I fly into JFK on Saturday and have from 9:00 - 6PM to get in a quick trip into the city before my next flight. My only plan so far is to get into Manhattan. I'm interested in some tips on what to see and where to grab a good sandwhich before heading back. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I wish it was a weekday then I'd try to watch the show. My initial thoughts were to do the "normal" things such as go to Times Square and then because I'm an Apple fan hit the Apple store. But that seems kinda lame.

Spend the money and hire a town car to get you around.
A delayed flight or traffic jam can seriously screw you up. There's a cabbie on every corner in the city but the cabbie lines @ jfk can take a while. Does the nine hrs include the hr before your flight?

The apple store @ 57th and 5th isn't a bad start. You can still do the park,FAO, and Rockefeller Center (Top of the Rock). The Roosevelt island tram isn't too far away and it's a cheap way to get a cool view. If you're staying in one area you could do the cab thing and save $ on the car service.

it's a bit silly, but the tram and the staten island ferry are fun time-killers. there are also a bunch of great places to get brunch, depending on where-abouts you'll be.

I forgot about the tram. I can ride that knowing that I am on the same transportation that Fez Whatley has taken! Thanks for the ideas!

definately visit the Port Authority on 42nd and 8th avenue.

The Bus terminal is located in the heart of Manhattan, one block west of Times Square. It occupies the blocks between Eighth and Ninth Avenues and 40th and 42nd Streets.

Address:
625 8th Avenue
New York, NY 10018

The terminal is the biggest bus station in the United States and the busiest in the world by volume of traffic [1]. It serves 7,200 buses and about 200,000 people on an average weekday. Over 3 billion passengers have used the building since it began operation during 1950.

Seriously this is a tourist trap, so I recommend carrying your money in your hand because you are going to be spending a lot of cash at the various stores and other parts of the city like the lower east side and Harlem are only a short bus ride away.

Rockefeller - Top of the Rock (http://www.topoftherocknyc.com/)

You get an excellent view of some of the best sites in NY. One of my fav places to go when I visit.

Head to the subway station at Lexington and 59th Street (it's under Bloomingdale's). If you're lucky, you may see the Glad Bag Lady (the homeless woman who wears only a Glad Bag).

Well if you have a girlie you can head down broadway around the 30s and 20s and pick up some perfume at a discount, or something for yourself.

Honestly pick out one or two things that seem interesting and do those. If its your first time in NYC theres nothing wrong with hitting tourist stuff.

Empire State bldg. is a can't miss its a fantastic view.
Walk through times sq. touristy yes but your time is limited so its an easy thing to do.
Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge another amazing view.
Usually i recommend a museum but you gots no time by the time you get to Manhattan from the airport you gotta due a couple of things and then head back.

Yeah I agree. Hit Time Square. If you want to make it less touristy, then walk against the lights and mumble "fucking tourists" at every intersection like the locals do. Good luck finding a decent sandwich there though.

Just remember if you are taking a car service or a cab into the city that traffic on Saturdays is really bad especially around the "tourist traps" Alot of streest are closed because they little street fairs going on all over the city. Last time I drove into the city on a Saturday and went into Time Square to meet some people it took me almost an hour from when I got onto the island from CT to get to Time Square.

But I would agree that Time Square is a good place to go or you can always go to Battery Park. From the park you can see the Statue of Liberty, take a ferry ride and see the bull that people always take a pic with holding its balls. It also is just a few blocks to Ground Zero, but I believe that is now blocked off so you can't even see the site anymore.

Also if you are flying international or domestic you still have to go back through security which can take a little bit, I would check the FAA website to see what average waiting times for security at JFK during that time is. That at least will give you an idea of what time you have to be back at the airport.
