First of all, this is for all who want to respond, pot smokers, or friends of pot smokers that don't use but know....
I have a a good friend who still gets high on a regular basis, (It don't make you a bad person), as he claims that when he is high, he sees things clearer. He is able to cut through the b.s. and know the truth.
He said that the sensitivity level is enhanced, he is more relaxed, inhibitions fade away, and as a result, he can cut through all of the misperceptions, and see a truer reality.
So the questions begs to be asked: On pot, do we see things clearer as they really are, or is it a warped perception, created by an alternate reality that has been artificially induced thanks to THC?
See above poll.

I think first we need to smoke and talk a little bit about what reality is.

it really is a typical topic to discuss when partaking, isn't it?
i see 28 have read the thread, and only about 4 have voted. are people paranoid that somewhere someone is tracking their responses, meaning they will be outed for smoking pot if they vote?
I'd love to hear from mike the teacher and what his take is, as well as everyone else. responding does not mean you are getting high. you may have in the past, or know someone now.

I say it creates a warped reality, but under the disguise of clarifying reality. I've had some major breakthroughs while under the influence, but it's also been a way to hide from some things in my life I'd rather avoid thinking about, making it easier to live in a fantasy world.

Its been awhile since I've smoked and pot may have changed since then....but for me, none of the above applied. Pot definitely never made anything clearer, but I wouldnt say it warped perception either, and euphoria was never in the mix at all.
Smoking pot made everything a tad bit fuzzier, a helluva lot mellower, and always a lot hungrier. If getting the giggles and kind of a permagrin counts as euphoria I guess I could vote that way, but i dont really see that as euphoria.
It's been 20 years but from what I remember is that senses were hightened: food tasted better, music sounded better and Star Trek was a whole lot deeper.

i agree with the "major breakthrough" comment.
what is so confounding is how in a "sober" reality, one can mispercieve the relationship, whereas "under the influence", it show things in a totally different light.
the quandry is what is the real "Reality"? the "sober" one where everything seems great, or the "altered state" reality that seems to show all apsects, warts and all?
and that's not all. sober reality allows a high level of numb self undulgence. do what you want, the hell with others or what is right. under the influence brings you to a more responsible, moral place, based feeling more sensitive to others. it's ponderous, man, ponderous...

I definitely think it's a combo of all the things in the poll and that's why I didn't vote.
When i first started smoking it was euphoric and eye opening. It really helped change my life. I became a more kind, loving person. As it became a habit I felt lethargic and out of touch much of the time. I'm talking every day for about 8 years. There was always paranoia, but it got worse for me. The paranoia, lethargic feelings and lack of motivation caused me to stop.
After that, from time to time I would smoke and it was really a perspective shifter for me. The perspective shift seemed to be almost opposite of what had been hanging around in my head, but always seemed to reveal truths. That was really positive and scary at times because sometimes it's hard to face reality.
What I really miss about pot is the laughter, the depth of sound in music, and watching movies while high.
I've been kinda grumpy lately, maybe I could use a perspective shift.:smoke:
