As I understand it Cinco de Mayo is pretty much a made-up holiday for us Gringos (other than in Puebla). So you beat the French in a battle - who hasn't?

I made an equation this morning watching news footage of Cinco parades past. They dress up in mayan costumes to celebrate a battle fought by mexicans in the 1800's. Wouldn't that be like white americans dressing up as medieval knights to celebrate one of those obscure battles against the french along the canadian border? I can only assume that Corona and Cuervo created this to sell their sub-par booze. But who am I to judge? I like to toss one back now and then.
