Let me start by saying I am a Dave fan and have been from the start.

BUT

Am I the only one experiencing "Dave Fatigue" ?
I like his character but he is starting to wear me out with the drunk act and the making up lies for mic time.

I'll make this a poll to see if I'm on an island on this one

Again I love Dave I'm just starting to grow weary.

This is a polarizing topic. Sometimes Dave is hilarious, sometimes Dave is annoying. I'm really not in the mood for Dave antics today, and I think with Fez being a little stronger and Dave being less wacky lately today is a heavy 'Dave Fatigue' day for me too.

I get the feeling it's been a long week for Ron, being sick, so the show has been going to some stuff that is a little more automatic to give him a break.

i think fez is watching the dave and ron show and is scared to interrupt.

there are times when i'm listening to the show and i think that itunes has paused....but then i realize oh no...Ron is in a studio full of fuck ups who aren't capable of holding a conversation.

the worst is when during one of these silences fez blurts out the phone number in his last act of panic.... i like the fact that ron called him on it the other day when during a long pause fez decided to go to a caller.

Truth be told, under normal everyday circumstances, I hate Dave..I think he's unfunny and a mic hog with nothing smart to add to Ronnie's genius, normally..
But when he's drinking I think he's awesome, the bee's knees and the oyster's iceskates all rolled into one..I can put myself right onto the barstool next to him singing "The fields of Athenry" then throwin' back another shot of "Tito's"..I would drink with Dave any day of the week..

Dave is always switched on and he only knows one speed, which in and of itself is tiring, but that's why he drinks like his hair is on fire and I love it..

Nothing is going make Fez step up, other than himself and it doesn't matter if Dave's talking. The subject matter goes a long way also, moviesand music are key influences on the show and Fezzie is just incapable of contributing on those points. And let's not get started on any relationship stuff.

I think Dave should always be drunk on air. He was hilarious today and I love it when he is in drunken clown mode. I get annoyed when he tries to hold a serious conversation with Ron about anything besides music or sports. A couple of days ago he would butt in with wrong information about Washington's slaves and a bunch of other crap. He's not stupid but he just can't hold a decent conversation with Ron on most topics.

Everybody gets some sort of fatigue now and then, whether it's Fez's tears fatigue or Dave Fatigue, nobody's perfect. If Dave weren't there for 3 or 4 days, we'd all be talking about Pitzy fatigue or wishing that Mooch was still here.

I think on days like today (and this week as a whole) Dave is an invaluable asset to have. Ron's sick as a dog, Fez is really struggling with his anxiety, Lilly is away, Earl is Earl, and Pitzy seems to run hot and cold in on-air situations.

It was the easiest thing to do to get Dave drunk and basically let him take the show over.

That being said, I do think that when Fez gets his chops back they seriously have to figure out how to work the whole 3rd mic dynamic.

My opinion has always been if I don't like the bit I listen to something else. I think ESD is genuinely funny. I just don't care for the stunts they sometimes do. whether its "Tito" Dave or Opies scat moustache. The Big A stuff turns me off too.

I think it's this perception that Dave steals the mic from Fez, but I think the shows from the time Dave was out on paternity leave really disproved that to me.

When Fez is strong and takes the mic, Dave settles into the 3rd mic role quite nicely. I think he was especially good on the Free FM show in that regard.

IMHO Dave has picked up the slack for Ron where Fez has just collapsed. It's almost painful to listen to NEW shows where Fez is really on point. FWIW I think that Fez has what it takes to come back but HTD with many of the other listeners that he should be off the air. Ron knows when to reign him in. I have never really been a fan of Dave on the show because I don't find him funny or entertaining.

That being said, I think he deserves major props for doing what he can to help the show, which is in desperate need of help.

Also, it's unfair to blame Dave for Fez's not talking, although Dave does seem to do whatever he can to grab mic time, even if it doesn't fit in at the time.

It's a tough call, because Dave shouldn't be punished for Fez's difficulties. But I do think just having Ron and Fez and maybe Earl on mic for some shows would force Fez to step up and be better on the air. It seems like when he wants to step up and is looked to for funniness, like on every show except Ron and Fez, he kills. I think Fez needs to be needed more.

Also, to be frank, Ron's making a point to contradict and shout down Fez every time Fez talks is really getting tiresome. I understand that Fez is struggling now and sometimes makes very little sense, but it seems that sometimes Ron is waiting for an opportunity to pounce on Fez and knock him back from even making attempts. I know this isn't the case, but it almost seems like Ron wants Fez "back" but doesn't want him back at the same time. If I was a brand new listener, I would probably conclude that Ron dislikes Fez and probably wants him off the show. I know a lot of that is probably just frustration with Fez and with the show all around.

I want Fez to feel and get better, and I miss the days when Ron and Fez had the best chemistry and rapport on the air anywhere.

Dave brings more to the show than anyone else save Ron. Fez is not the same Fez he once was (and I love Fez). Maybe that will change at some point in the future but for now Dave gets more mic time because that's the way they want it. Final thought...I love Dave and I am glad the show has someone who can step up when necessary.

There probably is too much Dave, but without him it would be the Ron and the lazy do nothing producer show. Fez has not shown up consistently in a long time. ESD does go overboard, but he is new to the radio business. He needs to tune his craft, but his energy is great, something everyone else on that show is lacking, including Ron.
ESD is well versed in a variety of subjects, something that Fez is not, he may be wrong but he has an opinion. The most important thing in radio is to have an opinion. Fez always asks for opinions, he never seems to have his own.
I think they could cut back on the visual stunts since it is a radio show, and ESD needs to check some of his facts from time to time, i.e. it does not need to be below freezing for it to snow, but ESD is great.

Have you continued to produce bits after that day you were supposed to produce a certain number of bits, of course you failed, and then said you want to keep doing that work. Earl is their only producer. Dave is on-air talent, what has he ever produced. I know his title is producer, but he is air talent. Earl can be fired in a second. He works for XM, Logan, Don or anyone from XM can fire him. Ron & Fez protect him.
No one at Sirius would hire Earl, no one was jumping to hire him before. Opie had to protect him. People feel bad for him, no one has the balls to fire him.
Dave does have his problems, but he is not the mess that Billy or Paul O were and are.

I know Ron likes to bust balls, and say "this show is so much better without dave", but without him, its a 3 hour "Fez talks about his problems"-athon.

And as for Fez talking more without dave, last time dave wasn't in studio, an hour into the show they called in Franklyn and Dean, and Fez stopped talking for them too. I think Fez will not talk when theres another person there no matter who it is, so it might as well be dave who is funny and entertaining

Not true! You were great on the air, a breath of fresh air, and a lot of fun. But, you're also a good example of knowing when to move on to other things. Where is this resurgence you speak of? I was just listening to the replay, and Fez said maybe 3 words in 25 minutes. After going through some other XM channels, I am now reduced to listening to either the Wavy Gravy show on Sirius off Dish Network or listening to Bonnaroo and waiting for them to broadcast something besides Willy Nelson, Teabag and Sara, or My Morning Cuntrag.

I know Ron likes to bust balls, and say "this show is so much better without dave", but without him, its a 3 hour "Fez talks about his problems"-athon.


An interesting point, let's look at it deeper and examine its merit. I'll add the disclaimer that I'm an adament ESD support and all comments are more of a devil's advocate. Be warned this is wordy and probably boring.

First, we can start by asking if NEW RNF is better than today's show? That is for opinion and conjecture, the show has evolved a lot. However current day certainly lacks the sheer amount of show players that could be recyled throughout the show. Ron brought the ferocity of an Iris and his always awesome barrage of lines while Fez was a fucking brillaint workhorse with all of his voices and Fezatorials. Fez 2000 also had a great intuition with Ron in terms of playing good cop bad cop on guests, callers, anything.

Now let's get into show players, like Hawk and his Hawk facts, production and occasional drinking shows. Staples and his constant insanity, his drinking, daily excuses, someone for RNF to yell at. Rory Hamptons for his... well drinking, fodder for being rich, and most especially making Fez enjoy the lights ourt parties by wrestling with him. Joe Poo, writing great bits, doing production, and acting as 3rd mic.

Now those were all FULL TIME employees. We can't forget Black Earl being there because he lived at the studio, he pretended to be cool and gave RNF the ability to make black jokes. Can't forget the RNF babies either. They didn't really have "friends of the show" visit and get on mic, the only show outsiders were RNF babies.

Today there's Ron who basically carries the shows with his brilliant lines. Fez, who reads off news articles to discuss and is now getting back to where he was before, but still has a ways to go... Then Dave who takes devil's advocate on a lot of issues so Ron has someone to discuss issues with, takes a lot of heat for saying crazy shit (which I believe he says to put himself in that Devil's Advocate role), and of course his drinking shows, production, bits and characters like Guy Guyerson and Board Gossip. There's Earl who fucks up a lot, and gives them the ability to do black jokes. Pitzy who is mainly off the air logistics. That's all of the hired talent. So right off the bat, the hired talent of NEW was probably deeper and more versatile given that after Ron, it's basically Dave who does most of the heavy lifting.

His research for his stuff is well thought out and his sources help the brain storm. I would love to sit in on a creative session with him, just to see the process.

He's not over powering he knows when to step in and step out. He melds with Ronny and Fezzy and keep the show moving. I am torn on the issue. I did not like Dave in the beginning but he grew on me and I sson became a fan of the three of them on air. But recently with Dave taking time off and hearing Fez a lot more I have to admit that I like those shows more. Still I wold like to hear that three of them when Dave pplays devils advocate and says stupid mindless shit (sometimes that really bugs me, especially about stuff with his kid) I think in a perfect PORKCHOP world, there would be two shows, one Ron and Fez, and one Ron and Fez with Dave. I am relatively new to the site, but have enjoyed the show for a few years now. As far as Dave is concerned, I do not understand everyone that says 'He should let Fez talk'.
The show is Ron and FEZ, and if Fez wants to talk more, does HE not need to be the assertive one? I love Fez and Dave, and think they compliment each other. It seems as though Ronnie B. needs someone, and if Dave is his man, so be it. Fez could do more recorded bits, I LOVED those.... but, he doesn't. I believe that shows like this have to change and morph over time, and I like where it is now. I hate Earl so damn much sometimes, but I cannot imagine the show without him.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard Dave's stupid rant today out of the mouth of someone I've run into, or even worse, am related to.


I think it's still important that people know that these types of attitudes exist. What we do with it? I don't know.
