Ive got to say today was genius. every show is good but today's just crushed. the one slow point was when they were talking about boner and wax player and while i was sitting there lost it hit me... earl and pitzy and wickie and the myriad of things that ron has to deal with arent what wrecks a show. the message board people are the lone reason for a show screeching to a halt.

bear with me here, but xm has close to 8 million subscribers in 2 countries and worldwide on the internet, and here's a scenario that plays out time and time again: ron and fez are cruising along for the first hour of a show riffing on topics and giving their opinions and experiences and killing. say ron brings up the topic of movies and inevitably the show is torpedoed by board poster 'frenchfry' calling up and wasting the next close to an hour complaining about the time that frenchfry went to the movies with SuperDude and Spankypants and Frenchfry is still mad at Spankypants because spankypants didnt offer to pay the toll on the george washington bridge 4 months ago on the way to the theatre. from here it devolves into such inside, private and personal dreck that the only person who remotely gives a shit are frenchfry and spankypants which leaves 8,999,998 subscribers out of the loop and pissed off.

second scenario is noon rolls around, great show opening and music choice, ron and fez greeting and ........bah SuperDude is sitting in for the entire show for the 14th time this month, forcing his way into the conversation and defacto 3rd mic and adding nothing of substance to the conversation other than he's battling with sparkleface and bigbutt44 because after helping bigbutt44 move a dryer, bigbutt44 slammed superdude in a post online.

again i say, other than the 3 fake name, online board posters, who gives a fuck about any of it. fuck them and their dryer. today with no callers and pestering message board people (mostly) fez was on fire and constantly interacting, ron was brilliant dropping one-liners and even dave was interesting and sounded bright and with it.

i think the message board folks feel like they're all part of the show because ron and fez (and opie and anthony) have to be the most accessible and outgoing media / entertainment celebs on the planet. they go to bar outtings, interact with the listeners and make the listeners feel like a part of the show. this is a great thing, but its when the message board people take it too far and think because they bought ron a cigar at a bar nine outting in 2006 that they can take over a show and talk about pretend online people and reference places and events that only matter to the 3 pretend online fake name people who were there.

flame if you want, but if someone's irked its likely theyve got 8000 posts and have called in to talk about the time they were on paltalk and greengoblin76 and them were talking about a time they took a train down to DC to see ron and fez at WJFK 4 years ago.

So, which is it?

As much as I disagree with you that the Ron and Fez show is ever a bad listen,
I can see where youre coming from as far as some of the uninvited guests and callers (not necessarily "message board people").
I know who most of them are, but even I sometimes have to shrug my shoulders and say,
"I guess I wasnt at that event..." or "I guess I missed that one..."

I can see where it would be frustrating constantly being out of the loop, and I sympathize with you and others who feel this way. I dont think it's likely to change any time soon, however. Ron and Fez are fan friendly, and incredibly gracious hosts, even to the detriment of their own show. If you were to stumble in to the studio, theyd give you just as much attention as they do any other fan, as long as you had something to say.

In summation, I'll paraphrase the great Donald Rumsfeld in the early 21st century:

You dont entertain with the show you wish you had; You entertain with the show youve got.

I think they should be given a shot at the next "Night of 1000 Podcasts".

Yesterday's show was amazing. I see your point, but do, however, think that Ron's comic genius can find the funny in anything thrown his way. Sometimes it gets inside, but that's always been a huge part of the show. From the moment I walked into this show years back I realized it was very inside. Once you learn who some of the players are, you get locked inside. It's like reality radio... who's mad at who, who's dating who... It all makes up the background of the most hysterical and unique show in radio today.

The taped shows have been great and Fez seems to be more relaxed for some odd reason.
I enjoy the show coming to a stall and the uncomfortable silence it brings.
The inside shit is ok as long as it dosn't last to long.

i think its really nice of ron to stay late and tape another show.
a lot of radio personalities would never ever think of staying another 3 hours to tape the next day's show.

ron is the best.
ron is nice.
ron is selfless.
ron is my hero.....

Thinly veiled bitching. So much better than overt bitching.

I do agree that yesterday's show was fantastic...BUT several board/paltalk members were brought up on the show: Boater, HTG, laxplaya, mafia life chris and Julie the brazilian so you're little hypothesis is basically out the window. I will say that the easy going, fun tone of the show may be attributed to the lack of earl and pitzy being ripped a new asshole.

Also don't forget Dave and Mooch were at one time just listeners and look what they bring to the show now.
