They say the temp here in New York will be 96 (feel like a 102) for the next 4 days starting tommorow. That really sucks.
I hate running my air conditioner 24 hours a day for 4 days but i don't see it as a choice. Hope it won't break from overuse.
10,000 BTUs of raw cooling power!

How are others going to deal with this heat wave?

It was already unbearable today and it was only 88. Tomorrow is supposed to be 96. I love air conditioning.

I live in a brand new building (for now) and I have air conditioning. I'll deal with the heat wave basically like how I deal with any other day. Just turn on the temperature control and let it do its work.

We had a 100 degree heat snap out here a few weeks ago. I tried my usual escape route to the coast, which is usually at least 10 to 20 degree difference. No go. The coast was like a stagnant sweat pond. I was sure the world was over. Why do people consider this "good weather"? Blame it on the rain.

Why do people consider this "good weather"?

Because when you live in the Northeast, you have heat wave weather, freezing rain, snow, or 3 days a year of comfortable weather (70-80 degrees, no humidity). This is the best of the worst.

TheMojoPin
06-06-2008, 09:10 PM
It's been hovering in the upper 80's with a heat index in the 90's for the last couple days here. Really windy, but humidity never dipping below 60%. Hideous.

In fairness, the heat on the west coast is not even close to here. If its 100 by you, thats NOTHING compared to being 97 here when the humidity is like 99%. A day when its 80 and that humid is just disgusting.

And what you get in the northeast is no one really agreeing on good weather. Our spring/fall keeps getting shorter, so we basically go from summer heat to winter cold and back to summer heat with maybe 4 weeks in between where it keeps going back and forth with both. It really is insane.

Me, personally, the good weather is 25 degrees and snowing. SNOW IS AWESOME, man up

Yeah. When I told the people at work today that the high only hit 88, they thought I was full of shit. The air felt like pudding and it seemed like it was 100 degrees.

I've got my built in wall unit AC ready to rock my main floor and my basement stays nice and cool (ranch house) on it's own and i have a dehumidifier down there so I'm ready for it. I'm getting a new roof this month though so I suspect the heat may mean it'll take a few more days to get it finished up since the guys will probably only be able to work half days in the 90+ degree heat but I'm cool with that as long as they do a good job.

I'm no fan of excessive humidity, but when it's this unbearably hot I just remind myself that it's a lot better than those below zero days where it feels like your face is going to fall off just walking to your car to warm it up.

And I plan on staying home in the central air conditioning as much as possible this weekend.

The one nice thing about living on the ground floor of a condo place is that the room above you in the summer loses a lot of it's cooled air into my place. If I keep my joint closed up tight with the windows and shades pulled all day I can normally survive with no AC but on days like this I'll need my central air as a backup to his.

I just set it to hold the current 73 that I am sitting at now so it wont have to work super hard to bring the temp down later.

But on the flip side to all this is that it blows in the winter when I heat his place.

At 8:45 this mornign it is 64 degrees here in Central Mass. The sun just popped out from behind the clouds. The weather "guy" said that it will get up to 90 degrees and soupy by this afternoon.

I am going to try to get my lawn mowing out of the way this morning and finally open up the swimming pool. Then I am going to open the pop-up camper in the back yard and that is where I will be sleeping tonight.

We have 3 air conditioners (room sized) that I have to put into the windows sometime this weekend too. When I'm done with them I'll try to get down there and help you with your A.C. Alice. I have an un-natural attractionto helpless females.

The difference is, when its really cold, you can put on another shirt. You can cover your face, wear a huge jacket. You can prevent yourself from being cold. When its 97 degrees, you cant do shit about it other then just be hot and gross.

I'm having a new roof put on so I currently have a dumpster in my driveway so I can't park in my garage. I got in my car at about 2pm today and my sunglasses and stereo faceplate started to fog up with humidity. Luckily my house has tons of shade, good insulation, and new windows so I've only had to run my AC a on and off for a few hours and since it's a ranch the one wall unit takes care of the whole upstairs and the basement stays nice and cool and dry thanks to the dehumidifier. I hope the heat doesn't slow the time table on my roof too badly though, I want my garage back :)

PapaBear

The AC isn't working right at our pizza shop. The digital thermometer on the wall only goes to 99, so I'm not sure of the exact temp. At one point we propped open the door. It took at least 45 minutes for the thermometer to drop to 98, and it was very noticeably "cooler". So I'm guessing it got to around 105-115 in the shop.

I got a panicked call from the owner saying the computers were blowing up. These suckers cost 3 grand a piece and we have 3 of them. I went in for the rescue. They had been running over 130 degrees. I blew a ton of dust out of the heat sinks and left the covers open, and saved the day. Yay me!!!

The only thing I miss about working in a pizza place are days like these. It would get so goddamn hot in there that it should have been illegal. The owner was never around when it was this hot so I would run out to the fish store and get a couple of pounds of shrimp and then pick up a case of beer. The mexican in the back would cook the shrimp and then throw it on ice. Then me, him and the pizza guy would take turns sitting in the walk-in cooler eating shrimp and drinking ice cold beer. I think that saved us from killing each other.

BTW, I blame the heatwave on GVAC. It's quite clear that all of his whining about it being cold has angered the weather gods. So when your balls are sticking to your leg today or you're sweating through your bra, thank GVAC.

I blame Gvac. He kept on bitching. Its too hot, its too cold, mother nature finally had enough and decided to fry us.

Hoo hoo.

My wife and I just went for a walk for like 2 hours. We even stopped at Whole Foods, picked up groceries and walked back with them. I don't know what you people are complaining about. It was a little hot, but it was beautiful.

They called a heat day and opened up the swim club today, from 4 to 6.
It's normally not open during the weekdays until school lets out.
Nice and refreshing.

Also a half day of school tomorrow.

The conductors didn't even bother checking tickets out of fear of having their eyes clawed out or their teeth punched in.

It has been pretty god damn hot here. Didn't buy an air conditioner yet and my poor budgeting skills (aka, the pay-rent-then-spend-the-rest-on-booze-and-food plan) prevent me from doing so for another week.

I have to say though, I got home today to a 88 degree apartment, made myself a drink, and smoked a nice cigar in the hot room, and it felt like the quintessential ringing in of summer. It gave me that rare and readily-embraced "slow-thinking is okay right now" feeling.

Quite pleasurable.

It's a lovely 90 degrees here tonight. I can't imagine what 98 feels like.

I heard six people say "y'now it's not the heat, it's the humidity" today. I knew.

I wanted to cut their ac power cords for sayin it.

The news keeps flashing requests for people living in Upper East Side and Brooklyn to conserve energy because energy reserves are depleting and could trigger a brownout...

But WHO actually follows that advice? I know I am not shutting my A/C, computer or TV.

Apparently there are power outages starting in Brooklyn....(per Casey :( )
ConEd has a request for customers to conserve energy because of it.

Here is a poorly written article telling us it may be a little better tomorrow:

Humidity down to about 25% here...but it's 86 degrees.

I fucking hate that I have to catch the train to my night classes right at the height of rush hour, so the train is completely packed and extra steamy. Right after I walk about a mile to get there, too. Yum.
