View Full Version : What's the dumbest reason you have for quitting a job?

I wanna quit my job. I work at a hotel, and I wanna quit because I don't really like dealing with some of the people that stay here. It's an easy gig, and I get paid well, but little meaningless things annoy me. And I know it sounds ignorant to have a job that involves something you don't like, but I do it anyways.
This wouldn't be the dumbest reason I have for quitting a job, either. When I was about 19, I was working at this sandwich place. Every day at noon, that Sheryl Crow song "Soak Up the Sun" would come on, and I can't put into words how much I dislike it. Then one day, the song came on, I took off my work shirt and walked out.
Please tell me someone has a worse reason than that.

I never had the privilage of actually quitting a job, but one summer I was fired for renting out a paddle boat to a couple in Flushing Meadow Park that had a hole in it. About 25 yards out the boat was under water and these poor people had to swim back in that filthy polluted lake.
The girl had a white dress that quickly turned green.

When I was about 19, a buddy and I got a job at KFC. One day, they brought in a new fryer for the extra crispy chicken. We were standing there looking at it and talking about how nice it looked. The next day, I realized that I had just been admiring a deep fat fryer. I walked out of the store, and walked to my buddy's house. I knock on his window to wake him up.
Me: "Hey George. Wake up"
George (groggy): "Yeah? What's up?
Me: "Don't go to work today. We quit."
George: "OK"

While working as a Cheese Sprayer (I handled butter topping as well) for a well-known popcorn producer, I was reprimanded for eating an ice cream sandwich on the factory floor.
I promptly quit.

I remember now that when they gave me the uniform all the tags said made by McDonalds. Then it hit me...Am I really going to work at McDonalds???
I never showed up for day 2.

If I was a "cheese sprayer" when asked why I quit my job, I would say "Because I was a cheese sprayer"
I think it would be more degrading to list "anal whore" than "cheese sprayer" under job history

Shit, maybe I did quit some jobs. Now that the ol' memory is starting to kick in, I worked at a movie theater in Queens for 4 years. I quit to become a mailman.
How fucking stupid is that?

Holy shit! That's exactly how he sounded!!! He's got a PHD in chemical engineering or something now.
EDIT: I just looked him up online. Note the part I put in bold. Something tells me he was thinking of KFC when he wrote that!
"I took a nontraditional route through my education. After high school I attempted college at Syracuse University, but I just did not have the proper attitude to succeed academically. I bounced around at various dead-end jobs until I was 25 years old. Then I finally realized how important it was to have a college education. Since I was virtually destitute, I began my academic career at a local community college. There I developed my interest in chemistry. This carried me to the University of Virginia to complete my undergraduate studies. It became apparent to me that I was not going to be satisfied with the level of research I could do with a bachelor's degree, so I knew I had to go to graduate school. After weighing the options, I chose to pursue graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill."
George received a Master of Science degree in Chemistry, and later a PhD Physical Chemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill.

I'm not saying you're an anal whore, I'm just saying that holding the job title of "cheese sprayer" extremely depressed me.

I worked in home theater at best buy when that FUCKING SONG came out in westfield/carmel indiana. I think I bleed internally a bit when I hear that song. Fuck Sheryl Crow I hate her because of the loop that played. I have never wished diabetes
more on a person that walked in and enjoyed the song.

when i worked at burlington coat factory instead of working 5 days that i had worked for almost a year they put me down to 1 day a week so i really wasnt making that much money...i asked for more time more than once and they never gave me more time so i just stopped showing up at all
so for a year i got paid for no days instead of 1 day before i got another job...........i guess it wasnt that stupid to quit...it was more stupid to not have gotten a new job afterwards.

I quit my job at a local newspaper because there was hardly any work to do and they were too laid back--and I was bored shitless! This probably would have been a dream job for a lot of folks. Previously I worked at a printer that wouldn't give me a proper raise so I quit but I loved the work there--fast paced, stressful. This new job was the complete opposite--people would say "Hey, let's go for some ice cream" and you could just leave and come back in the middle of a shift. I couldn't stand it! I worked there a week then gave my 2 weeks notice. By then my old job had come up with a decent raise and begged me to come back and I couldn't wait to be busy again!

I quit a job because I wanted to spend the week at a friends cottage at a lake instead of work.
I quit by writing an I QUIT note on a napkin and leaving it in the break room.
Then again that was a retarded job.

I quit my job at Creative Labs because we had to work mandatory overtime, 12 hour shifts. I couldnt do it because of college classes... Which I ended up failing anyway. I could have made a bunch of money.... God dammit.

I was working two jobs at two different health food stores at one point and I was beginning to hate the non-dominant, non-main-bills-paying job because I had to drive for an hour only one day a week, and the owner decided she wanted me to clean out the nuts and seeds bulk bins all day that day, every week (because I did it best, yech) ... there was no sink available other than the one in the bathroom, so this amounted to me spending my Sunday in a dirty bathroom cleaning out bins that were 3 times the size of the sink, water splashing everywhere. Remember, this is a health food store, so one of these horrid days a customer came in, spent about an hour in the bathroom dropping an atomic bomb, and then I had to go back in and continue working in there in this gentleman's stink... I promptly walked out of the bathroom and quit. I'd worked there for 5 years before that.
Stupid reason to quit a job, but I firmly stand by the decision today.

I never really had a dumb reason.
I quit once to get another, better job when it was clear I wasn't going to get a raise and got dicked out of a bonus that was owed me.
Quit the next job after getting in to grad school.
Quit the following job because it sucked and I was depressed, so I just stopped going in.

My first job out of college was covering high school sports for a local newspaper. After posting what seemed like my 10,000th article about a 19-12 high school girls basketball game with an insightful lead on the high scorer (5 points, 3 rebounds with strong post-up ability and a knack for finding the ball in traffic) I called my editor and told him that I was quitting to become a REAL sports writer.
I'm an attorney.
