Dunno if this is the right place but, whatever...
Can anyone help me out on this one?
There are different languages and alphabets and characters all over the world..why is it then that numbers are all the same now? I know about the roman numerals, so they had to be different at some time. Is it just a standardization thing?

The Arabs control all the oil. They might as well control the numbers, too.

EDIT: I just did a search and found something I didn't know. Though they are called Arabic numerals, they were actually created in India.

it comes down to the fact that it has been on the air for too long. in the beginning Num3rs was well written and a pretty good show. now, unfortunately every episode seems the same. i suppose it has 'jumped the shark'

actually, they're not:

Numerals in different languages (http://www.omniglot.com/language/numerals.htm)

with ever-increasing globalization, "1-2-3" may eventually become the dominant standard, but there's plenty of other ways to represent numbers.

math is the universal language.
1 + 1 will always equal 2, even in canada.

Both Chinese and Japanese have characters for numbers not Arabic numerals. I can't say for sure but I bet there are tons of languages out there that don't use our numeral system to represent numbers.

Arabic numbers are the only thing I picked up from my time in the Middle East.

Thanks, I was wondering because I was looking at a chinese paper and all the numbers were anglicised.

It's easier to keep the head clean that way (less bacteria).
