View Full Version : Are you selective with your change?

I got some change earlier today and in the change I got two of the brand new 5's. Not even folded yet!
So I have the 2 spankin' new 5's and an old 20 in my wallet, and I went to McDonalds and ordered food and it came out to be $4.99, but I did not care for the counter woman and chose to give her the old 20 instead because I did not feel she was "worthy" of the new 5
Does anyone else do this or something similar? Like, if the counter girl was a cutey or nice, I'd throw her the new 5 no problem....

I'm guilty of this. I had come back from overseas and exchanged my money and got a bunch of new, crisp, fresh from the factory $50 bills. I decided to squirrel those away like a hermit for a reason I can't come up with. Your not alone :)

One time, I was working at this shitbag hotel. This guy paid in all $2 bills. I traded them with some fives in my wallet and had a stack of them for a long time. Didn't spend them for months.

For me it's more of how much I have in my wallet. If I four 5s and a 10 and something costs between 6-10 dollars, I'll use two of the fives instead of the 10.

Actually, it sounds like you decided McDonald's wasn't worthy of your new 5, unless she was selling you food on the sly.
I'm only selective when I'm in a hurry. Everytime I give a new $20 bill out, it's examined to make sure it's not fake.
I must look shady.

I spend my newest change first. If I get nickels or quarters from the 50's or 60's, I will keep them in my car ashtray and actually search for newer ones, or pay with pennies (not the wheat pennies).

I make it my goal to only have good looking bills, and as few small denominations as possible. BTW... All of the new bills (especially the 5's) are terrible. I get new 5's that look like they're 10 years old. If you feel them, they are thinner than the older bills.

i prefer bigger denominations b/c it keeps me in check....i wont break a 20 or 50 for a one dollar impulse buy.....
and almost all my loose change invariably gets left with the cashier.

I would rather give 75 pennies just to hold onto those 3 quarters.
Quarters always get spent last.
Try to get rid of as many pennies and nickles as you can.

Quarters always get spent last.
I think that's the real reason why I have a state quarter collection.

I throw pennies away.
They smell.

i just make sure all my bills are in order in my wallet from highest value to lowest and they have to be all facing the same way and right side up
i hate when a store slips me a crappy bill... it's like playing tag and they just tagged me so now i start planning who I'm gonna tag and they'll get that shitty bill next

I'm the same way. Cashiers love me.
I hate change and try to convert everything over to quarters. Then the quarters get converted to bills.
For the bills, shitty older bills get spent first. I developed this habit after getting stuck at Metro Fare Card centers because they wouldn't accept the worn-out bills.

As a general rule, I don't carry cash.
In those rare instances when I do pay with cash, the non-quarter change ends up in my piggy bank and the quarters end up in a separate pouch. (This is residual from college and my early apartment-dwelling days and dealing with coin-op laundry machines. Saving quarters was so much easier than dealing with ATM fees!)
I throw pennies away.
They smell.
i don't throw them away, i stack them up and leave them all over, benches in malls, window ledges of store fronts, store shelves

When ever i buy stuff I save the change in a cup in my dashboard except the pennies I drop them in the take/give a penny thing at the checkout. After the mug gets full I bring it inside and have my kids roll the coins. Who ever rolls the cash get to put it in their bank account.

You people are nuts. When I carry cash, there's no organizing or hoarding. Change goes into a jar at the end of the day.
