View Full Version : Who should be the next host of MEET THE PRESS?
Of the people out there, I'm actually torn between Joe Scarborough and Gwen Ifill.
[edit = fuck! I've been out of practice - I wanted to make this a poll]
Other obvious names out there - Tom Brokaw, Keith Obermann, Chris Matthews, Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell or David Gregory.

Go to "Thread Tools" and then "Add a Poll to this Thread".

Joe Scarborough, Keith Obermann, Andrea Mitchell
UGH.
I'd give up on the show if any of them get it.

David Gregory would have been the best temporary fill in but I think he's out because of that spat he had with McLellan. Plus he's always snippy with bush from the press gallery. They need someone without an obvious lean.
I think Tom Brokaw will take it until they find someone. Once a week no big deal.

Ronnie B, Rick Santelli, or Norm McDonald

After this sunday my vote goes to tom brokaw, maybe chris matthews or joe scarborough
I would guess that David Gregory would at least be the temporary host until they find a permanent replacement.

Pick ANY liberal windbag, put him in a suit, make sure they are overtly self-important and you're on your way.
Just make sure they don't have any trouble pronouncing words with the letter, 'L' when reading from the TelePrompTer.

Jon Stewart! He's just so smart! and funny! and witty! In fact, I think he should run for president. While he's at it, Stephen Colbert should be his running mate. Come to think of it, Jon Stewart IS our president. How awesome.

After Russert I think the next toughest questioner in American TV journalism would have to be Ali G. It's either him or the perennially orange Pat O'Brien.

That would be Doris Kearns Goodwin
If NBC were at least trying to seem like they were being not so partisan, they'd ask Brokaw to do it for a year or two until they could find somebody longer term.

the fact that much of her last 2 books was plagarized argues against her intellectual honesty

Yeah, but she jumped out of a cake for Tim Russert on his birthday, that has to count for something, right?

Holy shit. Solid reference, dude.
For NBC to do this properly they will need an interim host and then will need to find a permanent host who is most likely an unknown to the nation. I'm thinking of someone who is a little older (45-55) but working on a local level in news with a good reputation that they can spring upon the nation with a fresh slate.
The problem with "the known" is that they will be labeled as "not Russert" enough. An unknown would have the advantage of making the show their own as Russert did.

The pathetic part is watching Chris Matthews pining over Tim. I may be jaded but it seems to have moved from grief to "I want the job" adulation.
Chris, just because you seem to know about everything that occured on MTP, doesn't mean you automatically get the job.

He doesn't look very comfortable doing it.

From what I read, NBC doesn't want him there permanently, as he's already busy with his nightly news gig. Tom Brokaw will be the interim moderator until November, at which point the permanent moderator is expected to be named.

Translation: We need Brokaw to get us through the election, and wait for Katie Couric's non-compete to run out.
It wasn't much of a secret, but Tom Brokaw turned over the reigns of MTP to David Gregory this morning.
David Gregory
Isn't that a new board member?
