LOS ANGELES - California state lawmakers are considering an unusual idea to solve the state's huge budget shortfall: Tax pornography.

The idea was proposed by a state assemblyman, and would impose a 25 percent tax on the production and sales of pornographic videos -- the vast majority of which are made in southern California.

It's a law of economics that if you want to discourage an activity, you raise the taxes on it.

I guess they want us to stop jerking off.

Further proof that many of the people attracted to Politics are people who stay up all nights worried that somebody, somewhere is having a good time.

It's gonna cost $27.50 to jerk off, smoke a cigarette and have a beer..That comes out to like $9,000 a week..It'll be cheaper to get hookers with Charlie Sheen..

Now I have to buy all my porn on an Indian reservation? That's gonna be gross...

A "sin tax" indeed. Plus they'll probably make you do three Hail Marys after you pay it.

What this will lead to is porn movies expanding the story and plot in an effort to label their films as legitimate art. Then, California will create a commission to oversee and judge what constitutes pornography, which will probably lead to a lawsuit by the porn industry to argue that there is no definition to "porn". In the end, this tax won't be worth the benefits.

They can tax the $0.00 I spend on porn annually all they want.

Exactly. Plus there must be some "equal protection" aspect to this. "R" rated movies get taxed at a lower rate than "X" rated? Doesn't sound constitutional.

If it is constitutional, the porn producers will move to Nevada or another state. Or they'll be filmed in California but be distributed from another state. Or the legitimate ones that actually do pay taxes will just go underground and not pay any taxes.

This is a really bad idea.

I'm sick of politicians increasing taxes by bullshit "sin" taxes and raising fees for public services. If you need more money, man up, explain to us why you need more money and can't cut spending to compensate, and raise the income and/or sales tax. Don't keep pulling this shit.

I recommend Big Chiefs Vol. 3 starring Poke-ahonnis.

That's a good line, and an even better point.

If you are actually paying for porn, then you should be subject to a Stupidity Tax.

These politicians seem to have some sort of fetish with taxing those of us who like to have a little fun. To put it simply - our wallets are getting raped. What if they dont cum up with the taxes? Will the evader face the wrath of the penile system? These shmucks will try to stroke every last penny out of us, and they wont stop until we are empty. While I personally don't blow my load on this kind of stuff, I definitely empathize with those effected, and I can understand why this story is hard to swallow. To sum it up, we are getting shafted by the long black cock of the law.
