Yesterday I was channel surfing and came upon a movie called "Savage Sam".
It looked like a Disney flick that I never saw before..so naturally I watched..It was a freaking sequal to "Old Yeller"! Who knew? It had mostly the same cast and the dog was a hound dog that looked nothing like his "dad" ...Yeller.
It was a pretty shitty, lighthearted, and somewhat racist tale of fighing the Apaches. No wonder I never heard of it.
Anyone else happen upon movies that turn out to be sequals of classic films?

I came across this abomination unto the blessed little baby Jesus one morning at 3:00am on Showtime. I watched for about three minutes and then changed the channel and decided I would pretend like it never happened.

There was some sequal to A Christmas Story. Only saw a little snippet of it on cable and changed the channel. I refuse to see it. You can't have a sequal to that movie.

There are two. Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss is awesome. My Summer Story, however, is not.

There are also, apparently, three prequels that I have never seen. Phantom of the Open Hearth, The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters, and The Star Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski.

To clear things up a bit, they arent sequels and prequels, exactly; most were TV movies... from Wikipedia:

A 1994 movie sequel, "My Summer Story," was narrated by Shepherd but featured an almost entirely different cast from the previous film.

The PBS series "American Playhouse" aired a series of television movies based on Shepherd stories, also featuring the Parker family. These included "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss," "The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters," and "The Phantom of the Open Hearth."
=

I have a couple of the above and they are pretty amazingly weird.

He also had a TV show Shepherd's Pie that would do stuff from his books; themes ran together, he'd go to South of The Border, and that would segue into his famous story on fireworks, originally titled with the un-PC 'Ludlow Kissel and the Dago Bomb' or something close to that.

There is one about all the shit dealing with and leading up to a Prom; 'Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories' which is easily the best thing he ever wrote and in some Universe is an awesome motion picture.

Shep had movies, best selling books, TV shows, and his radio show decades before the so called King of All Media.

I think "It Runs In The Family" is another..starring Grodin as dad, the useless Culkin brother, and that real familiar whiny broad as a superior mom to the one in Christmas Story.

You're right, and I was really only speaking on a real life timeline. I realized Hopnoodle's was Television. Actually in some ways I actually found Hopnoodle's funnier than A Christmas Story.

Troopers 2 was just for the bugs. Kind of like Letters From Iwo Jima.

The last Species made me incredibly mad it was so awful, Bring It On "In it to win it". Not so bad.

Well, at least the first three feature Natasha Henstridge.

Oh, you won't get resistance from me. I agree. If you watch "Rocky Horror Picture Show" on its own, separated from the party aspect, it's a shitty, shitty movie. But it's become this traditional place for sexually confused 17 year old boys to go and discover that, yeap, they're gay after all.

I remember hearing that Starship Troopers 2 was more faithful to Heinlein, but I haven't seen it for myself.

Michael Caine as a tug boat captain who wants to salvage the Poseidon, Karl Malden as his grizzled sidekick and Telly Savalas leading a band of commandos who go into the sinking ship looking for nuclear bombs (or some such nonsense) the ship is transporting.

Awful, awful movie.

The original Starship Troopers is one of my guilty pleasures. I watch the damn thing ever time I find it on. The Co-ed showers is a cool concept - it would be hard to wash up with a raging hard-on!
