As brought up on the show today, do you feel "guilty" because of your family?

I know a lot of people like Fez that have a "bad" family life or their mothers are mean to them, yet they can't stop talking to them or going back to visit them or anything. It's so weird. It's like the worse your family life, the more you need to see and talk to them. Someone's brain gets so used to needing the abuse to feel some sort of love or something.

I cannot imagine continuously dealing with anyone that is trying to make you feel guilty. If my mother started that shit, I'd just stop talking to her. Hell, I have a pretty great relationship with my family now, and I only speak with them like 5 or 6 times a year. I really do not get anyone who wouldn't cut off their family if they started that type of shit. Especially the girl who called in today to say her family was really selfish and constantly was trying to get money and shit from her. Just stop talking to them. Why treat your family so much differently than any other sort of human?

It's a difficult behavior to break, it's like telling a fat person to just stop eating. Very, very few people can do that.

It truly boggled my mind that three grown men over the age of 30 (Fez, Earl, and Dave) basically admitted that they're still afraid of their mothers and will do whatever they ask for fear of repercussions.

When I first moved out of my parents' house at age 21 my mother would try to lay guilt trips on me all the time for not coming over more often and not making every single Sunday family dinner. I stopped returning her calls and didn't see her for 3 months. She got the message and sent me a long letter begging forgiveness.

To this day, when she starts getting a little pushy I ask her if she's trying to get me to disappear from her life again and she shuts right up.

Part of being an adult is not being afraid to tell anyone to go shit in their hat, whether it's your parents, a boss, or the president of the United States. You have the right to live your life the way you choose, and it should be respected by anyone who claims to respect you.

Fez feels he was abused by his mother, but feels guilty about not running home every chance he gets, preventing him from having his own healthy life- along with other reasons.
Fez simply didn't get enough love from his Mom when he was little, his perception and thats all that matters, so he still seeks to get that approval and love from her. Maybe because he is so insecure about who he is, gay or asexual, he seeks outside approval that he is ok and accepted. That never works, you have to love yourself, or atleast like yourself.
Dave is still a child. All he talks about is what he needs; Wii games, alcohol, sleep. You have a wife and child. Man up. Play your games, drink your alcohol, sleep when you can, but stop complaining when your wife and daughter interferes with your childish pursuits. So he loves running home to his buddy, his mom. She wants a little baby so she treats him like one. He welcomes it since it is warm and comforting, only it is constricting his growth as an adult.
Earl is mildly retarded. He said today that he strives to do better. Please. He puts no effort into anything. He brings a list of the greatest guitar riffs and has none of them ready to be played. He claims people are always looking at him in stores because he is black. No, idiot it is because you are wearing all black and skulk around. Try dressing like everyone else and maybe you will be treated like everyone else.
Sorry, every one of my posts will deteriorate into an Earl bashing post. Give him a no show job and have Lilly there full time, or any intern.

I think that family IS important, and that you should try harder to maintain relationships and go out of your way to support people simply because they're family.

BUT, it's a two way street. I'll bust my ass for all of my family, and give them much more leeway if they get a little crazy or act inappropriately. But there's a cut off point. I'm not going to give and give, and take bigger and bigger piles of shit just because they're family. I haven't had a relationship with my mother in years - I've just realized that it's been so long that I've lost track of how long it's been - but I gave it every chance, and she just couldn't stop fucking with me and hurting my feelings. I wish it wasn't this way, but when you look at it and decide that you've done everything you can do to make it better but it's not getting any better, it's time to move on.

Why would you allow any person to make your life miserable?
