Today on the show Ron asked the entire staff if they'd rather work in a good place or do good work, that is would they rather be in a nice, safe, easy going atmosphere or work in a somewhat stressful place but do important work.

Not surprisingly, the only one who chose the quality of life over quality of work was Earl. I know, you're shocked.

How about you? Would you rather do important work and pay a price for it or is skating along more your thing?

when I was listening today i immediately said good place. i refuse to take that back because i think a good work environment leads to good work. I know that if im happy at the place im at i'm way more productive. right after he took the staff poll ron said the following, "its like being asked if you want to play on championship team and bust your ass in practice or being on a relaxed team, party all the time and go 4-12" when it comes down to that id much rather, and prefer, to be on a team where i bust my ass and am rewarded for my hard work. i guess what im saying is i dont get how being in a good environment would lead to bad work.

Our work is all we have. It defines us. It is who we are.

It's not even a question.

It doesn't necessarily have to, but the question was between those two options only. And there are many, many people who will do the bare minimum if they're in a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure on them.

i guess maybe then i misunderstood the options and their consequences.

I found that in my line of work, sometimes the best people for the job aren't the easiest to work with. That said I don't think I have worked on a set that wasn't fun. I think the bottom line though is that you have to have pride in what you do and create. Good work wins for me.

I think it's important to take pride in whatever job your doing at the time. If your cleaning toilets, then be the best toilet cleaner you can be. If you don't like it then get a different job.

I work in transportation and I feel a certain obligation to think about how does X or Y affect the passengers (even though 90% of then are just non-paying savages). Its why I'm there, its what I get paid to do.

Work enviroment does count for a lot though. When I started I loved coming to work. In recent years its turned into just a paycheck and I'm in the process of attempting to "move on".

So I guess if you pride in your work then its important work, to you. I'm not curing Cancer but I feel like if I give it my all no matter what I do then there some personal reward in it.

Most people just wanna coast and get over.

The work that I do is completely meaningless to anybody else, but me. It is a family business and I am the 3rd generation. Pride is and quality is what keeps me going and that is all that matters.

i've had plenty of jobs that i thought were beneath my talents, and i always went in late and did a half-assed job. i hated it.

now that i've gone to grad school and landed a great job that i love, i come in late and do a half-assed job. i love it.
