many of the great grandmothers and great aunts in my family came over at the turn of the 19th century from germany as indentured servants. they were in effect slaves for a set number of years in exchange for becoming citizens. where's my reperations? i actually had relationships with these women, ate at their tables, talked to them and experienced their stories first-hand. can earl say the same about the slaves in his family 6 and 7 generations ago? the reperation argument always seemed silly. everyone has shitty experiences and nobody's 100% happy with their lives for one reason or another. why should a certain segment of the population think that because of this they're entitled to free shit?

I agree. It finally surpassed "2008 Presidential Election" or whatever that awful "you are" / "no, you are" thread is as the worst ronfez.net thread.

Not to pile on, but I am amazed that this piece of shit thread still has legs.
Scratch that, I guess I'm not amazed. Just more saddened.

It's depressing that outside of crazy threads about show members, it's these type of threads that really bring the most newbies and lurkers out of the woodwork.

Did the government enforce these arrangements? Did the government return runaway German?
I know Anglo-Saxons have had it tough in the new world. But, please respect that African slaves suffered more at the hands of the government than the Germans.
