The AFRO softball game is this Saturday, in Hartsdale NY and is always a blast, but what would make it MUCH more blastfull is some of the dot netter crowd. Hope some of you will come out.

AFRO Softball Tournament & BBQ
Date: Saturday, June 21st
Time: 10:00 AM
Game Time: 11:00 AM
Location: Ridge Road Park in Hartsdale, N.Y. which is in Mid-Westchester, right off of Exit 4 I-287 (In NY West/Eastbound)

details are at www.myspace.com/afrosoftball and i'll repost them here for the lazy.

There are 4 teams, a volleyball court, a basketball court (bring your own ball for either if you want to play) and a horse shoe court. There is a huge pavillion with lots of shade and plenty of grill room, picnic tables, etc. and lots to do even if you dont play. We usually get lots of generous people to bring tons of food and beer too.

The Teams: There are set rosters for the teams, but lemme know if you wanna play and we'll see what we can do. The New York Pests (Yankees) The New York 909ers (Mets) The Boston Virus Spreaders The Philly Uberfans

Directions:

To get there take I-287 to Exit 4 (EB & WB) From Westbound make a RIGHT onto 100A/ W.Hartsdale Ave follow south about 2 miles till you see Ridge Rd, Bear right onto Ridge Rd and follow about half mile Park up on right hand side

From Eastbound make a LEFT onto bridge cross over I-287 and continue straight up hill onto 100A/ W.Hartsdale Ave follow south about 2 miles till you see Ridge Rd, Bear right onto Ridge Rd and follow about half mile Park up on right hand side

If using Mapquest to get there the Destination should be: [128-363] Ridge Rd Hartsdale, NY 10530, US

I-287 links up to I-95 (New Englanders) and it links up to I-87 (NYS Thruway), I-684,the Hutchinson River Parkway, Saw Mill River Parkway, Route 9 & 9W and it crosses the Tappan Zee Bridge into Rockland County where it meets up with Routes 1&9, Route 17 and I-287 turns south at Mahwah. It really is the best option. As far as easily accessable.

FOOD AND DRINK: While there is no requirement to bring anything, its great if you can. Here are some of the things we need. If you can post or PM me if you can bring something, that would be great. THX!!

#1 ICE AND COOLERS

We need a tremendous amount of ice, and as many coolers as possible to keep drinks/food cold. If you have coolers but no ice, or ice but no coolers, bring whatever you have. Even if you're not bringing food or drink, if you have coolers or can bring ice, please do.

#2 DRINKS-- ESPECIALLY BOTTLED WATER AND BEER (aluminum bottles get you plus 2 points)

but feel free to bring what you like, ie soda, diet soda, gatorade, smart water, red bull, whateva. im making my sangria.

#3 FOOD FOR THE GRILL

This means hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken wings, sausage, corn on the cob, hamburger and hot dog rolls or anything else you can think of that is relatively easy to eat. we need lots so dont think-- oh thats already covered.

#4 OTHER FOOD NOT FOR THE GRILL

I wouldn't bother with potato salad and coleslaw etc as the mayo stuff spoils really easily in the sun, but if anyone wants to bring a tray of baked ziti or pasta salad or meatballs, sausage and peppers, etc. that would work, also some cookies, or easy desserts would be great and chips.

#5 NON EDIBLE STUFF

Grill tools!!!! Garbage Bags!!!! LOTS of Plastic Cups, plastic plates, plastic forks, knives and spoons. A broom.

#6 CONDIMENTS: KETCHUP KETCHUP AND MORE KETCHUP, MUSTARD, HOT SAUCE, SALT, PEPPER, SAUERKRAUT, WHATEVER ELSE.

oh yea, ICE AND COOLERS
AS OF RIGHT NOW WE NEED A LOT MORE OF EVERYTHING! K THX!

Sorry for the short notice. Everyone is welcome and we would REALLY REALLY REALLY love to have lots and lots of .netters there, but i promise, we're not taking attendance, and nobody will get mad or yell that rf.net doesn't support or anything ghey like that.

Again, SUPER very sorry for not posting more info sooner. But its a really good time if you can make it.

I didn't. We've always made the softball game our event, so it generally just gets promoted here (unlike, say, the Christmas party, which we encourage everyone to come and promote on the show and on other boards). FBA's softball game is their big event of the year, and it gets promoted far outside of FBA. If anyone has an issue with Deb promoting it here, point the finger at me, because I was the one who encouraged her to do so.

That's part of it of course. Also, I don't think it's strange for people who almost always make the r/f.net softball events to be a little irked that not only is their game a passing thought by even it's own, but aren't a part of any AFRO tourney. It's nothing against HTG (even though I do take offense to ur "attendence" comment), MB or any one person, it's the overall "what's in it for me and my exposure to the show" approach that has seemingly taken over our community. And yes, I do mean people need it to be about them no matter how loud they scream it isn't, and perhaps our "smaller" close knit old timers game is the way to go in the long run.

And I tried to get in this last year for r/f.net and was told there weren't any spots left and it wasn't possible to get a RonFez.net team even though we've been having multiple games for years now.

And I don't really think it's negative to discuss something versus actually digs and pissy comments I've seen anytime someone goes against the status fucking quo. Sorry, I don't have that asslick bone in my body people. I see things for what they are, and some people care only about their stake and mention.

Meanwhile a guy I'm always ripping on the board has now paid for a field for this site out of his pocket to the tune of around $50 at least 6 times. There's a guy who puts in not only work for a community of fans of a show some people dump out on when they can get something out of it.

Right, bc he's had about as much to do with those games as my dead grandmother in PA. So yah, he should get defensive and act like that's even close to the discussion at hand here overall.

Yup.
That's how it was last year... I PM'd the organizer a few days before (late notice again) and was told that it was too late to be added to a team.

I prefer to flail at our .net games.... I hope we have another one this year :)

perhaps our "smaller" close knit old timers game is the way to go in the long run.Spoon, what constitutes an "old timer"?

mikeyboy

That's part of it of course. Also, I don't think it's strange for people who almost always make the r/f.net softball events to be a little irked that not only is their game a passing thought by even it's own, but aren't a part of any AFRO tourney. And yes, I do mean people need it to be about them no matter how loud they scream it isn't, and perhaps our "smaller" close knit old timers game is the way to go in the long run.

A few things...

1. Well, it's not board vs. board event. It's regional. There are two NY teams, one Philly team, and one Boston team, so the whole thing about the no rf.net team is moot.

2. This probably would have been posted here earlier if it had occurred to me.

3. Excuse me for missing the ronfez.net game. Weekends during the day are usually bad for me because I do stuff with my kids. This weekend, my wife is taking my kids to the beach, and I hate the beach, so I'm going to the softball game. I fucking hate the fact that sometimes people make a big deal about whether or not someone shows up at events. It's happened with events not affiliated with this board, but I really thought we were above that childish shit. We all have lives and attend the things we can and/or want to. No one should feel obligated to attend anything.

4. I don't even get this part:

it's the overall "what's in it for me and my exposure to the show" approach that has seemingly taken over our community.

Where the hell do you get this? It's a get together to play softball and have fun. All are invited. Don't want to come? Don't. It's really that simple. Yes, it got plugged on the show, but how many of our events have gotten plugged on the show. The vast majority of them, I'd venture. The show didn't plug our softball games, but we didn't even bring it to their attention.

Seriously, explain to me where you got this based on what has gone down.

mikeyboy
06-20-2008, 03:37 PM

A. I didn't add the tag. B. Your sentence doesn't make sense to me from an English standpoint. C. Yes, it's the hardcores who make our softball game work. And? What's the objective talk? The objective of the FBA game? I seriously don't understand what you're saying.

as for some of the other comments i've seen....i truly apologize for not inviting everyone earlier. one of the reasons i didnt is because i wasn't sure i wanted to be involved in the game and promoting it this year. in fact, i almost decided not to go because of a big stupid drama thing that happened about a month ago, and recently , i realized nobody was doing all the stuff i usually do (promote/food/etc) and i literally stepped in 2 days ago. the same night i made my first post about this on fba, i also made my first post here.

The first two points are pretty close to my issue here, but mostly this an issue with our own site/people. This isn't a hit on HTG, Casey or the other sites, more a reflection of our own site and it's slip into the who gives a shit mentality. Perhaps I care more then I should.

ok how about....please come, i will do everything in my power to find room for you to play, and if not, dont bring anything, and just enjoy some good food, great beer. and maybe play basketball or vollyball and watch the game. again, the reason this wasn't posted sooner is because nobody was in charge of publicity. its usually my job but i was busy being a crybaby cuz a bunch of people on another board said they didnt like me and sometimes that gets to me.

keep in mind that you didnt invite any of the other boards to your softball game, and please understand that we're not assholes.

It's less about attendance (not sure how this was conveyed outside of my MB comment over the years) and more about our effort here at R/F.net. Also, I agree with your point on the cross invites, which definitely should have been opened up better as well, even if as MB stated it's usually board specific.

Also, the lil site you got here... just about quadruples the posts fba gets per day.

At this point I would consider .net home.

Like the colonies wanting to be independent?

Or having bad dental plans?

After reading ALL of this (it seems as if I started a snowball-down-the-hill topic) here's my take on it.

Jonyrotn and spoon pretty much got all the points across well. It was not a hit on HTG for promoting the game here but more of a 'why bother to do it so late if we can't play'.
That's how I feel anyway. PART of the reason I like going to the r/f game is because my sorry-excuse-for-an-athelete self can get a chance to PLAY in the game. But again, that's just me.

Mikey, I read that it was 4 teams, 2 from NY one from Boston and one from Philly. So why not one from NJ? I am sure there are plenty of people from this board who can make up a decent team just from NJ alone? Why have two NY teams? Why not just one and one from NJ? (again, not a criticism, just a curious observation)

HTG, what I was a little irked about (which jonyrotn and spoon hit on) was that our game gets so little response from people who (supposedly) love being on this board. We have been having games for the last 6-7 years. There was a point where some people had to sit out of game #2 because we had to give others a chance.
NOW? Well if some members didn't bring other non-board members to the games we wouldn't even be able to play one game, much less two. So don't take it as an attack on you either.

I just asked because since one half of the AFRO name IS Ron and Fez it seems that it would have made sense. Being I am only on THIS board, I don't know if it was done or not.

I am hoping that since enough views and opinions were expressed here that we might be able to cross-over into the other board games. I know others, along with myself, have expressed interest in forming an "official" r/f.net team to take on the other boards.
If not, then at least get a chance for them to come to our games as much as us to go to games like the one yesterday.

It would be nice to have a softball game where we could over-run almost any other group who shows up. (like a little league and their anal rententive parents)

But that's just MY $.02

Being as I had to work I hope you all had a blast yesterday. It was perfect for softball (or just about anything else)

First of all, NY teams was a misnomer. It was really NY-NJ teams. I wasn't involved in the planning, but I would assume they wouldn't want to add a fifth team, because the format was three games, with the third game winner crowned the champion. If you guys had signed up to play, you likely would have been put on one of the NY/NJ teams. As I understand it, for reasons that have nothing to do our board that I won't get into, the organizers of the event decided to go with a regional format rather than a board vs board format.

I'm not sure why you're bringing up the promotion of our softball game with Deb. She had nothing to do with it, because it wasn't her event, and she hardly had an obligation to promote it.

What people seem to be missing, is that since Ron and Fez joined XM, we have opened up nearly all of our events to all of the XM 202 "community". Jon can speak better to this, but I believe he made a conscious decision to make our softball game a more intimate event that was really only our members and their family and friends. Whether we will re-visit that decision in the future remains to be seen.

Maybe next year they will add teams... who knows.

however, everyone gets PRETTY burnt after 3 games.

5 wouldn't make very much sense, but if there were enough people for 6... then, if my math is right, I can see that working out.

And softball is the only real RF.Net that we don't want to promote elsewhere. If people for other boards want to come, they are welcome to. If they want to repost it, we don't care. But we don't go out of our way to invite the whole community, but we don't do it to be exclusionary. We just do it because it's ours. Trust me, I have other things planned coming up and the invites will be everywhere.

And any other boards who are running events are more than welcome to post them here. Our policy has generally changed from requiring permission to only requiring permission for "commercial ventures." (i.e. trying to make money off the board or its members)

as i predicted, everyone who wanted to play, got to play if they spoke up. and honestly, what do you are if there are two NY teams or one nj and one ny or whatever. nobody cares about that shit. we had 4 teams because we have about 4 teams worth of people who wanted to play. if demand grows, maybe we'll expand to 5 or 6 teams. Or maybe too many people will be a disaster. Who knows? Its all trial and error.

here's the thing about the AFRO (formerly fba) game. Its low stress. Its silly. Its fun competetive, and much like the board/people that put it on, its low on structure, high on having a good time. To be honest, if people are going to complain and make fusses about the way its run, then perhaps its better for all involved if those people dont come.

And as far as why people dont come to the RF game, i can't answer that. My speculation is that its because RF.net has so many amazing events, that people pick and choose the ones that are most convenient, and because there's always something else coming down the pike, its not a big deal to miss one, whereas the game over on fba was our only real official board sponsored event every year that we asked people to come out for. So pretty much EVERYONE who can come, comes. Lots of RGFers came, WBers came (and we never even posted anything on that board), STIers came (ditto-- no post). Its just a goofy good time event.

i really really really love the rf events more than anyone elses events ive been to. but i think its a shame and a mistake to make people feel obligated to attend one boards event over another, or to make people feel bad about going to one game over another.

All I can say is, we've been beyond happy with the way we've chosen to run our game, and it pays off in spades because attendance is huge (around 100 people every year i'd guess). Why mess with the format? Its great. We'll be doing it again next year, and I promise if I'm involved with it, i'll post it here right away, and you're all welcome to join us, or you can choose not to. Its just a softball game. There shouldn't really be arguments over these things.

When someone has a party, and they invite you, you go or you dont, right?

some people may have gone overboard (i think most of it was aimed at rf.net leadership tho'), but essentially this is what just happened:

Dunno. You could volunteer to help set it up, I guess. Maybe you have already. I don't know, because it's Jon's baby, but that might be a step towards getting what it is you want with the game.

Not a cop out, but sometimes we find ourselves pulled in a lot of directions running this place, so we can't do all the things that it would be nice to do. If someone has a good idea and wants to run with it, and we're on board, feel free to step up.

spoon
06-22-2008, 09:00 PM
Well you guessed it, many have stepped up and are helping in some areas but it's not really our place to "take control" of this thing. I've been coming since the first games, and unlike some others, I'd rather continue our traditional game versus jumping ship.

As for the other game, my only issue is getting a quicker heads up if we are indeed invited. It's not the main issue from my perspective, and it was already covered plenty so I understand the reasons. The more games the better in my mind and I am interested in playing in other games, I just don't want the RonFez.net game to go extinct. We used to have loaded games twice a year with lots of cool people, now it seems people attend based on the exposure and fucking airtime. To me, this is sad and to deny it is to be blind.

I'm denying it to a certain extent. I guess I must be blind.

If it gets airtime, more people know about it, so more people come. If you really think the people who know about it make the conscious decision to play in the softball game because it does or doesn't get show attention, I think you're a bit wrong-headed. People who want to play softball will play, people who don't, won't. Nobody should feel obligated to be there if they don't want to . If your comment was specifically addressed at me, I'm not going to bother to address it.

spoon
06-22-2008, 09:11 PM
For the majority, sure it doesn't fit, but to say it's not an influencing factor these days as opposed to the past for some reason, is simply wrong. And I didn't mention ANYTHING about people having to attend shit, when in fact I'm stating the opposite in that our board does little these days to make our game work so I'm not about to blame them for not noticing or giving a shit. Hell, we ourselves hardly seem to. As for the comment being aimed at any individual, that on them or you in this case. It was a generality, with meaning to those it fits. Does it fit?

mikeyboy
06-22-2008, 09:16 PM
Well you guessed it, many have stepped up and are helping in some areas but it's not really our place to "take control" of this thing.

Furthermore, my intention isn't to be smug, but if you don't feel it's your place to do something about it, why is it your place to complain? Let's keep it in perspective. This is a stupid, free messageboard where the members get together and have a good time. It has become a community, and the strength is in its members. If you have a problem with the way things are run, make a suggestion as to how things can be changed, or suggest a way you can help out, rather than complaining about the way things are. If the softball games aren't popular enough for your liking, promote them yourself or suggest ways to expand the games. You can't make people come if they aren't going to, but you can mae it more enticing. Honestly, I think it's that simple.

Honestly, it's not bc control is an issue. Everytime a few of us wanted to make this better or work it differently we were turned down. Even at times told that dates don't work for them so it doesn't work at all. The same can be said with location and "legal" issues. So yes, we'll take over the rest that is showing up. I'm not trying to be smug either but when people give so-called suggestions they usually get met with the normal defensive attitude. I like the people at our games, including those who run the show, but let's just say it's seemingly is too much work for them year after year and I've constantly tried to add my voice and work to the effort only to be denied. Now we're to the point where the games are barely occurring year after year once let alone twice.

To me, this is sad and to deny it is to be blind.

you really think people attended because they wanted to be discussed on air? i really dont see that. maybe its that when R&F talk about something, people it gets in peoples head and R&F make it sound like more fun. or maybe its that when you know its going to be a dave vs earl component, it sounds like something you dont want to miss. i mean, we're all here because we love r&f, i dont think it makes you an asshole to want to be at the events that they talk about.

btw, wb softball game is coming up in july. if your'e interested, check out their board, i dont know details.

This year, I had something going on during the rf game, so I went to the this one. It's as simple as that.

I do agree w/ Spoon though, that we could ramp up our softball game, as it's dropped way down in attendance since the first year. I'd suggest a more centralized location, with more promotion earlier on.

Earl and Dave met in the finals.

And with Earl's team down several runs and with Earl talking with said ump (ME) ' That I just want to get up again in a big spot.'

And Earl gets his chance in the bottom of the 6th of 7 innings.

Bases FULL of Yankees, 2 outs, and Earl hits

That's been one of the biggest pushes indeed, it can't get any more "central" then central park (LI, NJ, NY and more). We all find ways to hit the bar nights, it really shouldn't be tough to get in for this, as this is the normal issue I hear.

And as Missy mentioned, the game just keeps getting the back burner and little work, so much that we didn't even have fucking bases this year. And if not for a few guys stepping up, we wouldn't have had players, chairs and more. By now one would think we should have at least a supply that goes beyond balls and a notebook. Even if it's deemed that money from the site shouldn't be used, I'm sure the regs would put in to have some bases on hand (in case) and other needed materials. However, the biggest issue comes in the flexibility in where we play, when we play and how the site internally works to help the game. Think about it, the game thread wasn't even a sticky....have you seen what gets deemed worthy of a sticky?

It's to the point where I truly believe it's a whatever event and nothing I've seen shows me anything different.

And no offense Jon you know I consider you a friend, but you only like it bc it's "convenient" to you, not the board. I'm not saying it wouldn't and or couldn't work, but let's be honest and realize what's been the real motivating factors in almost all the decisions on this event over the last few years. To my eyes, it's been whatever is easier in terms of effort or driving distance, with the latter sometimes sacrificed if someone was willing to do the work with little assistance (eg. Doogie and Justice....hell even TooCute and Kaga way back). I'd love to have the first NYC game in central park, but you'd think it's impossible.

Sailor, how do we cope with such limitations for the bar 9 events and other city functions. It's a once or twice a year type event, and car pooling is always the nature of our games in the past.

And I'm not saying it HAS to be NYC, but it would be pretty cool and help revive our dying games.

My thoughts are that late August is best (weather and timing) and 08/23 seems perfectly placed in front of Labor Day holiday. The 16th seems ok too, but the first two weeks of August is too hot and close. In my mind weekends after Labor Day are also fine but this is surely something we'd need to put out there to the rest of the board. You and Jeff were surely missed time around, hope to see u guys soon where your car doesn't get smashed!

And just so it's out there, I heard rumblings to a second game being lined up by Justice for these times, perhaps not official, not sure. However, I'm sure everyone could get together and work out the dates and logistics as long as everyone here is cool with it. Also, what's this other "in the works" idea you have Jon that I've heard whispers of? This is the problem with us regs making moves as it always seems not to fit or can't be done.

It's simply not as easy as us taking charge, it has to be worked out with the normal people who put this together vs two opposing forces. It just seems some care more than others.

Jesus Mikey, you ever think I'm speaking in generalities in an effort NOT to name names. I think I've been respectful and have the right intentions, but when efforts are shot down year after year about fields, locations, ideas and more, YES opposing forces is a good descriptive term. Hit me on AIM or PM, bc I'm not going to make this a fight in public to please you. Again, if it doesn't fit for you, perhaps it isn't aimed at you. Hell, this isn't supposed to be an attempt to cause trouble, in fact, it's the opposite. The past is only mentioned bc we need to learn from it and work together for the interest of the board, game and the people involved versus individuals. Which sadly, no matter how many times you come back at me with your lawyer tactics, is simply the case.

So I ask you Mikey, are you helping make this a more welcoming, better, more fun game at a great location, or are you too busy going on the defensive?

Um, neither, I guess...

I don't even know why I've been pulled into this. I'm not involved in planning the logistics of softball...ever. This has always been Jon's event because he's a lot more into softball than I am. I don't even play. I also have nothing to do with the alleged vetoing of ideas or turning down offers to help. Am I obligated to jump into the planning of this event just because I'm an admin of this site? Of course not. All of the staff does a lot of work to on many different aspects of this place in order to keep it running. Also we don't get paid. My focus has been on other aspects of the site and other events. I'm sure you'll say that I'm only interested in those aspects and events that get me exposure. Right. Whatever. I'm just bothered that I'm expected to jump through hoops just because you want me to. Regardless, I've been doing some kind of monkey dance looking into fields in NYC this afternoon.

This "lawyer tactics" thing is bullshit. All I've done is tried to look into the problems and reacted when someone makes it about me. Calling "lawyer tacticts" is just an easy way to deflect responding to something directly.

I've said it before -- if you think something needs to be improved, make a suggestion or offer to help rather than just bitching that we're not doing enough. I've talked to Jon, and he says that offers to help are accepted and are often an integral part of the event. What is not cool is being expected to snap to attention because someone wants us to do something differently. It's one thing to offer suggestions and feedback (which we do consider), but that type of entitlement is another thing completely.

Anyway...

This is what I've seen so far in this thread:

we need a better location: we're looking into Manhattan

We need more lead time: we had 2 months. If we get a Manhattan field, we'll likely have even more because we'll need to do it so far in advance

We need better organization: I understand we didn't have bases last time. Okay. Maybe this is where the members can step up. Do we need a softball committee? I won't speak for Jon, but if a group of members wants to take the initiative to make sure that our bases are covered (pun not intended), I wouldn't have a problem with that.

We need better promotion: This is where we reach the crossroards. Better promotion means off-board promotion (i.e. seeing if the show will plug it, promoting on other boards, considering board vs. board games), because we nearly saturated board promotion. Sure, it was stated that the softball threads weren't sticky, but that's minor because the threads were active, and it was most likely an oversight anwyay. Doing off-board promotion means conscoously going against the decision to make our games primarily board-only events. I haven't been involved in softball that much, so it certainly isn't my decision to make. It probably should be up for debate though.

Anything else? Seriously. If anyone else has any suggestions as to how we can improve our games, we are all ears.

We could "script" the games like wrestling. Making it Softball sports entertainment.

7th inning stretch and have prizes.

If a team scores 20 runs, free corndogs for everyone. ("Saw that watching semi-pro").

I like the more intimate atmosphere of the rf.net games. Sure it's a small group but it's just a bunch of peeps hanging out playing softball, drinking and eating. It may not be the "BIG" event that some people would like it to be but I like it.

I think Jon and Justice and whoever else does it, does a good job. It takes alot of work and effort. They may not have had the bases but Justice pulled a whole picnic table set and other stuff from his car this year setting stuff up because the sandlot kids and their folks hogged up the spot where they usually have the softball game.

So it's about "entitlement" huh? Wow, I've been here for just as long as you and that has NEVER been the case in any way. And by tactics it's obvious you kept throwing it back on me rather then actually taking me up on the offer to hear me out in private on AIM or PM. I guess that's simply another case of entitlement I throw around. You said it yourself MB, you haven't been involved in this event much if at all, so why are YOU taking this so personally versus stepping in to help or stating it's not your baby. I can't help it if you feel the need to respond to things I've CONSTANTLY stated aren't aimed at one particular person, but rather, issues tackled with generalities.

I've deflected nothing Mike, nothing. If anything, I've been guilty of keeping this a general discussion without throwing out specifics and attacking any past specific actions or lack there of. To state I'm just bitching is to either be misled or simply wrong. I think some egos need to be checked before anything good can come from this. Nobody, nobody thinks you should have to jump through hoops for us or anyone for that matter. Just let it be known that we're wasting the efforts of a lot of good people who want and have tried to help. And the rest of the shit the board does is usually top shelf, hence the reason we think this event needs work....it's that simple.

Overall, if you're on board for making this a better event then I feel something was accomplished already, as you have done good jobs with events in the past. The setup of making this a board (RF.net) specific event is fine, that's not the issue. It's more an issue with making it better from within, no expansion. It's a close knit group of people who attend this thing, and it'd be nice to involve a lot of people who surely would like to put an effort into making it even better and expanding it from within, along with outside people which have always been welcome.

wow.
this has gotten serious.
seems to be the norm around here lately.

first, i don't pay any mind to the FBA game because it is for them, and that is just fine.
Last year i asked Sgt Magoo a few days before if he could add me to a team and was promptly advised that there was no room for me. So be it.

I enjoy the .net games, because many of the players are the same people who have been coming out since 2002. There is a bond there that transcends anything involving radio promotion, or even inter-webs mingling. We ALL get to play and have a fantastic time doing so.
To be honest, I miss the crowds that used to come to the .net games. Even producers like Staples would favor our game and .netters would flock ... even to Long Island to play a few rounds of softball with their buddays.

But now there are multiple boards... and people have moved on and found stronger bonds elsewhere. It's human nature, really. Especially in a community such as this. Always growing, ever-increasing the show's fan base. Who would complain about that?! Not I.

The only issue I would take with the FBA game being on our site this year is that it was posted just 3 days prior to the game itself. At that point.... why bother? Most of us have plans... and the few who do go onto FBA or RFG would already know about the game.
The gesture, while well intentioned, did seem a bit backhanded. That's all.

Sure, our RF.net game is in dire need of some CPR.... and I would be more than happy to volunteer for a spot on that committee. But I don't think finger pointing is the best way to go about it.
I am all about fresh starts these days.... and the Softball game is no exception.

Feel free to PM or email me.... I would love, love, LOVE to have another softball game this year. Even one that is for ALL of the boards... late summer..... random teams.... just crazy buddays getting together and playing ball. Late August? Bring it on. Let's do this.

It does seem to be the case, because everytime anyone gives feedback that isn't five star, the elite come out pick fights/change the discussion.

See Gvac for more examples.

Yah, bc it's a fucking line deb right. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with the way he kept trying to put a different spin on things and put me on the defense when he himself stated he didn't have much knowledge of the subject. Sure, this discussion wasn't about you, but God damn your smug attitude is about as tiresome as the night you thought you controlled every fucking seat at the strip club event. It's like you just want to keep dropping truly passive aggressive bullshit left and right. Now hurry and go get that beer.

Looks like I got hit with the I'm more important smug attitude approach, forgive me for laughing...aahahahahahahahahahaha.

oh for goodness sake, we were seated at ONE TABLE, (not every seat in the place), like any normal person going into a club, and we had a tab going. let it go.

if i was being passive aggressive, i apologize. i had intended to be more direct. but the lawyer tactics thing is bullshit. he answered you. thats all. no tactics. and that same line has been used on me by one or two people, so i feel for mikeyboy having to put up with it.

i got involved here initially because when you dont mention names, you put everyone who has any relation to the events being discussed on the defensive...not because they're guilty, but because they are the people involved.

i dont get the beer comment though. whats that about?

The only issue I would take with the FBA game being on our site this year is that it was posted just 3 days prior to the game itself. At that point.... why bother? Most of us have plans... and the few who do go onto FBA or RFG would already know about the game. The gesture, while well intentioned, did seem a bit backhanded. That's all.

:)

the reason why bother is because there are lots of people who dont have plans or might change their plans to go. i always figure better late than never. even if only one person accepts. also, since ron and fez brought it up on the show, i figured a few people might take interest based on that, and thought the information should be out there should people take an interest in attending. im sure there are other people who were happy to be invited, and infact, i know it to be the case because a few showed up.

and this is great .... i heard it was a fantastic time!
but in the future, maybe have it posted earlier so that those of us who are interested in attending have enough notice.

and with regards to my own experiences, being denied a spot on a team, maybe the earlier posting will allow those of us who are softball players to be included in more than just the other festivities. And that may sway some of us to attend... further increasing the board unity we all strive for.

The beer comment came from this, "aw man mikey i am gonna buy you a beer next time i see you", nothing more.

As for the rest, quite simply he didn't aswer me. Unless you consider questions answers, then yes, ur right. Overall this has gotten out of hand bc I only had good intentions for bringing this topic up. However, it seems one can't have any ideas or issues with anything or that said person gets attacked and tagged a complainer. Funny thing is, I was putting shit out there for discussion, not firing questions at anyone specifically. Yet some seemingly have found a need to get defensive.

i agree with your intentions and you may not have realized that you put some people on the defensive, but go back and take a re-read of some of the earlier posts, and try to see how you would have read them if you were me or MB. if those posts had said, hey guys, they seem to have a huge event here, lets see if we can make our game better, none of this would have happened. or maybe if that issue had been brought up in its own thread it wouldnt have put anyone on the defensive. i dunno. i apologize for being snarky. its just like i said, i've been attacked for that same thing, (lawyer tactics) and it sucks.

I wanted people to start trashing HTG again.

Just kidding.
I figured I'd remind everyone that tomorrow (Saturday, 7/12) is the Wackbag Softball game at Eisenhower Park on Long Island. It's open to all. I'm attending and I think Friday is, as well, so there's a bit of .Net representin'.

Details here:

i just mentioned it in passing earlier in the thread because i know some of us are very much into playing softball, and i knew if someone was truly interested that they could go to the other board and look up the details. that's all.

the game was a great time.... and because of them, my batting avg. is getting even better! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

however, i also now have a pretty nasty abrasion on my right shin from dive-flailing for a ball that Lax hit to my right. ouchies!
