i got my new job through a temp to hire agency...their policy is that i have to stay with the temp agency for 90 days...then the company is able to offically hire me...well i have been here over 3 months

now i know they want to keep me (my boss really likes me, already have my office with the name on the door, company clothes and material) but my boss is too busy and had no idea how long i've been here

i am looking forward to the raise and benefits i will get with the company...but how do i approach this?

do i just walk up and inform them that i am eligible to be officially hired? for some reason i feel this may come off as rude or cocky...

do i just wait it out until they realize i can be hired?

dont know what to do on this one...

Well, it seems like you must address it. If you're interested in staying, then I would begin the conversation like that. Maybe follow up with you're only bringing this to his attention so that you can either be reassured that your position is permanent or plan accordingly. It's only fair that you be given that assurance, so you shouldn't feel bad about bringing it up. Could go something along the lines of, "wow, did you realize that I have been here three months already? I was just curious about something..."

Good luck!

Yes, I would bring it up, gracefully. You can't assume that the boss is paying attention to how long you've been there, and I don't think anyone would fault you for wanting to lock in a job, and get better pay and benefits. That's just looking out for yourself, which you can't be blamed for.

A few things:

I got "in" to my company by temping. They promised me three months then a permanent position. However, it never materialized and I was there for six months before I got a a permanent job within the company on my own.

I hated my temp position (like the perm position) because my boss was awful and I was only staying there to get money for the wedding. If nothing had materialized by the time we got married, I was going to quit and look elsewhere. So the idea of bringing up making my temp position permanent never entered my head.

(I don't know if my situation was unique - I didn't want to stay where I was working but I did want to stay with the company... so I started looking at internal postings and made my move.)

I would first bring it up with the temping agency and see what they say. Then bring it up with your boss if you don't get any action with the temp agency.

i'll bet the boss watching the 'officially he should be hired but the guy keeps coming in day after day and never says a word, just remains a temp' guy really is thinking 'hire!'

Just be respectfully honest. True honesty should really be a self-help religion. It's so simple, but once you command it, the world is yours.
