Thanks in advance

I'm not sure where to get it, but I first heard it in this 80s DOS game called "Digger". Not the NES game.

It was actually a hit song in the 70's. It is called "Popcorn" by a group called "Hot Butter". I wouldn't be surprised if I have the 45 in my basement somewhere.

I don't seem to be able to embed youtube videos, but you can check it out here

The Popcorn song has been around since I was a little kid. I thought everyone knew that song!I remember playing an old computer game on commedor 64 called "Spare Change" where you had to pick up change before the bad guys can get to it before you. They had a popcorn machine that you can put a coin in that would distract the bad guys. It would start to play the popcorn song while they danced.

If you were old enough to have heard it played on AM radio two or three times a day, you definitely WOULDN'T want it as a ringtone.

I think this was like the running theme song for movie called Drowning Mona, with danny devito and casey affleck........good movie, infectious song. You could probably get a really good version from the soundtrack.

wow..good ear!

Not that good, or I would have known the actual piece of music! I was sitting there listening to the sound drop thinking, "Huh...that's from some game I used to play...what is it??" All I could remember was it had something to do with this little guy burrowing around and then you had to murder your pursuers by digging under bags of money that would fall on them. If they fell on you you'd die. And it wasn't Dig Dug.

Despite all these solid "digging" clues I came up with, it took me all afternoon to remember that the name of that stupid game was "Digger". Tough one!

You know what I just realized? Popcorn was covered recently by Crazy Frog. You know what else they covered? Axel F which is the specialty of Crazed. And to make things more ironic, there was Ron standing beside a phone booth smoking a cigar.

The version they use on the show is the beginning of Aphex Twin's "hot buttered popcorn."

Seriously, I have not heard 'Popcorn' in years. I had it as a lark somewhere in my cd collection, but other than that I never heard it. Twice now, I have heard it in Starbucks, and once on the radio. Thats just too crazy. Has anyone else had recent 'Popcorn' sightings?

I've heard it on Ron and Fez several times.

It's catchy.

It's possible. But it's more likely that you're just noticing it now. Kind of like when you meat a girl who has a certain color and make of car, then you start seeing that color and make of car everywhere you go.

methinks you are spot-on .....including 'meat'ing a girl 8-)

i wonder if there is an accessible list of top song royalties?..

maybe Mooch would be the guru for this, but i'm guessing that it has been a continental european standard for decades of ads, intros, drops etc...

whatever the case, RB has me sillygoose head-shake dancin to the tune each time.

That song takes me back to the 70s at the Roll-Arena roller skating rink in eastern Ohio. I don't think I have heard it in 20 years until Mr B started the movie season. I still haven't heard it beyond the show, but I agree with the 'noticing it' theory. You are just more aware.

With all due respect to Ronnie Two Bucks, I do believe that it may have been the Crazy Frog that brought the Popcorn song back. My kids have a Crazy Frog CD that they like to torture me on long car trips with. I've been listening to the Crazy Frog version of Popcorn for over a year now, but it seems like a thousand years.

What is the name of the song that plays during this bit? I just remember it from the video game Pengo.

Also, either I'm missing it or Ron isn't talking about the movies he's supposed to be talking about other than a quck comment and a que for the Popcorn Theme.

the song is actually called Popcorn by Hot Butter. 70's instrumental sythesizer stuff.

I think he's playing because it's a great way to start a conversation. Like ESD's Board Gossip.
