Can a wrap be considered a sandwich?

I have a friend that calls wraps sandwiches. Is what makes the difference the thickness of the bread?

No, or they would call it a sandwich.

Does that mean a hoagie is not a sandwich?

I vote yes for a wrap being a sandwich...it's meat, cheese and/or veggies in between bread (even though it is flat bread).

A lot of people consider gyros sandwiches, right? If that one gets a pass, I don't see why wraps shouldn't.

No, a burrito doesn't have the typical contents of a sandwich. A wrap is literally a sandwich rolled up in flat bread.

I actually get kind of annoyed whenever I see hamburgers listed under "sandwiches" on restaurant menus. I guess it basically is a sandwich of sorts, but it still bothers me a little.

So you're against the hamburger's claim to being a sandwich but you agree that a wrap is a sandwich? Absurd.

Well, I often see wraps on menus as low-carb alternatives for sandwiches, so I think it makes sense to throw them into the sandwich category.

Two pieces of bread = sandwich.

One piece of bread/bread-like product = wrap.

I think most places list it as "Sandwiches & Wraps".

A wrap is not a sandwich!. The difference being that the things on the inside are all swirled up and not layered. I make sandwiches out of pita bread like this:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/216/467508011_ad5d2c6f83_o.jpg
That is a sandwich! It all depends on how the meat and other shit is stacked. End of story, lock it up!

I say no.

A sandwhich, as I believe was previoulsy mentioned, has to contain slices of bread.

To allow anything that contains slices of meat to be considered a sandwich would mean all heros, wedges, hoagies, subs or whatever you call that type of meal would be a sandwhich and I think they stand alone.

sandwhich = bread
hero, wedge, hoagies, etc = long roll

No no no fuck no no no.

I hate a wrap. The tortilla (or pita, or whatever you want to call it) gets clammy the minute you refrigerate it, and who the hell knows how long those wraps have been sitting there in the fridge at the convenience store or airport deli or where ever you're buying your wrap like products. You think they take the old ones out back and make new ones every day? Fuck no. They just sit there next to the Dasanti day after day after day getting clammier and clammier, like a corpse.

And they're always made with pesto or sundried tomato or some shit that chicks think taste good but don't belong anywhere near a real sandwich.

And what the fuck is up with those kettle chips or those radish/sweet potato/cauliflower chips that are sitting in a stupid wicker basket next to the case with the wraps and the dasanti and that stupid cup of yogurt with the granola already sprinkled on top so it can get soggy while it sits there lurking for the next available starving traveler? Why can't they have any regular chips? Those goddamn kettle chips taste stale, like there's something wrong with them.

And I don't give a shit that salt and vinegar chips are popular in England. Who cares? Just give me regular chips, for christ's sake.

What about folding a peice of bread in half to make a small sandwich? Is this no longer a sandwich?

NIGEL: There's a problem here, I don't even know where to start.
IAN: Sound check?
NIGEL: No no no no, look- look this- this miniature bread, its like, I've been working with this for about a half an hour now- I can't figure out...You've got this-
IAN: You'd like bigger bread?
NIGEL: Exactly! I don't understand how...
IAN: You could just fold it though...
NIGEL: Well no, then its half the size
IAN: Fold the meat.
NIGEL: Yeah then it breaks apart like this.
IAN: Well, no put it on the bread like this...see?
NIGEL: But then if you keep folding it it keeps breaking..
IAN: Why would you keep folding it?
NIGEL: Everything has to be folded- and then its this, and I don't want this, I want large bread so that I can put this, so then its like this, but then this doesnt work, cuz then its all
IAN: Cuz it hangs out like that...
NIGEL: Look, would you be holding this?
IAN: No I wouldn't want to eat that.

I change my mind. A wrap is not a sandwich. Wikipedia never lies:

A sandwich is a food item made of two or more slices of leavened bread with one or more layers of filling: typically meat, seafood or cheese with the addition of vegetables or salad. The bread can be used as is, or it can be coated with butter, oil, mustard or other condiments to enhance flavor and texture.

Glad to see I got away with that edit. :devil2:

A hot Dog is not a sandwich unless you cut it lengthwise and put it on sliced bread. A LA a hot Dog sandwich.
