LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Things have never been so murky 10 days before the networks preview their wares for advertisers during the annual "upfront" week.

With most pilots yet to be delivered to the networks because of delays stemming from the 100-day writers strike, the horse race for slots on the broadcast schedules remains wide open.

One virtual certainty is that Fox will be launching its first animated comedy -- or comedies -- in three years. "Cleveland," a spinoff of "Family Guy," is expected to get on the air with a 13-episode order. Staffers are being hired for the show, which focuses on the Griffins' henpecked neighbor.

Really? A CLEVELAND show. Family Guy is not even good enough to stay on the air. American Dad is decent, but why a show, based on Cleveland.

No, it's cool Fox. Cancel Arrested Development, but give this the go ahead. Great fucking idea.

I actually like American Dad a lot. If you watch it, they have really good writing, and some really funny storylines. I won't say I don't laugh at Family Guy, cause I do. But it's the cartoon equivilent of watching someone get kicked in the dick for 30 minutes. It just get's tiresome with the references and self-awaredness. It's..........lazy. That's the perfect word. It's fucking lazy.
I will say when I used to smoke pot all the time, I'd watch the shit out of it.

Same here, only I think I was already sick of it before I graduated. Nothing kills my enjoyment of something quicker than hearing people quote the shit of it. I guess Fox has decided to go ahead and trust Seth McFarlane with their entire Sunday lineup. Can someone remind me why I own a TV?

Family Guy makes me chuckle on occasion though lately it's just gotten preachy and pretentious. The spin off looks awful. I'll watch the first episode, but that'll be it. None of the clip made me laugh at all.

Slight variations of the following across the board: Fat, stupid oaf of a husband, the relatively level headed mom, the opinionated older daughter, the mess of a younger son and then the sassy baby. AD rocked the boat by substituting an alien for the baby.

Granted, families are a sitcome tradition, live or animated, but this is a pretty specific model/dynamic we've seen copied 3 times over now by the same guy.

i always thought the alien was the Brian character on AD. Maybe the german fish is the stewie on that show? I think I saw a dog on the Cleveland show trailer...i'm not sure if it talks or not (but there is talking bears...they can be Brian-esque).

The dog on FG is addition to the family model on FG and basically is just there as McFarlane himself so he can pound you on top of the head with the "jokes" by basically repeating them or pointing them out like "HEY!!! LOOK!!! HUMOR!!!" The alien on AD isn't playing the straight man like the dog and is basically a retarded Stewie.

Same here. Most of the stuff he's apparently into pop culture-wise are things I recognize or like myself, but there's just something so fucking lazy about it all. There's no jokes: it's like simply referring to these things or pointing them out is the joke.

I tried to watch AD, well the dad had the goldfish bowl.
The goldfish started talking. The dad started drinking the water from it.
Then a quick change to the Paul Lynde sounding alien's room.

I didn't think plots would matter much with this sort of show.
Wow man what a cluster-F!

Maybe I should have hit the info button on my remote. But I couldn't hit it fast enough to other channels.
