Wasn't there some issue where they were fans of the O&A show, and then something happened where they kept mentioning the Spaz/Melinda incident, and the show stopped pluging them and kept making vague allusions to 'fansites that weren't fansites.' or something like that.

Any truth to any of that?

After the boards had been around for a while, it was just a matter of time before the members caught on to O and A and they're disdain for messageboard people. Mentioning Spaz was a surefire way to push Anthony and Melinda's buttons on oa.com. What got opieanthony.net in trouble was when they decided to do an April Fool's Day prank where they broke the news that Anthony had another heart attack. Anthony flipped out, one, I don't think he wanted to acknowledge publicly that he had his first heart attack, and second, somehow he tried to imply that his friend and family actually thought he had a heart attack, that somehow they all go to opieanthony.net for the latest breaking news on Anthony's life.

Long story short -
Opieanthony.net was started as a fan board just before Opieanthony.com imploded. Like .com, it was started by people with a common interest, but you weren't required to be fans. OA.net took over syndication underground (others did a lot of work, but oa.net was the others like sblueman weren't running a site), started reviews, etc to keep Opie and anthony alive. Opie and Anthony returned to air waves, and after a while, some felt that the XM show wasn't as good as the old WNEW show. The staff felt that the people had just as much a right to say negative things as positive things, and some did- and there were also O&A supporters who defended the show.

Well, It seems that for whatever reason O&A aren't too fond of negative criticism. Yes, some was over the bounds and unfair, but then again, O&A were often also unfair and over bounds with their humor. Anyway, Opie then made his famous "eat your own" comment.

Things went on. Many at OA.net had always liked Ron and fez, following them from WNEW to WFJK via underground - well, once R&F returned to XM, the number of people who found Ron and Fez to be more "honest" increased. A second url was added- ronandfezshow.net for some people to indicate they still enjoyed R&F even if they didn't listen to O&A.

Well, we now approach one April Fools day. In the spirit of Mayor Menino, someone on Opieanthony.net posted a joke thread about Anthony getting a heart attack. This did not go over well, as somehow Anthony thought some of his family might read OA.net and think it was real (I don't understand that logic). That led to the famous "Asscaves and black cocks threat", which never came to fruition.

As I started by saying, Opieanthony.net was originally started by people who enjoyed Opie and Anthony. As many of its members got more annoyed at that show, less people posted there. It became a place that was fun for some of us, but wasn't very active.

That leads us to the end. Basically the Administrator felt that given the lack of posting, etc, it was no longer worth his while to "fight the fight". He also has been incredibly busy in Real Life.

While this decision saddens me, I respect it.
