You definitely have a point, but remember this drama revolves around the love of his life.
This is relatively new territory for them. And everything becomes tougher to deal with when it is affecting someone you love, and not pointed squarely in your own direction.

Sure Opie was mad, but Opie's insistence to use the now tired and old story to make it a "moment" was phony. Ant knows the audience has heard all this before, the story really detailed nothing new, and decided to try and make it entertaining. Opie's overreacting and thinks everyone cares as much as he does.

I'm not talking about the Opie v. Ant fight, I'm talking about the new wrinkles involved with this new article coming out.

Yeah, I agree - Opie was definitely out of line. But it is also similar to the story of the Scorpion and the Frog... The scorpion stings because it is his nature. Opie blows up unreasonably in some instances because it is his nature.

Of course we don't, but unless you are in the business performing in a live soap opera leave the personal lives shit off the air or else jokes will be made. No double standards. Work rage gets them ratings and work rage gets us fired. Radio Gold. This situation just seems too similar to the buzz Stern was able get off the Artie incident last week.

just listened to it again, anythony made 2 cheese related jokes and then 2 more comments that were in support of opie and ragging on chauncey but they werent "im fired up and taht chauncey is a fucker!", they were jokey "chauncey is a lame douche" comments, there was nothing to get all upset about.

and its actually ant that escalates the argument and gets riled up first, and its obvious that he got pissed because he thinks opie is handling this the wrong way (i agree), and because opie had just started throwing shit around and hit jimmy with something (accidentaly) off the air.

its mostly because of how opie is handling it that ant is mad imo, opie basically said on the air today "i just did a shitty interview with adam because of this, my girl is a mess over it, my life is a living hell, my friends and family and girl's family are all a mess over it, im fighting with anthony and breaking shit over it", i would guess ant thinks its not even worth much comment except to goof on it because its so ridiculous, and giving it airtime like this and admitting how much of an effect it is having on you is just playing into that douche chauncey's hands.

and dont underestimate the effect of bad ratings and then a horribly boring interview taking place right before this incident.

This is by no means an attack on you Tom (or Speedy), but I really HATE it when they say this or that is "Great Radio." I can't stand being TOLD how I am supposed to think or feel, and something like "great radio" can be completely subjective.

There are many things that Opie (et al) say are "great radio" or "radio gold" that I think sucked or I didn't like. They should be listening to their fans to determine what great radio is, not declaring it to be so to make it so.

It is a major pet peeve of mine. Don't try to tell me what I like or what is good; let fan feedback determine what is good and what is not, and if there are a substantial number of fans that don't like it, that means it isn't "gold."

O&A use the terms "great radio" and "radio gold" far too frequently and too loosely IMO.

Of course Matt, what is gold to some will no doubt be shit to others, regardless of what the hosts say.

My point was O&A, or any radio show hosts, are going to approach their show with the mindset that they know what they're doing, and believe that they can produce "great radio" on a daily basis. If a show didn't believe that, they have no business stepping into a studio.

Now, whether or not it winds up being "great radio" is a different story.

Probably not. Depends on what it was, I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember them talking about Stern blowing off his producer's father's funeral because his chick hurt her ankle. But that was something Stern brought up and addressed on his own show. This is the publisher of some bullshit rag with a vendetta printing what everyone involved (Op, Bam, etc.) has called an outright lie. Not the same, as I see it.

I think if it was something like this (e.g., a rumor about Beth in a sex tape), they wouldn't have much to say about it, the way Stern hasn't had much to say about Opie's situation. There's really nowhere for a "rival" show to go with it.

But that's not even the point. I was just confused as to what "false rumors" O&A have exploited in the past which they used against their rivals.

I totally agree. Yes, they had Crazy Cabbie in studio... only because he had an alledged Stern sex tape. Any consideration for whether it was true or not and whether or who it might involve? At the time they could care less. Does that equate to Lindsay being brought into this? In some ways, yes... but the fact that O&A have always taken their hatred for Stern to an extreme was best demonstrated when they were all over Stern's daughter alledged OD at the Jingle Bash. Again, what right did they have to make that public. I can now see why they had a gag order.... wouldn't Opie want this to just go away like it never happened? Certainly he would since it hurts someone he cares for.

So why was it OK for them to run with the alleged Stern sex tape when it was never proven to be confirmed? Why not check the story to see if it was true before bringing in an absolute loser (cabbie) to talk about it? Why was it OK to air Stern's personal problem with his daughter, which affects his daughter and wife who were likely hurt by the unnecessary exposure?

I am in no way a huge Stern fan but these examples are the mose comparable to what Opie and his g/f are going through.

They love to poke fun and run with alledged stories over the years (Stern, Tom Leykus) when it involved others, regardless of whether it hurt others. Now that Opie and his g/f are involved it is taboo?

This has always been my problem with O&A. The hypocracy.

But to their credit, I did listen to that segment, which is the only time I have listened in so damn long, even though I listened to only that segment. Now that I listened to that tirade, I can go back and not listen again.

A lot of what you're saying is true, but the Cabbie sex tape was a silly thing that was allegedly done IN STUDIO and involved Howard. Therefore, it was a celebrity's dopey move if it ever, in fact, existed. Emily Stern, however, was not a celebrity and that was an unfair move. Leykis was knowledge that was in the public domain and was widely known before they discussed it.

I find it very entertaining that O&A always criticize listeners that take things personally... actually taunt some callers and say "what's wrong?... hit too close to home?"

he still does alot of messed up shit and teaches how to survive in the wild...really i dont give a shit if he takes a break and stays in a nice hotel

The whole "controversy" pissed me off at first, but since then I have adopted Raamone's viewpoint - it's still a good show and he does a tone of goofed up stuff.

It is ultimately entertainment and I enjoy it for the survival tips, not to watch some poor bastard suffer in the wilderness. Hell, if I was entertained by people suffering in the elements I could spend my day watching homelss people.

It's about the knowledge, not necessarily how the guy spends his nights.

I like Les Stroud from Survivorman much more. Seems more realistic and genuine.

I agree, but I just can't watch him for some reason.

Oh I'll still watch the show, but it's just not the same for me.

There is so much editing and unreal aspects to all reality shows that if you don't like Survivorman because of his staying in hotels, you should pretty much give up on all of those shows.

My Dad says the same thing. He says it stresses him out too much.

I like Les Stroud too - he has a really unique filming style since he is one man running a bunch of remote cameras. However, he jsut doesn't have the "panache" that Bear has. Maybe it's just his British accent...

did they just say they're having a "baby throwing contest"?

Anthony talking about politics is almost as douche chilling as when he talks about music....

I liked when they were about to kill each other in a heated political fight then they saw small children tossed dangerously in the air on TV and they instantly stopped, paused, and united in laughter at child abuse. It was great.

they get very middle aged and suburban when they discuss music, and tend to get a little anti-intellectual when it comes to most pop culture (but that might be more to appeal to a broader base)

i love them and listen everyday, but they come off having shit for taste

I agree they are extremely entertaining day in and day out.... This kinda show when they just have a Bill Burr and Nick DiPallo just shooting the shit are the best

Jimmy's comment about Ted Kennedy not liking guns made so much sense, and I've never even thought about it before. And it was hilarious.

Teddy Roosevelt was the youngest Republican president (early 40s). In fact, he was the youngest president overall (although he wasn't voted in).
