North Jersey ends as soon as you go south of Newark. After that its south jersey.

Is it merely geography? (Draw the line at Route 195 or, as some northerners say, at the Driscoll Bridge, wherever that is.) Is it culture? (WaWa or no WaWa?) Sports? (Eagles or Giants?) Food? (Jimmies or sprinkles? Hoagies or heros? Italian or water?) Fashion? (Flip flops or stilettos?) Language? (Bennies or shoobies?) Beer taps in bars? (Are they covered with a Phillies baseball or a Yankees baseball?)

This guy is gonna attempt to figure this out and he doesn't even know where the fuckin Driscoll Bridge is?

I'd think, looking from the outside, it all depends on which city has more influence on where you are, New York or Philadelphia. If it's New York, you're in North Jersey. If it's Philly, you're in South Jersey.

But it is kind of a "who gives a fuck anyway" thing for me.

south jersey is where they start talking funny.

north jersey is where they say they live 'just outside' nyc.

There is no such thing as Central Jersey. It's a myth started by NJ Bell years ago to mess wit yo head.

South Jersey starts at the Driscoll. Everything above that is God's Country.

Exactly...there's something about crossing that bridge that imparts a distinctly "south jersey" feel....

As a kid, the only times I crossed that bridge was when we were going down the shore. That's why it means south jersey to me. That's where the shore is.

X2. When I was a kid I would be sitting in the backseat so anxious to get to the center of it. As soon we hit it I "KNEW" I was down the shore.

Ocean county and south..IMO
Although there is a semi famous political science thesis at Rutgers that New Brunswick is the median between North and South Jersey voting trend wise and culinary wise (no good bagels south of NB, no good Philly Cheese steaks norf of NB)

the shore of what? the raritan river? your in south amboy at that point.

for me, the 172 mile long parkway should be split in 3
that gives 57.43 miles of parkway for each north, central, and south jersey.

Those who said Ocean County and below have it right. The state was formed with a top and bottom (north and south) and that Ocean-Burlington border is right in the middle.

Please note:

1. North and South are not necessarily demarcated by geographic lines;
2. there is no Central NJ
3. Because of Rutgers University, anything south of New Brunswick is South Jersey.

Its all very simple.

South Jersey = Philly Area
Central Jersey = mix (depending if you subscribe to the idea of Central Jersey, many people I've met do)
North Jersey = NYC Area

I break it down by sports fans that live predominantly in each area. I'm in the philly 'burbs (Bucks County), right over the river on the "safe" side across from Trenton. On my side of the river, it's all is Philly sports fans, as soon as I cross over 95, Rt1, Trenton Makes bridge etc...it's all Devils, Yankees, Giants Fans etc., that's Central/North Jersey as far as I'm concerned.

Anything south of Trenton, I've always looked at that as South Jersey Philly Area.

I said this in the other thread and it's what I believe: Turn on your tv or radio. If you get New York stations then you're in North Jersey. If you get Philadelphia stations then you're in South Jersey. If you can pick up both, like I do, then you're in Central Jersey.

but what happens when you cant pick up either and only have bad jersey radio such as WRAT?

based on its bad signal you are in central Jersey. Pretty much everyplace you can pick up WRAT you get Philly and NY stations (except for real close to the stick, then the WRAT bleeds through on pretty much every station)

The way I grew up was Monmouth to Middlesex was Central NJ, anything South of it was South NJ and North of it was North NJ.

In that situation Spring Lake would be on the very southern border of "Central NJ".

nah, your logic is wrong. central jersey is not as big as south and north jersey. i'd say its 2/5ths north, 2/5ths south, and 1/5 central

So South Jersey starts in New York?

As an outsider, I do get a kick out seeing that New Jersey sucks so bad that people from there don't want to be associated with other people from there. You have to make some sort of distinction to make it seem like you're not Bon Jovi. (hint : you are)

Of course people also told us that Mercer, Monouth and parts of Middlesex counties were Central Jersey.

Put a sock in it, Southie. Not everyone has a river and a bay they can use to mark their territory.
