Usually, I don't bitch about lists, but this list has to be the worst I have ever seen in my life. There is no way in hell that Cameron Diaz is a better actress or even a bigger star than Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, Sigourney Weaver, Julia Roberts or over half of the women she's ranked above.
The fact that she's number seven throws the rest of the list in complete doubt.
Who are these "critics" who ranked these actresses?

It's because they counted cartoons...Shrek and Shrek 2 gave her 3 movies that were 3.5-4 stars with just about every critic. The critics didn't rank the actreses, they compiled reviews of their movies, so these are the best reviewed actresses.

How the hell does Julia Roberts rank above Laura Linney, Bette Davis and Frances McDormand? And Cameron Diaz above all of them? This list is bullshit.

Not even that. These are the actresses that are in the best reviewed movies.
And that's why the list is ridiculous.

why is it ridiculous, given that it's clearly laid out that that's what the list is?
on average, these actresses are in the best rated movies. whether you agree or disagree with how the movies are rated, what's the harm in asking and answering that question?

They think Kate Winslet is a better actress that Michelle Pfeiffer? She was in Dangerous Minds for christ sakes. Sheesh.

This list is worst than the songwriters list that they did last week.
But on this topic, I have to mention my complete astonishment with the actress who played Edith Piaf in La vie en Rose, Marion Cottillard. She blew me away, the most deserved Oscar I have ever seen.

the list doesn't have anything to do with who's a better actress.

The ridiculousness is fairly evident, as apparent to almost everyone who posted on this thread. It's ridiculous because the title of the list is not "Actresses In The Best Rated Movies."
The title is "Top Actresses of All Time," and that's not what this list is. And as said before, the fact that it is an invalid measurement is evident in that, according to this list, Cameron Diaz is considered a better actress than numerous Oscar winners, and Cameron is in no way someone who is that good of an actress.

yes, poorly titled, i'll give you that. still, it's not saying any actress is better than any other, just that they were in better movies.

By ranking the women in a list called "Top Actresses of All Time," that is what they are saying.
The very "poor title" is why it's ridiculous.

and it's not even based on Better movies. Its "overall actor score" who's giving the numbers?
Meryl Streep is #1, yet none of her movies are on Top on their MOVIES OF ALL TIME LIST (http://movies.toptenreviews.com/list_all_time.htm)
The list is bogus. It probably made by someone who just wants to flaunt how much they love Meryl Streep.

It's more than one title as well. The page comes upon as "Top 50 All-Time Female Actors."
The page also says "Actor Reviews, All-Time Female."
So with these titles, the list is saying that these are the top female actresses all-time, based on "actor reviews." So this is more than just a "poor title."

Sigorney Weaver kicked as for awhile but as for now I'd consider Julianna Moore pretty strong and still holds top billing in Hollywood. As for "acting" I think Kate Blanchet is making the best choices in Hollywood today.

Cate Blanchett is a great actress she has a face that can look like so many different parts but still is recognizable as her. She's a real chameleon. I mean who else could play Elizabeth I and Bob Dylan?
Gary Oldman has exactly the same quality.
Needless to say knowing either one of them is in a movie is usually a pretty good sign that it's decent if not great.

this list is fucking atrocious
cameron diaz shouldn't even be on this list, nor should meg ryan, drew barrymore, and julianne moore should be near the bottom.
grace kelly, ava gardner, shelley winters, and my personal favorite, Lauren Bacall
