*disclaimer: LOVE THE FEZ! not maligning fezzie at all. and yes im a noob (only listening for the last 9 months or so) so if this has been discussed to death i apologize.*
i always crack up when everyone is discussing something and out of nowhere, after being quiet for a while, fez will just change the topic with some random question.
the other day it was something about sandwiches, but its so random you never know what is coming.
they could be discussing obama and the elections, and there doesnt have to be a break in the conversation or anything but fez will just throw out a "hey, if someone eats their soup with a straw do you consider it a meal or a beverage!?"
ps. love the fez!

Some of my favorites:
"What drinks go with what foods?"
and of course:
"What celebrity would you call if you were about to die?"

I like that Ron has really started to catch on and really presses Fez about what he's asking.

"Conversations starters" = note cards.
True but Fez has the perfect timing so even if they are pre-thought of he slips them in so well.

Miss Soundboard Fez.
I don't think that this isn't actually anything new - Fez has always done a lot of show prep, and he and Ron use to share in the heavy-lifting of moving the show along. During the old "Fastest Hour" format (which is a little like the "Big City" format), they would bounce from topic to topic, taking turns, etc.
If it seems more random now maybe it's because the show has changed up - I can imagine that during those lulls Ron might let Fez know he's ready to move things in a different direction, even if he plays it differently on the air.
I do like the phrase "conversation starters."

i always love the random questions
"which would you rather have.." then some crazy shit

Exactly. In fact, the format and flow of the pre-recorded shows are very reminiscent of the old "Fastest Hour" shows from the WJFK days.
Oh those were good times....

It was a brutal, nutty schedule/time, but I have special fondness because Ron would still write and send e-mails and IMs during the hour. I communicated almost exclusively during that hour for almost 8 months before I ever met them.

I love when Ron says "Hey pal, what's on your mind." What's great about it that Fez makes that segment all about him. It's the only time when we get hear the inner Fez.

Those "fastest hour" segments are still among my all-time R+F faves.
I also el-oh-el'd when a caller (about 6-8 months ago?) asked during a relatively lengthy Fez "conversation starter" segment ( very-IIRC); "so, what is better, sugarless or regular gum?"
Hearing RB crack-up was almost as legendary as the caller during the classic "9 yo boy fight' ask how he could fight them with a chub.
i remember one time i asked some friends when it got too quiet on a car ride "what deserts can you only eat in certain seasons, and which are year round?"
it sounded like one of those fez questions, and got as much response

I definitely have used some fez "conversation starters" if at work, the lunch table all of a sudden becomes silent.
We have some FUN conversations as a result.
Thanks fezzie!

I was lucky enough to be in attendance on Friday to see the show (which I highly recommend to all... everybody involved is absolutely fantastic and it gives you a whole new respect for the show), and the look on Ron's face when Fez brought up getting shot in the knees for a million dollars was absolutely priceless. Love the conversation starters!

I enjoyed reading your behind-the-scenes comment Silks.
I luv "radio" but sometimes wish there was a bit more vid to catch moments like the one you described.
Fez's conversation starters are bloody (knees) brilliant.

From today...
"If you had to, how long do you think you could survive just eating potatoes?"
Followed by dead silence with someone cracking up way in the back room.
Priceless.
The boxer chick just said "86."

This one ends up bordering on Ron Bennington's line of the day, but it was so brilliant.
It went something like...
Fez: I don't know if you agree, maybe it's just me, but did you ever...
Ron: Fez, don't qualify everything, just say what's on your mind, we're on your side here!
Fez: OK, well did you ever...
Ron: That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard in my life!

I agree, it's always the best when it's just Ron and Fez and they are on a roll, ripping through the topics.

I love the conversation starters. Ron (I love Ron he's my hero but...) seems like he's bored with them and has moved past that stage and is just humoring Fez by letting him do them. I'm probably just a crazy drunken unemployed hayseed. Love Ron, Fez and conversation starters.
OR maybe it's a bit.

im getting caught up on my shows so i just heard the "if a retard went back to caveman times would he be able to run things?" discussion which was fuckin' hysterical, and then shortly after he followed up with "which is the most useless office supply?"
a fezzie two'fer!
"you know, he could dig a hole that would collect water for them"
