef + Mick + Charlie.

The other members are extraneous.
