it was hyped like it was gonna be 'The Gone With the Wind' of Wolfe adaptations and the history of NASA, and when released people ignored it, or thought, mistakenly it was timed to help John Glenn's political career, to the point that either Time or Newsweek had a cover with Ed Harris suited up as John Glenn and the Q: 'Can a Movie make a President?'
It didnt coz no one went to see it.
Now on DVD its huge. If you look at the cast, it was pretty epic.

The Wizard of Oz had 5 directors, it's amazing it even got finished by a studio!!!
& there was no such thing as a midnite movie in 1971 when Harold & Maude came out, that was a phenomenon about 4 or 5 years later!!!

Yeah, well, that's like your opinion, man.
obviously cable TV and DVD's have had a huge impact on movies;
cable needed/needs movies to fill time slots, and Vhs/dvd rental became huge way for people to spend weekends, etc.
i never liked big lebowski
Really? Why is that?
i never liked big lebowski
I'd probably love it, but I've never had a chance/occasion to see it all (just pieces)
