View Full Version : DNC Farce
This whole broadcast on CNN is complete and utter bullshit.
Half a vote? Stupid. Either don't count them, or count them.

I feel like I'm watching a wrestling match.
They should really boot the idiots from the audience screaming shit out and interrupting the speakers. It's embarrassing to me as a Democrat.
I fully expect someone to rush out and smash a chair over someones head.
In the end they settled on what the Republicans did almost exactly. Except they did it before the election and cut off the possibility of some smarmy cunt running around with false outrage for months.
It was just stupid.
And I don't understand the Michigan decision at all. How the hell does Obama end up with 59 delegates when he wasn't on the ballot.
Send them as uncommitted.

I turned it off this morning when Levin was spouting off about how Democrats shouldn't allow Iowa and New Hampshire priveledged status by being one and two every primary season.
And now that a decision was made (http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/05/31/dnc-panel-approves-delegate-deal-on-michigan-and-florida-primaries-despite-objections/) it just looks like a bunch of kids saying "me first" while waiting in line for the roller coaster.
It was just stupid.

Because NONE OF THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO COUNT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
They are cleaning up their own pile of shit. You can't go on about counting everyones vote and then ignore every single supporter of one candidate in a state.
This was the worst possible decision they could have made.
If they decide to honor the results...ok...Hillary probably makes a scene at the convention, but Obama ultimately wins.
If they don't honor the results...it's over and Obama wins.
The .5 split, though, and the awarding of Obama delegates in Michigan when he wasn't on the ballot will just deepen the rift between Obama and Clinton supporters.
It's a completely ridiculous 'compromise.'
And they just gave Hillary the grounds she needs to burn Denver down to the ground.
Biggest winner of today: John McCain.

Then you hold a new primary.
But saying "Obama would have gotten this %" so we're giving him this amount was just stupid...those Clinton supporters will be screaming for the next month that they cheated her, and it'll deepen the rift.
I want to make it clear, I'm an Obama supporter...but this was a bad move.

Agreed. The DNC should have stood its ground and said "Stay at Home" to Florida and Michigan.

The Clinton campaign supported the Florida compromise. She can try to make a scene about Michigan but that "Michigan doesn't count" quote will haunt her. Before the election, when something more constructive could have been done, she didn't give a shit, confident that she wouldn't need it. She only opened her mouth when she needed it. And her representative today and one of her top strategists was on the committee that voted to strip these delegates in the first place. It was maddening to listen to Ickes whine about counting all the votes when he bore responsibility for this in the first place.
Besides the fact that this is what the Republicans did already an no one had a problem with it when they did it. It's not stupid, its exactly what the rules called for. What was stupid was stripping all the delegates in the first place.
And the most important point: The eventual nominee has the right to restore full voting rights anyway.
Then you hold a new primary.
Do you want to pay for it? Because the states sure as hell weren't interested.
What was stupid was stripping all the delegates in the first place.
Agreed, on that.

It's a moot point anyway. Ickes is going to appeal it.

I'd love to see that.
Ickes: They should be seated completely,
Ickes: then why did you strip them in first place?
Ickes: I don't know, I didn't think we'd need them?
Ickes: That was stupid, and now you look like a jackass.
Ickes: I agree.

Why exactly did they decide not to include Michigan and Florida in the first place? Was it Howard Dean's decision or did the party as a whole make the decision?

No one could tell me that Hillary Clinton gives a shit about the democrats being in the white house in 2009.
1. Even if things broke her way with Michigan and Florida, she'd still probably lose.
2. She supported this in the beginning, but because it broke against her she's going against it.
3. If she didn't make a big deal about Florida and Michigan, this wouldn't be a story. She has given the republicans great ammunition to hit Obama with in those two states.
4. The longer she keeps Obama from campaigning against McCain, the longer McCain goes unchallenged (though, Obama is wisely acting like the candidate now).
Everyone is seeing this and to be honest, the superdelegates supporting Hillary don't care about their party either for not rallying around Obama and ending this farce.

It was the decision of the very people holding the meeting today. They did it because Florida and Michigan moved their primaries to before February 5th, against party rules, and that infringed upon that massive pandering both parties inexplicably do towards Iowa and New Hampshire.

To give some context, former Michigan Governor Blanchard is a Clinton supporter. Governor Blanchard was playing every stupid smooth card a bad politician can think of including, "It's my mom's birthday".
Donna Brazile, a woman I have no lost love for, then jams it down his throat.

After that cluster-f I don't see how anyone can be a major party voter. Crap like this is why nothing gets done. We pay politicians money to basically have debate club in DC. F them all.
