oh, look, here is a contigency marching down the street....it seems the cultural outfit is long XXXXL white t-shirts draped over blue jeans that come up to the knee, and a tilted unbent-brim baseball cap with the sticker still on it.

What an amazing culture.....what amazing contributions to the world.

They really need to shape up their act and make it respectful and dignified like the nation's various St. Patrik's Day parades.

And I'm sure Columbus Day will be celebrated with wine tastings and lectures on Italian-American art.

Puerto Rico Day today...nice! When's Massachusetts Day?

Anywho... I worked it today, and in past years.
Seriously, The West Indies parade and the Puerto Rico Parade are the 2 worst parades a cop has to deal with; I tried to give away this CASH OVERTIME assignment, and NO ONE wanted it!

I always laugh after spending a full day surrounded by gang bangers and thugs, stabbing eachother, shooting eachother, fighting in the street, exhausted from trying to make sure no one gets killed-- I return home, plop down on my couch and turn on the news:

"a glorious celebration of their culture; plenty of police on hand, but luckily they didnt incite anything..." lol.

Yes, there are many many people who go to the parade to simply celebrate their heritage peacefully and lovingly... but unfortunately due to the actions of some, it has become an event I wouldnt attend with anyone I loved, and I'm sincerely frightened when I see families with young kids doing so.

That said, today was unbelievably uneventful. It seemed to be more people there than I have ever seen at previous PR parades, and although the gangbangers were indeed present, I didnt see or hear of any mischief/criminal activity, and the only ambulance calls I witnessed were heat related.

Maybe it was just too hot to act up, or maybe...just maybe, theyve learned to appreciate the day for what it is.

Happy Puerto Rico Day!!!

See ya on Nevada Day!!

Instead of attackin me personally (yeah, you), you took an ultra liberal stance to educate me. Seriously, you guys listed so many facts and prominent historical figures that i am ashamed that i ever viewed them in the light that i once did. I never knew that it was a Puerto Rican who made great strides in...........?

I dunno if its the heat or humidity, but many of you seem out of your mind.

I was under the impression that a board dedicated to R&F was supposed to be fun, poke fun and take fun. Apparantly, this gets dismissed when certain "groups" are the target.

I wonder: if ronnie were to say this, would it elicit the same ire, or would it get a chuckle or two.

But, of course, i'm not Ronnie (no one else could be) so all the "love everyone" hypocrites target me.

Thats a laugh.

Why is it a problem for you that people want to celebrate their culture? It's not yours. You don't have to be there, you don't have to see it. You're not even in the same state in which the parade occurs. It just comes across as "I DON'T LIKE PUERTO RICANS"

And Puerto Rican women... even with their fiery temper... can be beautiful and fun as hell to spend time with.
