View Full Version : The NJ 101.5 discussion

This is a discussion that I would expect from Dennis and Judi, not R&F.
There is North, Central, and South Jersey.
North is 201 and 973 area codes.
Central is 908 and 732.
South is 609 and 856.
The dividing line is 295.
End of story.
Is it really that slow of a news day?

Nope, just need a minor issue to set Dave off.
I think my biggest issue was Lilly trying to be a Ron-like agitator in the discussion. Anyone who lives in Jersey for a set amount of time knows and understands that there's a North, Central, and South Jersey. If Pitzy was in the discussion, THEN, I can understand. Union really is on the border of North and Central Jersey.
When she said 732 is South Jersey, I immediately rolled my eyes.

Yeah, 908 is debatable, but a good portion of 908 is central. Lilly said that 732 is South Jersey - which is complete insanity.
(And 908 was used for all of Central Jersey after the 201/908 split in the early 90's. 732 spun off from 908 a few years later)

Who the fuck cares? Besides, everyone knows that aside from Atlantic city and the actual sand parts of the beach, everything south of Old Bridge is just dogshit anyway.
And somehow, we also need to figure out how to get like Warren and that shit out there out of the state. Thats basically just east Penn

*cough* 195 *cough*
Not 295...295 drives straight down the South jersey side from Exit 8a near the turnpike.
195 cut right across from Exit 98 (Pt. Pleasent/Spring Lake) on the parkway all the way to Exit 7a (Great Adventure/Six Flags) on the turnpike and beyond to Trenton.
So would you say Route 78 cuts North NJ from Central?
If so that would make Kenilworth and Union Central NJ. (Which I think it is)
I would not say area codes as much as maybe Counties and towns.
Because you could have one area code in a county that might spill from Central to South NJ.
And CTC...yes this is needed. Might as well get the debate out of the way.

You missed a few that they split off in North and Central Jersey:
http://www.whitepages.com/static/common/maps/NJ.gif
Of course, they're pretty recent splits, but they're splits nonetheless.
p.s. - those dividing lines look less to me like 195 or 295 than they do rivers.

How about follow the title of this thread... if you get 101.5 on 101.5, then you're north. If you get it on 97.3, you're in south.
Anyone who thinks South Jersey starts when you get past the Staten Island bridges is a fucking moron. That's like saying the South in the US starts right below Maine.

Eh... not so much. The tower for 101.5 is located in Lawrenceville, which is in 609. The 97.3 frequency is mainly for way the fuck bumfuck South Jersey, the areas that Dave was talking about being full of rednecks.

A little off-topic but has anyone been to Seaside Heights lately, that place is becoming Asbury South very quickly.

One of my best friends from college grew up in Mt Holly. The summer after our Freshman year me & my 5 closest friends took a weekend here & there to all visit each other at home since we were all from different areas of NY & NJ.
During our venture to Mt. Holly my buddy's father drove us around to see the sites since the area has a rich history going back to colonial times. We saw one of the first fire houses in the state, a few other Revolutionary War historical sites, then he showed us "the new traffic light," with great excitement. I shit you not, it was 1993 & the town was getting its' 3rd traffic light.
Add that to the plentiful presence of homemade fire water/moonshine in mayonnaise jars at the local block party & I do believe that qualifies it as South Jersey more so than geography ever could.

Why doesn't Dave come down to Atlantic City and Pleasantville and call people there rednecks. No white people live in these areas anymore. Its all black and spanish When they did live there it was Italians and jews. The most famous beaches of nj are in south jersey A.C Ocean City and Wildwood. The most per capita italian place in the country is hammonton,nj in south jersey. South jersey starts at long beach island where some philly and some ny people go the beac hi. No philly people go to seaside its all tommy cheeseballs. From trenton down south through burlington county to as east as lbi is south jersey anything above it is north/central jersey. I go to school in central jersey and i got lost one night in the woods of like east brunswick and that's not considered rural

No, all the Jersey people were doing the speed limit and just staying in the left lane.
I remember I almost got in an accident because I tried passing one of the douchebags on the right, because he wouldn't move. Only he decided to speed up because he didn't want me in front of him going faster than him for whatever reason. And I almost rearended a truck at 110mph.

I'm going to speculate that those were transplants from Staten Island or PA. A native laughs at the speed limit - HAH! HAH, I say! - and climbs up your ass until you get the message and move over.
Seriously, it's my pet peeve. I HATE people who grab that left lane like they own it and refuse to move over. I try to practice what I preach and stay in the right lane as much as possible (it's almost always wide open these days).
