The message that was posted 2 weeks before Ghosts was released was posted on NIN.com again. And a new song call Discipline was released today, which must mean another new NIN album coming out in 2 weeks.

It's amazing how much music Reznor keeps putting out.

It amazes me that anyone over 17 still cares about NIN.

Wait a minute.. I had to put on some black eye liner and blame someone for my sorrow....
now I get it. Great stuff. Very deep and meaningful.

Ugh.

NIN =/= Marilyn Manson

Would you be a big fan if he did a cd of parody songs?

I don't get people like you. You are supposedly a musician, yet you come off as the most fucking musically ignorant person in the world when you act like Trent Reznor isn't talented or is putting out music for people under 17.

Doctor Manhattan

I'm a fan of Nine Inch Nails.

I don't get "sorrow" as a desciption of the music (or what listeners are supposed to feel). I don't think he's trying to be "deep" since the "meaning" is pretty clear (at least for the albums I have, I don't have all the NIN's stuff)

With the range of styles NIN covers and I don't see why someone wouldn't like at least some NIN. I'm glad he's putting out new stuff with lyrics. Ghosts is cool but I prefer it when Trent sings.

ChimneyFish

He's just doing the typical, hack put down that everybody who knows that Trent's one of the most innovative songwriters in years but can't be honest with themselves does. Acts like he's "goth" and all he writes about is "how depressed he is". Get a new gimmick.

Anyway, free, quality download fron nin.com

Good song.

Reznor's production deserves some recognition, even if you don't like his own music. See Niggy Tardust.

does this cd have a political message like the last one?

ChimneyFish

This is only one track.
And the last album was a $5, 36 song instrumental album.

But, since "Year Zero" was supposed to be part one of two, I would think that the next album will be along those lines.

I will always check out a NIN release. Not always "awesome" stuff front to back but he ALWAYS has at least 3-4 songs that make buying his CD well worth it.

The man can capture a feeling in music very well.

Now excuse me, I'm off to Hot Topic to get some new fishnets and chokers.

I just think that's crazy talk.

Trent progresses so much from album to album and he never seems to force the change (I'm looking directly at you, Metallica). I love all of his albums.

You get you wish with this instrumental album. Sadly, some dislike instrumental albums, for some reason.

I think his strength is in his production techniques and his overall creativity. NOT in his songs.

As good as "With Teeth" is, and is does show Trent as an awesome Songrwriter, he made his mark with creating a sound. Everyone in radio/music/industry turned their heads when they heard Pretty Hate Machine: this was new, this was electronic, but heavy as fuck. Loads of synths and sequences and nailgun snares, merged with walls of distorted guitars, vocals, and throw in a few samples under it all and at the right moments; its a cliched formula now, but he nailed it, if not plain invented it.

Ghosts takes you places. You dont need Trent telling you to Bow Down, there are angry pieces and soft soundscapes and soundtracks for your head.

And reznor was smart enough to grab Adrian Belew to spray guitar on many of the tracks; non Belewbeloids: Adrian Belew is a sort of guitar savant who played with zappa and bowie and on a few dozen albumsas guitar hero; just google the Belew discography. Yow.

Ghosts is a fantastic collection of sounds; just throw the fucker on and see what happens. Try the ambient approach. Put it on and forget its on and do something else.

Holy rant.

I just got mine. Time from link click to burning my a wife a copy was about 10 minutes. Hurray for an artist of non-independent proportions bypassing the big-label atrocity. You can only imagine that Reznor helped Saul Williams decide to market his album that way too.

This might be old news to some of you, but on May 5th, Trent Reznor released the latest Nine Inch Nails album - The Slip for free from his website. It is available in CD quality in both mp3 and m4u formats. It is also available in FLAC for you audiophiles out there.

http://theslip.nin.com/

You will have to enter your email and they will send you an activation code with which to torrent the files, but I assure you it is 100% legit and claims to be SPAM free.

Hats off to NIN for a great release and a clever advertising idea. This will get them great press coverage. On first listen it reminds me of a poor man's Tool. It is decent although not their best work IMO. That said it is a great album to listen to while imbibing in some of that Canadian sticky icky and holding down the couch for the better part of an hour. For that end I would recommend the track Corona Radiata. ((and not just because detecting corona is part of my job) not the beer, look it up)

Yes they are releasing a physical CD as well, I believe the mentality for doing this was to stick it to the record companies, and get some great publicity. Also he had mentioned something about making the majority of his money off of live performances anyways.

I am a bit confused. Why was that a "jackass statement"? Your post didn't seem to have anything to do with CT and Jivin. I think a lot of radio shows talk about music, so that isn't really a connection.

WAVE is actually what audiophiles are going to want but the album is 1.2 GB.
FLAC and M4A are just CD quality at around 260 MB each
MP3 is less than CD quality at 87 MB

I don't even have mod powers and I was able to delete the CT and Jivin portion of the thread. You know how? Because there was none.

But you might be right. We should start the same thread in every single fucking subsection of the site because EVERY fucking "radio" show talks about music.

Also, you're right. Your post about NIN's free album makes little to no sense now that it was moved from the CT and Jivin subforum into the original thread about NIN's free album.

Dude, you posted a NIN/The Slip thread in the wrong section of RF.net. He pointed out (In a non "jackassy" way) that there was already a "post Interscope Records" NIN thread and then a mod (Probably CT or Jivin since they moderate that section of the board) merged the 2 threads (Something that happens a lot here when redundant threads are opened)

He then replied to your attack at him for not knowing enough about CT and Jivin (On a Ron and Fez board, I imagine a lot of people here don't listen to their podcast) in kind and without "name calling"

Get over it.

I did not post it in the wrong thread, I posted it in the CT and Jivin section specifically for the CT and Jivin listeners and posters who like myself do not check out other parts of this forum. That said, I probably did overreact, it sucks sometimes because anybody who just flips through using the new posts button will often post in the CT and Jivin section without realizing it, often adding irrelevant material. It gets a little tiresome after a while, so I guess my built up frustration was taken out on Underdog. I do only use this forum for the CT and Jivin section and do not look at any other threads, so I did miss the other NIN thread, or more specifically didn't realize there even was a section for it. Sorry to all involved for my outburst, I will retreat back the CT and Jivin forum.

By that logic all other threads on RF.net should be moved to the CT&J section in case the people you mention happen to be interested in those topics (Wrestling, Games And Sports, Electronics, O&A, The Hideout, Paul O, Ron and Fez, Current events, Health and Fitness, etc.)

I think the CT&J section is for discussing CT&J.
